Labryinth of Rocks and Rainbows

name: Deo (means godlike)
gender: female
species: human
age: 17
powers: she was cursed at birth because her parents pissed off a witch. Since then, she started to take on plant attributes (specifically the flowering dogwood tree). She doesn't have full control of her 'power' so it tends to come out when she least needs it. ie: flowers blooming in her hair during dinner or roots growing from her fingertips while horse ridding. A creative mind could use this power for good or hurt, even battle...or you can be like Deo and deny it's existence.
appearance: Short (about Wingsy's height) and willowy with a child-like face. very pale skin. tends to flower in white and occasionally pink flowers.
hair- light brown sandy color and wavy with a few strands of white. Some rather tight curls at the ends of her hair. about mid back in length.
eyes: large and dark green. very long black eyelashes with plenty of makeup to make them stand out even more.
personality: spoiled rich brat and rebellious teenager

name:Eileanora (goes simply by Eilea) (this is Irish means foreign; the other)
gender: female
species: half water mage, half mermaid
age: 23
powers: As a mermaid she is able to breath under water and lives among the mermaid clan of her mother. Her clan is a well known clan of sirens, they are both prized and feared by seafarers. Eilea has been hunted as a prize before before and is wary of humans. Her father was a water mage yet it seems the only power she has inherited from him is an ability to shift between a human and a mermaid form allowing her to walk on land, though she prefers the sea. She has also once managed to control water to her bidding and create a whirlpool sinking the ship of the men who tried to capture her. She has never done so again. This happened when she was 19
appearance: Her hair is a long flowing (extremely wavy) turquoise with darker teal highlights. Her tail and eyes are a deep turquoise that match each other perfectly though speckled along her scales are light turquoise scales as well as some golden ones that glint in the sun. all her scales have a golden outline. Her fins at the end of her tail and on her back are the light turquoise of her hair. Her skin is a pale white. Around the outer corner of her eyes and shoulders (they fan across her shoulder blades and down her spin to where her tail starts) she has "tattoos" (more of markings that mark her as a mermaid even in her human form) that look like the outlines of scales that are all of the same dark teal as the highlights in her hair.
clothes: as a mermaid she wears the typical blue flowing clother of her people her stomach is bare as is much of her back as the back of the shirt is mostly just straps. She wears a necklace of shells as well.
as a human: She wears basically the same shirt and incorporates a pair of loose fitting blue pants of the same material that flow around her like water. She prefers not to wear shoes but if she must she wears a pair of snake skin moccasins that are tied of the same color of blue.

name: Saul (means asked for, prayed for)
gender: male
species: full Selkie (I decided not to mix him because, after research, the descendants of Selkies lost the ability to shift)
age: 21
powers: Similarly to Eilea, male Selkies have been known to cause storms that sink entire ships. Saul has been known to participate quite happily in this practice, up to the point that he has almost created entire hurricanes out of the sea. Also, his natural form is an antarctic fur seal with deep brown eyes, and he wears this form like a skin. Like all of the legends, he is only allowed to shed his skin on the harvest moons; then, he can peel off his seal skin like a layer and reveal a human body underneath. He can stay human as long as he wants, but, once he returns to his seal form, he can't change back until the harvest moon. His human form in extremely captivating to the human women. Also, he's been known to participate in light water bending in both forms.
appearance: As a SEAL he is a furry, captivating creature with fur that is dark brown and a little long. His eyes are a deep brown, and he is a muscular seal with long fins and a thick tail. There is a scar over one of his shoulders that starts at the top and goes across diagonally; as a seal, it shows up as a dark brown line of raised skin. When he's in human form, he is a very handsome man. His hair is a deep brown similar to his seal fur with deep brown eyes and chiseled features. Generally, he wears only a pair of shorts and leaves his chest bare as often as he can, as he finds clothes to be constricting. When he sheds his seal form he's wearing the shorts, a black in color that are lightweight and not too thick. His human chest has a few vague markings on it, swirling tattoos of dark black that mean things in his native tongue. Also, his scar is still there across his right shoulder, but it looks like a line or raised red skin instead.

Name: Porphyra (Greek for “Purple Dye”) **Now Porphyro
Gender: Female **Now male, for equalization purposes
Species: Sidhe
Age: 83
Eyes: Lavender

**The rest should be the same, except "she" is changed to "he". (Except where noted by **)

Personality: He believes that rocks have more sense than people, so people exist solely for his amusement.

Powers: Earth and Compelling. He can only compel people who are lost in thought, daydreaming, or some other activity that their attention is certainly not on earth. So he pretty much only uses that to get people angry, then calls the earth to shift so they trip and he can escape, laughing. He has been told that he could focus his powers to do so much more, but he really never had any interest in anything but pranks. His place was to tend an herb garden for a healer, so he had lots of time to come up with things as he felt the earth for the proper nutrients and suchlike required for good gardening. When he wasn't pranking someone, he was always with his plants and freshly turned earth, or perhaps in the caves. Now he is a wanderer, tired of where he grew up, wanting to "meet new rocks", as he told his kin. He doesn't like staying in one place for long.
He can draw powers from gemstones.

Appearance: To his delight, his skin and hair color allow him to pass for a human. (You can only prank Sidhe a little before they figure out your tricks. Humans, however...) His skin is a light pinkish, only a few shades lighter than a typical white-skinned human. His hair is a light sandy brown, and he always wears an sapphire-blue bandana to hide his ears.
**Changed bandana to blue because purple is weird on a guy!

Clothes: Depends on where he is, though usually earthy colors with occasional gemstone colors (necklace, bracelet, ankle bracelet, something like that).
**He doesn't wear earrings.

Stone: Amethyst

(squeaky i actually know that word. Porphyra is a character in something.... can't remember what though.)

Eilea flicked her tail behind her slowly as she gliding silent near the surface of the ocean, letting the sunlight poor unto her scales and back warming her body. She moved closer to the surface her tail fin breaking the surface and then moved back lower into the water turning over and looking up at the sun, a smile playing across her rose lips. She loved just enjoying a swim like this free from her school mates for a few moments or hours. It did her good, calmed her down. However, it was on a journey like this that four years ago she had been captured, without the help of her sister's voices she'd been unable to entrance the entire ship. It was only through sheer luck she was even still alive and not some whole. Eilea didn't take too many of these journeys often but she had just argued with her mother, and she needed to get away. She kinda swam just enjoying the surface of the water an almost meeting of her two worlds that she could never reconcile. And as she smiled up at the sun she floated to the surface and starting singing. Her words were indistinguishable to many being part of an ancient language long lost to any but her people but the song was so beautiful and so heartaching that any man who was near would her it and instantly be drawn to her, and to a most unfortunate death if she happened to ensnare a human on her own. Eilea loved to toy with humans when she could and show herself as a true siren, and not a shame as some of her sister's called her for her mixed blood. She knew she wasn't as powerful as they were and alone, she couldn't bring a whole ship to it's doom, but a small craft or a single human? Most certainly, and so she sang hoping to entrap and show her strength as a siren.

(okay so kat and i agree saul and eilea should probably meet first... and then we move from there. though porphyra and deo could meet on land and then we have the two groups meet.)

(Variants of the name Porphyra are everywhere, in all sorts of literature and mythology - even games!)

Porphyra had decided to spend some time on the beach, as a single handful of sand contained an endless amount of stories and different stone fragments, if one knows how to look. She had recently been in the caves for quite some time, so the bright sunlight reflecting off of the sand made her squint. Her skin was somewhat paler than normal, and she was thin from living off of whatever was growing or living in the caves, so she figured the beach was the place to be. Digging for clams was stupidly easy for an earth mage, so she had a good source of food, and the sun would bring her skin back to a more "natural" color, in human terms. In her travels, she was never afraid to park in any dark hole she found for the night, so at the beach she simply buried herself in the sand until it was only her nose poking out (far out of reach of that sneaky tide).
Today, she was sitting on a beach rock in the middle of nowhere, feeling her way out into the earth underneath the ocean. Though the water seemed smooth and it seemed to be a natural harbor, the rocks were treacherous underneath , and there were stories upon stories of ships meeting their doom. She wondered if there were any precious gems within the wreckage, but she couldn't sense them if they were surrounded by the unpetrified wood of sunken ships or chests.

She scowled to herself. She didn't want to go swimming unless she was sure there was something good out there, but there was always that What if? that never went away if she didn't investigate.

raesilver42 08-04-2011 02:24 AM

(Sorry for taking so long to post. I'd kind of like to establish now that we keep a posting order. I fear getting left behind, as often happens with me and group rps. I've been at the beach, playing in the waves.)

The harvest moon was that night, and all of the male Selkies could feel it in their blood. Normally, pups lived with their mother's group until they reached a certain age. Pups were given pretty easy leave up until they were adult age; they spent their day in play and slight fighting, all to learn how to get along in life. Once a Selkie male reached twenty years of age, he was thrown out by the Lord of the group. The Lord of Saul's pack had been a thick, tough old male that had ruled for ages. Per custom, once he got old enough, he gave Saul the option of leaving the pack peacefully or fighting him for his title and his harem. Saul, being a stubborn and prideful male, decided for the latter. He and the Lord settled ontop of rocks and showed off their powers; Saul tried to show off the biggest storm that he could create. It was an impressive feat, but the Lord made an even bigger storm and swept away an entire fleet. His punishment for his pride was and always would be the scar across his right shoulder blade.

Saul had been spending his days with a pack of other male Selkies, but the males were getting restless with thru harvest moon so close. They would be able to go ashore then; if they staid together, the Selkies could probably destroy a town with their habits. So, also because they were all aggressive and angry, the pack split up for the duration of the moon. Saul had headed North. He had a thick pelt of brown fur as he was from the cooler waters, but he liked to be in the warmer waters. Plus, because he was practically jumping out of his skin, Saul surged through the water like something was chasing him. Even if he was ready to be human, he didn't want to do so to party with human females. He just...wanted to walk for a little while. His muscles rippled as he lunged over the waters and jumped in and out of the sea. Freedom from their aggression and snarls and....shaking his head, he surges up against the ocean, cresting a wave, and...pauses with his head cocking a little.

A song...a beautiful song. They didn't have sirens from where he was from, and Saul forgot his journey for a beach somewhere. Instead, his mind focused soley on the words, he changed direction and went straight towards the creature who was suddenly beautiful and more enchanting than anything else. Flicking his tail, he swam like a wild creature for her. He swam right up to her and curled over her tail, giving little seal barks. He shifted his body in a blink of an eye and brushed by her again, just wanting to be close to her.

<In order to have a more balanced gender ratio, Porphyra has become Porphyro. Same look, same backstory, just that she is now a he. No earrings though. And perhaps less firecracker-y. We will see.>

Kat Dakuu 08-04-2011 03:10 AM

Deo whirled around suddenly and yelled at the nearest attendant. "I WILL go ridding! You can't make me stay cooped up here all day!" The attendant cringed at the the child as if she were the most feared kind of monster.

"Y-yes Miss Deo!" he muttered back. They never stood up to her. She was a member of the royal line, but only a niece of the queen. There were plenty of others closer to the throne than her, but it didn't stop her from being spoiled an difficult.

She was dressed in horse riding clothes in deep blue and white. The quality of the color only proclaimed how expensive it was, being made of the highest quality of fabric. There was no stopping the whirlwind that she was. Within minutes, she was in the stables, being helped onto her horse who was a wonderful chestnut colored mare. She led the way, three attendants following behind her (because they weren't about to let Deo out of their sight so she could create more havok). Without hesitation, the young Deo headed towards the beach not far from her castle.

Wings of Writing 08-04-2011 03:56 AM

Eilea sung for awhile a longer before she felt fur brush up against her scales she turned, still singing, to look at the creature and smiled when she saw the seal that was barking happily at her. Still smiling, she stopped singing and greeted the creature, "Well hello there," she said, "You weren't my target by you are a beautiful boy aren't you." She began humming softly to keep the seal partly under her control as she reached out to pet his head softly, before she ending her song completely. "It was nice to meet you, but I do not harm those of the sea. Just the humans who would try to use me or kill me as a trophy. You may go own your way little friend." Eilea tilted her head to the side and looked into the seal's eyes for a moment, he seemed to have a rather intelligent look about him, far more intelligent than your average seal. "Unless you would like to stay of course?" she doubted it though, creatures broke her spell so quickly after she had stopped singing. She blamed her mixed heritage as her sisters could control simple-minded animals for hours on end with just a snippet of song.

SqueakyMachine 08-04-2011 04:09 AM

Porphyro put his hand flat against the rock and took a deep breath, feeling the stone. Hoofbeats, from four horses carrying burdens, coming this way. He shook his head. Why was observing the earth so far below manipulating it in his fellows' eyes? He much preferred to see things as they were and only change something slightly. It was much easier to trap people that way.

He rose from his sitting position and found a shelter in the black rocks from which he could observe the beach without being seen while he planned his attack. Horses were a problem though. He didn't want to hurt the animals at all, nor did he want to hurt their riders severely, but the earth had a way of showing its power. It never did anything halfway, and so the magic was hard to control. He didn't exactly want to erupt a volcano on top of them, so he pondered what else he could do. Spook the horses? Maybe.

He reached out to some very dry, crystally sand and extended a small amount of control to make it move slightly. It squeaked as the hard grains of stone slid against one another.

Porphyro grinned to himself. A little of that noise to scare the riders, and a small suggestion to the horses to veer towards the sea. Maybe they would start believing in the myths so often told about how sirens have been sighted on this beach!

He laughed to himself. Sirens. What nonsense! Probably just Sidhe like himself messing with their emotions. He was sure he was perfectly safe, but it was fun to propagate the legends.

Kat Dakuu 08-04-2011 04:26 AM

When Deo reached the beach, she urged her horse into a fast run, outpacing her attendants. They yelled at her and raced to catch up and she just laughed. She was still ahead when she suddenly heard a strange noise. It was a bit squeaky and high pitched, like nothing she ever heard before. Her mare's ears swiveled madly to pinpoint the noise as her eyes went wide. Suddenly, the horse veered off course, heading to the ocean.

"Woah! Stop!!" Deo yelped, trying to rein her in, but the mare wasn't listening. Deo fought with the reins, only driving her mount into wildness. The attendant's horses' were acting similarly, though they remained fastly in their saddles....unlike Deo. Her horse shook her head, pulled the rein's from Deo's hands. The girl lost her balance and tumbled backwards, landing with a shriek on her butt.

SqueakyMachine 08-04-2011 04:35 AM

Porphyro couldn't help a deep, hearty laugh. Oh humans. They amazed him every day with their clumsiness and stupidity.

But then he was quiet, as he couldn't outrun a horse and there were no caves nearby for him to hide in. They looked royal; who knows what they would do if they found him. Though the thought did strike him that dungeons were usually made out of stone. Maybe, for laughs, someday he would get himself thrown in one. But the chains and death penalties weren't quite as appealing, so he stayed hidden, watching through a small gap in between the rocks.

raesilver42 08-04-2011 06:31 PM

Her song had driven away all of the aggression that had been pouring off of his muscles like a bad feeling; at the moment, he just wanted to be petted and closer to her song. Eilea was lucky that he wasn't like the other male Selkies in the world; all her song made him want to do was be closer to her than he had been before. Maybe that was because Saul had always been a gentlemanly Selkie despite his pride and aggression. When she stopped singing for a few moments, Saul paused and was almost broken from the spell; he became aware of the swell of the waves beneath him and the warmer waters plucking at his fur. For a second, he was almost free...then she began to hum again. It reminded him of the songs his mother would hum when he was younger; instantly, even with just her humming, he was transfixed by her again. As she sang, she moved her hand to pet him...normally, the male would have dodged away because it was demeaning to be petted. But the male let her. As she spoke, he began to come out of the spell like rising from the bottom of a murky lake. A wave straight to the face accelerated the release of the magic. As soon as he could partially think straight again, he realized that he had been completely at her mercy. His fur smelled so different now, a mixture of his cooler scent and her fishy one. He didn't understand because he had never seen a creature like her before. Of course, his people had legends about mermaids....in the cold south though, he had never seen one. His fur was ruffled from how she had pet it. Instantly, he flicked his tail in annoyance. How could he be so charmed by a humanfish? As she told him he could leave if he wanted or stay, the darker eyes narrowed in suspicion. Had she decided to eat him? Was he going to swim straight into her mouth if she asked him too? What if she'd poisoned him? He couldn't remember, though he did his best to try, the last few minutes. Barking sharply, the seal twisted in the water so he was on his side and smacked his tail against the surface, a sign of displeasure. He wasn't sure if she spoke Selkie or not; if she did, she might make a friend of the annoyed male. If not, he would leave in his annoyance of being charmed into being friendly with her. He bore her scent despite his protests.

Wings of Writing 08-05-2011 08:05 AM

Eilea looked at the seal and tilted her head farther to the side, he was free of her spell now that was for sure and not happy one bit. She chuckled, at his brief display of aggression. "I'm sorry." she said, "I meant no offense." she flipped her tail back and forth as she looked at the seal. Again she noticed his intelligent eyes, able to see the anger in them, and noticing how very sentient they seemed. She smirked at him and then in a soft voice asked, "Selkie?" She had heard myths and rumours from her sisters of a race of seal and humans mixed called the selkie. She knew that some lived around her but had never encountered one herself though she knew many of her sisters had. If this was a selkie, Eilea prepared to start singing again, she had heard their males could be rather aggressive.

Kat Dakuu 08-08-2011 07:44 PM

After the horses, one riderless, reached the water's edge, they returned to their right state of mind. The attendants quickly rode back to Deo, aware that she would be really upset. By this time, the girl was on her feet again, her face completely red. Of course, they just assumed it was because of anger, but she was also a bit embarrassed.

"What did that?!" Deo yelped. No one had an answer. "I DEMAND you find out!!!!" she screeched. One of the attendants had to resist the urge to cover his ears. They quickly moved away thought they doubted they would find anything amidst the rocks and sand.

Deo started to pace back and forth rather quickly, her arms crossed. Unknown to her, a few white flowers had started to fall. They instantly wilted the second they hit the ground, Deo's annoyance making it hard for them to flourish.

SqueakyMachine 08-09-2011 01:14 AM

Porphyro couldn't help it; he stood up, quietly but in plain sight, and waited to see how long before she noticed. She was definitely spoiled, and probably unused to being pranked. The best kind, he thought! Usually, that type was sheltered and it took effort to reach them, but this girl was cake.

"You seem to have dandruff," he commented, deciding not to wait to be noticed.

Kat Dakuu 08-09-2011 02:46 AM

Deo whirled around the second she heard a voice. Her attendants were too busy scouring the beach as she'd ordered them and didn't notice Porphyro. how awfully ironic she thought to herself.

"Dandruff?! How dare you! Do you even know who I--" Deo trailed off in her little tirade as a flower sprung up in her hair and flopped down into her face. "AHH?!" She grabbed the offending flower and ripped it out, despite the pain it caused her. It felt like ripping out hair, but who in the world had flowers for hair?! She crushed the flower and turned an utterly deadly glare to Porphyro.

"IT'S YOUR FAULT!!!!!" She screeched, awarding everyone's attention.

raesilver42 08-09-2011 02:45 PM

Female Selkies had something similar that they could do to male humans, but he had never been charmed before in his life. There was more than just aggression between male Selkies when the harvest moon was rising over the sky; when they got to go ashore, the other males really only went for one thing. Between their pack of males though, dominance aggression had soared because all of them were supposed to be settled with a harem already. It was just winning female Selkies that they weren't ready for quite yet....as of now, though Saul was quite temperamental and ready to be dominant somewhere, he was still running and living with a pack of similar males. His eyes narrowed a little at her apology, though he didn't really believe it. She might still be planning to eat him, and Saul would do well to remember how easily she controlled him. His head cocked a little at her soft question; his pack had been far south, as his fur denoted, but there might be others like him close by. What if they were her food source? He already had to deal with sharks wanting to eat him...but her too? He twisted in the water again, letting his lower half sink back into the surf so he was vertical like she was....then he twisted even more, a barrel roll in the water. To Selkies, it was a sign of peace. "Yes," he said once he was facing he again. "I'm a Selkie." He was pleased that she spoke his tongue; at least he wouldn't be stuck just staring at her while she spoke ocean to him. Though he could understand it and respond with it, he was a little too proud to resort to it. He much preferred the snuffles and growls of Selkie.

Wings of Writing 08-09-2011 11:39 PM

If there was one thing sirens believed firmly it was that, it was more profitable to know many languages and songs in all those languages to better ensnare their victims. So Eilea, like all other siren children, had learned to speak selkie from a young age. It wasn't her favorite language, being to rough and animalistic for her but she knew how to speak it. She held her hands up in a 'I give' gesture and repeated her early statement in the other creature's language. "I mean you no harm. I do not eat selkie, none of us do. Nor do I eat anything but fish of the sea. I did not mean to ensnare you." she said softly, aware that the selkie had far more muscle mass than here and could kill her without so much as a second glance. She kept a song, in the selkie language, in mind as she looked at the beast, hoping her words would appease it.

SqueakyMachine 08-12-2011 12:55 AM

Porphyro smirked widely, gave her a nod, and turned to start a casual walk in the other direction. This would be fun. He was by no means done with this brat, but she didn't have to know that.

Kat Dakuu 08-15-2011 09:54 PM

Deo gaped as the man just smirked and started to walk away. He wasn't even fazed by her and it shocked and infuriated her. She stamped her foot, sending up a small puff of sand and yelled after him.

"H-hey! Are you listening?!"

Her attendants had caught up, but they stayed a distance behind her with the horses. They weren't about to interfere unless the young tyrant ordered it. It was obvious she intimidated them despite her small stature.

SqueakyMachine 08-16-2011 03:29 AM

Porphyro stopped and turned around, an amused and somewhat condescending smile on his face.

"Of course, but you did not request a reply before."

The flowers had him curious, as he once tended the herbalist's large garden and enjoyed working with plants. How could they exist without earth? It almost made him want to hang around and find out.

Almost, he thought. I will stay until this gets boring, at least. Maybe I will find out what I want to know before I decide to leave.

But of course he couldn't ask outright. That wasn't his way. And besides, she wouldn't answer him at this point anyway.

raesilver42 08-23-2011 10:59 PM

Saul peered at her for several more moments, but he didn't sense any trickery to the young creature's words. Despite her tricking him earlier, she seemed appeased and happy to talk with him at the moment....and more than that, she didn't really have the right kind of teeth for Selkie eating. He supposed that meant that she was actually just a fish eater, like him. So, though he was still a little annoyed, he swallowed it in favor of dipping his head to her. "I believe you," he consented. "And I like listening to your singing, I suppose. It was just unexpected."

Wings of Writing 08-27-2011 05:43 PM

Eilea grinned widely at Saul. "I'd sing you some in your native language, but you are susceptible to my song, any thing I sing will put you in a trance." she looked at him, "Now we are you headed, you might want to be cautious in these waters. I'm not the only siren round these parts, and my people do keep selkies as pets. There are sirens strong than me in these waters as well." she said, knowing the male would not respond well to being capture by one of her people.
