I see many people who keep thinking digital art is superior, but many also don't realise a LOT of what you see digitally started out in pencils traditionally. No matter what, many artists still find it easier to put the pencil and/or pens on paper before transferring them digitally.
If you speak in terms of colour, for me, it is faster and easier for me to do it digitally, but there are things you still can't achieve in digital form which traditional medium have. Although I do a lot of digital colouring, I like the feeling of colour pencils and paints when I do them. I find the way I colour digitally and traditionally differ in some ways as well. I think they compliment each other if you know how to do it, so there is no sure way of saying one is better than the other. I would personally recommend knowing a bit of both worlds. |
I prefer using pencil and paper too when sketching out the general outlines of a drawing, but when it comes to lining it properly and then coloring, I prefer digital, because it's just easier for me to undo or recolor over something than with traditional markers and pens and stuff. :sweat: I want the tablet so bad mostly because it'd be easier to line them too on a computer, my fingers are almost constantly aching these days from clutching the mouse so tightly every time I have to line them on the computer in order to hold the cursor steady. |
I have a fairly good concept on shading with traditional. I like to take my scketchbook and pencil outside and draw while sitting under my crab apple tree. That is also the good part of traditional art. Unless you have a laptop......digital is not as easy to carry with you.
