James looked at his ever-shrinking cheese pile. "While I'm sure I'll never be used to the shenanigans you and Emily put me through" he glared as Jenni took another piece of cheese. "It's sure a hell of a lot better than being shot at. Plus" he started cutting the tri-tip. "the food's MUCH better than in my assisgned place, even from last president's reign." he took a bite of his tri-tip, seemed to like it, and ate more.
Emily laughed at this, delighted that James was a good sport. "Not everything I do is to make your life a complete and utter living hell." she said smugly. "only the times where you annoy the hell out of me. Oh wait. That's like 85% of the time isn't it..hmmm" She looked around, "probably back to the hotel.. you're parents are still there, and they requested breakfast with us. Secretly, I think it's because your mom wants to make sure we didn't get shitfaced...clever woman.." |
"Well she did raise Jeff," Jenni pointed out reasonably, while stealing a piece of tri-tip. "And besides, she's known you for how many years now?" She grinned. "Come on. She knows how we work."
|
"you know. I always hate it when you talk common sense" she sighed, "ohhh well. I got upgraded to the master suite at the hotel, so we can go there and watch indiana jones movies!!"
|
Jenni grinned broadly. "Sounds good to me," she said. "We can skip the Temple of Doom or whatever it's called. Don't like that movie. The lady screams too much."
|
"yeah..we only watch screaming lady with schnopps. Shot every time she screams." She laughed and looked at james's empty plate, "can't believe you ate all that"
"when you work for a boss who makes your job more complicated as a hobby, yes" he grumbled finishing his scotch. Emily grinned. "then you shall get very fat and I will eat you for thanksgiving" she looked at Jenni. "so tomorrow we have breakfast, then the track to see our new purchases, then..?" |
"Then I suppose we can either just hang out, or we can have a drinking movie game night back at our apartment. Do all the fun ones, like Temple of Doom and Labyrinth and all that." Jenni grinned.
|
Emily grinned as well, "excellent. OO and can we watch enchanted with a shot everytime disney makes fun of disney?" She stood up and stretched her long body. The blue dress she was wearing ripple across her skin.
"fine. but i'm driving" James said standing up as well and took ahold of Jenni's hand |
Jenni grinned. "Sure. Sounds like a good plan to me." She stretched as well, still holding onto James's hand, and then started walking.
"So, how are we getting back to the hotel? You want to walk there or shall we get a ride?" |
"I was thinking on shipping our little protective child away in the bomb proof car the president left for you, and you and I can take a bit of a walk." he looked at the scowling emily, "sorry darling. Can't have you in open air that hasn't been screened before." She stuck out her tongue and marched to the waiting car. An impressive feat in the sand and four inch heels.
James wrapped his arm around Jenni's waist. "will you walk with me?" he asked, "the stars are bright" |
Jenni watched Emily storm away with much amusement. Then she smiled at James. "Certainly," she agreed, taking off her own heels and starting to walk. She hadn't wanted to wear them the whole time, but oh well. Now she could take them off and no one cared.
|
Emily was already on her blackberry, checking messages and making sure everything was being planned as she wanted it. She also had a vacation to plan for within the next two months.
He breathed a sigh of relief, "I love it when it's just the two of us" he said softly, "makes everything...possible" |
"Hello again miss," Eric said from the front seat with a grin. "You look rather familiar, I must say."
"I know the feeling," Jenni said with a grin. "Makes things not quite so crazy, huh?" |
"yeah.." she said, her mind lost inside the blackberry, "I was on the cover of time last week..lots of people have been saying that" she continued to text, then looked up. "oh. It's you." she said.
"makes it seem like the world really isn't out to kill me and I can enjoy the fresh air and actually hear from two ears" |
"Yes, it's me again. Hello again, ma'am." Eric grinned. "Nice dress. Although I don't think it's meant to be worn quite that low. Tan bra? How normal."
Jenni nodded. "And you're not going two hundred directions at once. Oh yes, I know exactly what you're talking about." |
Emily looked at him, "how normal? how do you know that I do or do not normally wear tan bra's?"
"Gods, I wish she knew how to take a break!" he said "it would be so nice just to spend a week with you doing nothing on the "Emily approves" list" |
"I'm not saying normal for you, I'm saying normal in general. It's not some funky color, like lime green or bright neon pink. It's a relatively normal color by today's standards." Eric shrugged. "You must be pretty self-centered if you automatically assumed I thought it was normal for you."
Jenni smiled. "Yeah. Well I think she's getting to the point where she needs to take a break and be out of the public eye and not have to worry about things for a while." |
"It comes with the job" she said, "but that's not your job. Espically when your job is to keep track of everybody else and pretend you are the same secret service guy as to the next to you. But, interestingly enough, you still have your style. I must see A copy of Tale of two cities sitting right next to you, and a little cobra snake pin I see on the inside of your jacket?Curiouser and Curiouser"
"The only way I can get her out of the public's eye is if i send her to a pre-cleared vacation area, camp david, or hide her deep within one of the disney's. Knowning her, if I put her deep within disney she'll work harder, just at a different location. We would need a distraction" |
"I'm carrying A Tale of Two Cities for Mrs. President, actually. She asked about a specific quote, so I looked it up for her." Eric shrugged. "Although technically I'm off-duty at the moment."
"Oh I think I already found one." Jenni grinned. "And I think she wouldn't mind going to a Disney island. Just keep her away from the computers." |
"so." she said, "off-duty? does that mean i can drive?" she asked with an innocent smile. If Jenni was around, she wouldn't be fooled.
"That might be easy. But knowning her...." he shook his head and laughed. "we''ll figure that out later, for now, my lady." He half bowed and kissed her on the lips. Sneaky guy! "what would you like to do tonight?" |
"Not a chance in Hell," Eric said bluntly. "I'm doing a favor for a friend and dropping you at your hotel again. That does not include racing in any form or letting you drive."
"Well, some relaxing time sounds good. You know, I think my suite might have a good-sized bathtub. Not quite the jacuzzi that I bet is in the Presidential suite, but nice-sized." Jenni grinned. |
Emily's ears perked up. "alright fine. Then answer me this. Who are you? Yeah yeah political bullshit aside"
James picked Jenni up with ease "that sounds amazing. Eric, a buddy of mine, is going to keep Emily entertained for the next four hours or so. That means the suite all to ourselves" |
Eric snorted. "I'm Eric. My last name's changed so many times it doesn't matter anymore, I work for the Secret Service, and I get paid really good money to put my life on the line every day."
Jenni laughed and hooked her arms around his neck with a grin. "Well then, sounds like we're going to have an excellent bath." |
"but that doesn't answer my question. Who are you? Well...i guess you are that right now, but who were you? We must have met previously..somewhere.." her phone buzzed but she was too preoccupied by him.
James walked Jenni to the hotel where he put on her favorite music and gave her the most delightful bath |
"I doubt it, ma'am," Eric said, still driving even though they'd passed the hotel a while ago. "Besides, who you were doesn't matter. Who you are is important. Who you might become is a taunting idea you can't always do anything about."
Afterwards they watched a movie and relaxed and just chatted and had fun. Which Jenni appreciated a lot. |
Emily thought about that for a second. "sometimes I feel like who I am is nothing but a tool to make everybody function properly. This makes me resort to who I was to remind myself that I still am me. Did you live up to this job, Eric? Or is this a job that pays the rent?."
James happily relaxed beside Jenni. His phone was off, and the movies were all quite good, all non-disney. "what were you like? When you were in college?" |
