Hmm sounds interesting. I wonder if I'll be able to find some around here.

Antagonist 09-12-2013 01:55 PM

We usually just cook them in plain water. o_O;;

I like the small kinds too, the white/pink kind. Not as tasty, but still filling if you're hungry.

xuvrette 09-12-2013 02:12 PM

urghhh... died with eating soup round? DX

Nephila 09-12-2013 02:15 PM

I've heard that with Mochi too because of the stickiness.

Antagonist 09-12-2013 02:41 PM

Yeah. The stickiness will sometimes cause them to stick in people's throats and choke them to death. Though the part about the hot soup rounds (lol) killing people was probably due to it being so hot on the inside while the outer skin was cooler. The person eating it would think it was cooler, and when the soup round's going down their throat, it'd burst and then badly burn their windpipe.

xuvrette 09-12-2013 04:58 PM

... I will NEVER eat any of them anymore~! :<

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 09-12-2013 07:01 PM

Just take small manageable bites and chew thoroughly. [lol]

I'd like to try some of dumplings you guys were talking about. Seems interesting.

Antagonist 09-13-2013 12:48 AM

No one's saying you have to swallow them whole! In fact, if you do, you're eating it wrong. [gonk]

I always chew them thoroughly because the fillings are the most tasty part of them. [drool]

xuvrette 09-13-2013 05:55 AM

hmm... so I understood it wrong? the victim didn't chew it before? O__O

Antagonist 09-13-2013 08:34 AM

Maybe they swallowed too fast or something, which can happen when people are so eager for tasties. [XD]

Iro 09-13-2013 08:44 AM

omg Hot soup round. [rofl]
I usually call them rice dumplings myself. [lol]

I like the black sesame ones best. The night market near my house sells them with hot ginger soup on Saturdays, so I sometimes get them for dessert. :B

Antagonist 09-13-2013 08:48 AM

Eek, ginger soup. [gonk]

I like peanut soup rounds best. [drool]
And it would be awesome if soup rounds are now called soup rounds from now on thanks to this conversation. [rofl]

Nephila 09-13-2013 12:30 PM

Ouch sound like a painful way to go.

Antagonist 09-13-2013 02:20 PM

Yeah. Burns of all manner suck. [gonk]

xuvrette 09-13-2013 03:29 PM

heh... we are not influential enough to officialize the name soup round... what a pity.
Actually... I had not been having soup round for several years. Family don't especially celebrate that.

By the way, talking about that... reminds me of mooncake. My father received the mooncake gift box from Concorde Hotel. Awesome box! Lately these few years, mooncake gift boxes is so creative.

Antagonist 09-13-2013 03:56 PM

Yeah...we don't really celebrate 元宵節 either, we just eat them because they're usually on sale around the time so we can buy some frozen packets of them. [XD]

I'm not really fond of mooncakes due to the high amount of calories they contain, and the texture isn't really my favorite either...but every time the Moon Festival comes around we get loads of them. [sweat]

xuvrette 09-13-2013 03:57 PM

... I haven't ate mooncake for ages too... well, I think last year I tried a bite.
But yeah, before that, more than 10 years, I didn't taste the moon cake.

Anyway, the focus is not the mooncake. It is the BOX!

Antagonist 09-13-2013 04:05 PM

What's so special about the boxes? [:O] The ones I've seen all look pretty normal.

You call those ordinary? O__O

Antagonist 09-13-2013 05:35 PM

Except for the last one, I've seen the other three before...even had some of them at home as gifts from others. The faux-suitcase one is really cool. [lol]

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 09-13-2013 06:24 PM

Mooncake! [gonk] Been too long since I've had one. [cry]

xuvrette 09-13-2013 09:02 PM

whaaa... Antata regard those as ordinary boxes?
I collect those boxes. x.x So useful, organizing my art tools and collections.
You ever heard of a giftbox made of gold? Some even accompany with diamonds... O__O I heard it from a radio news.

Ikuku~ aww... you like mooncake?

Antagonist 09-14-2013 05:52 AM

@Iku: ...I'd gladly give you half the mooncakes we have. [gonk] (leaving the rest for my parents [XD])

@Xuv: Yeah...we have too many of them so we often just throw them away. [XD] I kept one wine box that looked kind interesting...it had one of those 'treasure box'-ish look, though more plain. But it's pretty useful and I currently use it to stash away stuff like my gloves and masks. [lol]

Ling 09-14-2013 07:32 AM

My mum made mooncakes this year, first time in a while. She prepared the fillings for them the day before yesterday, the 5 nut one and mung bean filling...then she made the biscuit dough yesterday, which is used to line the mould. The fillings go into the dough lined moulds then they're baked, brushed with egg then baked to golden glossiness. Mind you, that method is very time consuming, and is all from watching and helping make them in years past, because I was out all day yesterday so couldn't help this time.

Antagonist 09-14-2013 07:35 AM

Yeah, it is pretty time consuming. @[email protected]

We usually only make dumplings at home for New Year's.
