that is a sweet story, Ali.
it's sad too, my mom had a brain aneursym that they caught early and she has had three brain surgeries.
not to bring the story down but aneursyms are heriditory so they all should get an MRI and an MRA.
i hope they are all doing well, with the holidays coming up and such a sweet tradition and the loss they have endured.
so what kinds of cookies are you making and how many is a ton?
i can remember my grams kitchen table being filled with all kinds of cookies, in little lines, so neatly awaiting being put in their goodie bags.
her famous cookie that everyone wanted was called a pepper cookie.
i LOVE them!
*goes to look for the recipe*
if anyone has a good recipe for them please post it.
have a great weekend, Ali!

this is a good recipe that my roommate and I just tried.

Quote:

Peanut Soup

1 pound roasted unsalted peanuts, shelled. (I used all natural peanut butter and it still came out good)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped (it didn't say how big the one I used was about the size of an apple, use more or less based on how much you like)
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
2 sticks celery, finely chopped
2 tablespoons finely chopped leeks, white part only (I used more then this)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (this isn't enough to make it hot or spicy, for those that don't like heat)
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Salt and Pepper to taste
6 1/2 cups beef or chicken stock (it said from scratch but I used store bought vegetable stock)
1/2 milk
1/2 cream
Chopped parsley, for garnish
Chopped peanuts, for garnish

Directions

In a blender or grinder, grind peanuts to a fine consistency. Heat olive oil in a large, heavy saucepan and gently saute the onion, garlic, celery, and leeks until translucent. Add cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, pepper, ground peanuts (again I used peanut butter), and stock. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, covered for 30 minutes. Add milk and cream, cover and simmer gently for an additional 30 minutes. Serve garnished with chopped parsley and peanuts.

It is even better if made in advance and reheated a day later. If too thick, add a little broth or water to thin.

(Mine did come out a little think but I'm going to try adding a little more cream. I think it might make it a little creamer. And we noticed that it only takes a small amount to fill you up. But we thought it was really good
:) hope you try it and enjoy!

FireOnix 12-15-2011 11:26 PM

:( where did everyone go?

hummy 12-15-2011 11:34 PM

We disappear every now and then. haha Sorry

Tomorrow I take my last fall final. Yay!
By the way, I had Indian food yesterday. Amazing. It's my comfort food. Some of that "white people like to know more about other people's cultures than the natives do" thing. Also, my family has some great cooks that get bored with plain old "meat and potatoes" dinners. :D

hummy 12-16-2011 06:44 PM

i don't think i have every had any Indian foods.
i'm not a curry fan at all so that may be why.
what kinds of foods did you have, Ali?

FireOnix 12-17-2011 03:19 AM

It was really good hummy.

Ive only ever had Indian once. We went to an Indian restaurant but there were flies buzzing all over the place and when I went to go to the bathroom I saw roaches on the floor. I'm all for trying new things but yeah I couldn't enjoy the food there. I haven't been back since that one time. I'm not an eww bug kind of girl but I don't mess with roaches it's just way to easy to bring them home with you.

hummy 12-18-2011 07:58 PM

ew, i am the 'ew, bugs kinda girl!'
that would have grossed me out a bit too much i think.
i was in Singapore eating at a resturant and a roach was crawling along the back of the booth i was eating at!
i told the manager and he was all, 'oh, sorry about that.'
he didn't comp my meal and i never went back either!
like three other families left with me,
i squealed when i saw it and i almost got sick too.
i mean that is a brazen little bugger to not be on the floor and all.
*shivers*

FireOnix 12-19-2011 01:38 AM

From the one I encountered I have to agree they do seem brave if not pushy. The stupid thing started to come after me when I got to close to it :gonk:

hummy 12-19-2011 07:41 PM

this is a good thread to chat in too, @TheDisireMistress;.
you do not have to be a vegetarian.
and we don't always talk food either.

Algas Soleado 01-10-2012 02:59 AM

I'm glad Fire is well enough to be home.
Of course, I can wait to hear how it happened.
There's been a lot of rain and flooding here in my part of Texas. There were even some tornados in the county. Scary stuff. I don't think anyone got hurt though.
