yea and actually it causes dehydration which believe it or not can kill you if not cared for...

true story I use to work at a care center a guy had real bad diarrhea no one was watching him or encouraging him to stay hydrated. I saw him on Friday and Monday morning when I came back in the ambulance was there to take him away...he had past away about 30 minutes before I had gotten there....

that's a specific case and generally isn't common but seems to me that it could be a possibility if all you're eating is fruit...just saying...

Algas Soleado 08-26-2011 10:10 PM

That's so sad. And while I recognize the wretched situation you described, I can't allow myself to linger in sadness. With respect to the man, I'm changing the subject to tofu.

Algas ~~ tofu makes me gag.
i know a lot of people love it but it just doesn't love me back.

FireOnix 08-26-2011 11:33 PM

changing the subject is good.

does anyone have a favorite vegetarian dish, meal or snack?

hummy 08-27-2011 12:15 AM

my favorite snack is sweet potato chips.
but sweet potato french fries is a close second.

FireOnix 08-27-2011 01:23 AM

cool

Algas Soleado 08-27-2011 04:56 PM

I just got in to plantain chips. They're pretty expensive so I'm going to try to make my own eventually. Haha

FireOnix 08-27-2011 07:00 PM

I think that's just slicing them, frying them in oil and seasoning to taste

hummy 08-27-2011 07:27 PM

oh, i thought you had to dehydrate them too.
but they are good Algas, i love them.
*munching on pumpkin seeds*

FireOnix 08-28-2011 12:37 AM

yea or you could just eat them dehydrated

Cherry Who? 08-29-2011 02:33 AM

My favorite dish... Probably this creamy vegetables and rice dish that I make a lot. Also potatoes, green pepper, onion, asparagus, butter, garlic and pepper mixed in an aluminum foil pack and barbequed. I just had that. So delicious. And of course there's steamed asparagus, I have that for lunch every day.

For a snack... chocolate. Well, that's dessert. Peanut butter? Apples... roasted peanuts... salt and vinegar chips... It changes a lot.

FireOnix 08-29-2011 06:38 PM

it all sounded good until I read salt and vinegar chips. egh! I can't stand anything with strong vinegar like that, every some Italian dressings bother me, because so many of them use vinegar. It literally kills my appetite for several days.

Cherry Who? 08-29-2011 11:49 PM

Huh, wow. I can see how it would be a turn off... but I just love vinegar. I'll blame my Scottish heritage. VINEGAR ON EVERYTHING.

FireOnix 08-31-2011 01:24 AM

:gonk: just thinking about the smell makes me feel sick.

so basically it's just going to be the 3 of us?

seriously nothing against you two...

Algas Soleado 09-01-2011 12:09 AM

I'm here! I'm sorry!! XD Darn education. Um, vinegar? Only occasionally like when I make fried rice, I use rice vinegar and only a dash. Other wise, ...meh. Plantain chips: I need to make them. hummy: I don't think I'll dehydrate them, I'm going to use a recipe that will bake them in the oven instead of frying them anyway. I also plan on adding a bit of lime because it makes everything better.
On another note: I love yogurt. It is the magic medicine of old natural products and tasty. I love yogurt with fruit, with honey, plain with spicy food, in lassi, frozen. All yogurt but bad yogurt is my friend! :D

FireOnix 09-01-2011 03:44 AM

lol I like yogurt to but I like it pre-flavored. and I like to buy it in big tubs versus the small cups. I do like the kind in the cups but buying it in the big tubs I get to add my own fruit and I can be a pig and have more then a couple of ounces.

I'm not a huge fan of Indian food, admittedly I haven't had that much so I probably have no right to say anything but the 1 time I went to an Indian restaurant it seemed to be infested with flies and roaches. :squee: a roach actually tried to get me on the way to the bathroom.

I'm not one of those girls who gets all "ew" around bugs but you really don't want to mess with roaches it's way to easy to bring them home with you.

True Fact: stepping on a roach will get it's eggs caught in the bottom of your shoe, it's hard to get them all cleaned off your shoe, so when you get into your car or get home you're actually spreading the eggs. they'll hatch and then you end up with roaches.

Algas ~~ oh add some granola!
i love the crunchy texture it adds.

FireOnix 09-02-2011 01:16 AM

@hummy your avy looks like its wearing a wetsuit

hummy 09-02-2011 08:49 AM

FireOnix ~~ lol, i guess it does.
i don't have much to choose from yet so please bear with me.

FireOnix 09-02-2011 07:15 PM

lol nothing bad about it I think it looks cool

hummy 09-03-2011 05:00 AM

thank you FireOnix.
i just love your username ;p.

anyone have any other recipes to share?

Cherry Who? 09-03-2011 05:27 AM

Actually, I whipped something up tonight after having a craving! The recipe's pretty versatile because you can switch out and add veggies depending on what you have on hand and your tastes. Not to mention it was super quick to make! It only needed to bake for about 12 minutes, so cutting up the veggies was the longest part of it, and not even that took that long. Here!

  • A package of crescent rolls
  • A small amount of margarine (if you must measure, a little under a tablespoon)
  • Minced garlic (substitute with dried minced garlic or garlic powder if you're not very big on garlic, or omit entirely)
  • Mozzarella (I used an italian blend of white cheeses - you could also add a little parmesan. Or omit if you don't do dairy)
  • Italian seasoning (if you don't have this mix, oregano by itself works fine too!)
  • Cilantro
  • Green bell pepper, cut into strips no longer than the widest part of the crescent roll
  • Tomato, sliced and cut to the size of the widest part of the crescent roll
  • Onion (I think red onion would work best, but I didn't have any on hand), sliced, then the slice cut in half and the layers separated
  • Chinese long beans*
  • Summer squash and/or zucchini would also probably be good in this!

After separating the crescent rolls and laying them out on a baking sheet, press them to make them larger and thinner (apparently this is common knowledge, but no one told me!).
Melt margarine in microwave for approx. 10 seconds, then lightly brush it onto one side of the crescent rolls with a pastry brush or fork. Spread with garlic conservatively. Sprinkle on your white cheese, then your seasonings. Arrange your vegetables at the fattest part of the crescent roll. I did two slices of a very small home-grown tomato (probably about half of a large tomato slice), three short strips of green pepper, two onion strips, and three pieces of the Chinese long beans per roll. Roll the tip of the crescent roll over your vegetables and tuck underneath. Bake according to the directions on the crescent roll package, rotating the tray halfway through.

* I discovered these at the farmers market this week. They look a bit like a green bean, but lighter, skinnier, and about a foot long! They have a very unusual taste. Green, a bit like a very mild radish (no tang) or bean sprout, with a bit of a nutty flavor. Absolutely delicious! But I've never seen them before, so they're probably hard to find, and they're not at all crucial to this recipe. But if you ever find some, I recommend trying them!

There's about 2 stuffed rolls for a serving, so plan accordingly. :)

hummy 09-03-2011 05:30 AM

that does sound yummie Cherry.
i like the sugar snap peas you see in stir fry.
but i think i will look for the long bean and give it a try.

Cherry Who? 09-03-2011 05:33 AM

Sugar snap peas are very good, yeah! But not at all like this, so probably not good for this recipe. ... Now I want some sugar snap peas, though.

I also have a stand-by recipe that I make at least once a week... it's a creamy vegetable and rice dish. Again, it's really versatile, you can switch out whatever veggies you have on hand. I love adding new veggies to an old dish! Mixes things up a bit. :)

hummy 09-03-2011 05:40 AM

*dances*
one hundredth post, woohoo.
congratulations Algas sweetie!

lol, sorry Cherry.
i am eating leftover *cold* sugar snaps and Cherries.
don't laugh at the combo either because it is delicious!

that sounds good too post it please?
