I don't really know why...It's just interesting I guess, and for some reason I find the idea of two guys together really cute. I think the same about girls too though. I actually went to a meeting thing about yaoi at Sakura con. They went through the reasons girls are attracted to it.

One of the possible reasons I found interesting: In a lot of yaoi, at least one of the boys are very feminine. Girls like it because they can put themselves in the girly boy's position. And with a boyXboy relationship there is no pregnancy, all you have to worry about is the love (and other life problems of course). xD

That's just one of many reasons they went over. x)

I have to raise an eyebrow to the girly guys statement there. Personaly, I normaly see myself as the one on the otbher side of that...But then again I'm a guy..... As far as eyecandy goes, semi girly guys are nice, but I like my men with balls, if you know what I mean? Not hairy chest and all, but I do like a little more then a stick figure with long hair....

The panel thing I was at was for girls mainly it seemed. I can't remember much of anything about why guys like it.
But again, that was just one reason and doesn't apply to all people.
If you ever go to Sakura con in Seattle I suggest stopping by the yaoi panel There were two I remember, the later one was actually a discussion). It's fun discussing it. xD The person who leads it does have pretty big opinions (Then again she also spends large amounts of time studying it). She won't make you feel bad for stating your own thoughts though. =)

I may be running the Yaoi panel at the next Anime Detour in St. Paul MN next year. I'm just try to figure out how to run it....More fun or more informative....

I Like yaoi and enjoy roleplaying and stuff. But sometimes it just depends on the pairing. There's good ones and bad ones. Ya' know. I also don't like it when people are all mean about people liking yaoi. I mean everyone has there opinion and mine is that yaoi is fun. My brother however calls me a Fag and always teases me about it. Yaoi is just like any other love story, just between two boys not a boy and a girl. People have different sexual preferences. It's just how we are born.

I don't really know why I love it....maybe because the thought of me having sex (I'm female) icks me out (with a guy....no interest in females)...so yaoi is a good rp alternative to that : D

I don't mind the genre of anime. Honestly, I've read yaoi books before and they where pretty good, similar to yuri.
How ever the fanbase, and the fact that they pair two straight males together pisses me off. Especially if both the guys have girlfriends and are clearly straight, the fanbase is all "THEYRE SO GAY LETS PAIR THEM UP TOGETHER"
As a writer, and an ex-online-comic artist, that kind of thing would offend and piss me off. It's like you're not even respecting the main story line or the characters. Now, I don't mind shipping or anything, but people who crack-ship things that will never happen [Like SasukexNaruto. Seriously?] just annoy me. [INB4; Every hetalia fan ever.]

Let me first say that I am in no way against homosexual love/sexual relations/pairings/whatever, and am in fact pansexual myself.

That being said, I find the thought of reading or wanting to write a story specifically based on nothing but sexual orientation silly. Maybe it's just a personal opinion, but I like pairings based on character's personalities. Who cares whats in their pants? I have favorite pairings that are strait. I have favorite pairings involving homosexual males. I have favorite pairings that consist of lesbians. I don't put any above the other, because judging something based solely on its gender doesn't really tell you anything about the people themselves.

Of course, this argument only applies to stories, anime, roleplays, or whatever that contain a plot. If you're just reading or writing something to get your rocks off then I suppose the genders do play an important part of what would appeal to you.

You bring up a good point. All too often though I'll see people who only enjoy certain anime or media because of the sexuality of the characters. I guess it's become something of a pet peeve for me. I don't really buy into the whole yuri or yaoi thing as a genre. I generally just call stuff by what the plot's mostly made up of, like romance, fantasy, horror, ect. If a series happens to contain gay connotations, wonderful, but I don't feel that it needs to be mentioned as an actual genre. I feel that it would be admitting that gay relationships are different than strait ones, which I don't believe is true.

*Must stare* Of all possible Yaoi based relationships out of Naruto, Sasu x Naru is the second most likely as far as the real storyline goes, second only to Gaa x Naru...... Not wanting to start a fight, but as far as fan fantasies go, Sasu x Naru is one of te likely possible ones.

I actually think I'd be able to see Naruto with Sasuke before Gaara. I'm a fan of the series myself, though I think I'm behind like five chapters in the manga. But yes. Very likely pairing. *nods*

Though Sasuke's general hatred of everything and everyone tends to get in the way of him getting any.

The same thing happened to me. I read Jaqueline Carey's novel Santa Olivia, in which the main heroine ended up falling in love with a female. It was never mentioned anywhere in the plot description, and I found it a pleasant surprise. The two characters were really cute together.

I enjoy reading a good male/male romance since it shows the more passionate side of guys towards other guys. I mean society has stereotyped them into being rough tough men that like sports and if you read poetry or something you're a total wimp. I also hate saying how society treats homosexual people it's just not right. We've got our rights why not let us have them?

I don't care much for the sex parts in the older Yaoi but I do like the idea of guy romance it's quite adorable.

First of all no one was really attacking you and don't assume just because you hate it everyone's going to jump on you about it. If you hate it you hate it. There's ALWAYS going to be fanfictions of male characters in existence having homosexual relations. Don't read it if you don't like it that's just the point people are getting across. Honestly you shouldn't get offended when people take characters of the same gender and place them together you weren't the one who created them. Even if they weren't created for the fantasy of male on male everyone has the right in their love of fandom to do it. Point is you don't like it don't read. This is the internet and what happens on here you can't prevent from spreading.

I love it, and more than in the normal fangirl sense. At least I'd like to think that, it's often the only thing I RP, not due to only the fact that the idea of two men in a relationship is what turns my fancy. But even as a female, I cannot roleplay a female character because I relate more to the male gender than the female. It's more a way to live what I believe I should by via imagination when I cannot in real life.

Doesn't seem to fangirlish to me. In my opinion I think if it makes you feel comfortable for not only with who you are but also with a gender you can associate with it makes understanding things a lot easier. My boyfriend god bless his sweet soul identifies himself as being in between genders. So I can see where you are coming from with this.
