If you were to write a song, what would be the hook?
 

I sometimes write songs myself, usually when under extreme stress/pressure or am someone disturbed/upset by my family. So when I started writing at the beginning of this school year, I was like, "Oh crap... =w="

Mine are usually pretty depressing or represent a topic that depresses me >.>";;
I sometimes write a lot of "hooks" but never put them into song XD...

I think the hooks to my most recent song were:
"I can never go back to the life I used to live. I can only hope to quicken the speed of the end. In our cold, monochrome world, illusions block my sight."
"When everything comes crashing down and sends you screaming underground, all you do is lose your mind as you completely resign."
"It's what I want to say! You can't take hold of me. What I want to be. Just have some faith in me."
They're not that good, but seemed to be the best parts of the songs xD.
I don't particularly have an talent for songwriting so... meh >w<

I think that was pretty good actually :)

I wrote a song/poem, I wrote it in a homeless shelter. I'll give you a little background (again...my browser lost it all by accident).

After facing the fact that I couldn't work due to severe mental illness, I found myself with no medication, no food, and no money at all. I was sleeping on James's couch, and applied to social assistance. I was denied because I wasn't on the street or in a shelter. James being diabetic, and the fact we were out of food, I went down to the welfare office. There were 3 people (who weren't white) in front of me and they all walked out with cheques for over $1000 (please don't call me racist, I've noticed here that white people are oppressed). The people at the desk refused me and made me wait for a cover worker. She yelled at me and treated me badly.

Still without medication, food or money; James was getting sick because there wasn't any food in the house, and I was getting sick because I hadn't eaten or had medication yet. I had to go to a shelter (and I've heard so many horror stories about shelters), it was a huge blow to my pride, but I did it. They helped me onto welfare, but it still was a struggle. I wrote this poem when I was extremely depressed:

Pawns to the System

How can you let your people starve?
You bind us in red tape till we die
Red tape, blue ink, and bitches at the office
You look at us, as a pawn in your game
Nationwide, all the time, fuck the little guys

You give yourselves raises, bonuses too
Looking down at us and pushing us through the cracks
We never fall through, we’re pushed
Pushing us night and day
We’re pawns to the system

Babies cry, babies dye, and you don’t even blink
People cheat you, you turn a blind eye
Deaths don’t shake your house of cards
You pull the red tape tighter, another dollar for you
No place to stay, can’t work at all
Don’t tell me to get a job, you want to keep me on the sidelines

You give yourselves raises, bonuses too

Paper weighs us down, like mountains on our back

I used to write music but haven't since one of my hands is messed up. I can get the lyrics down but not the music part since I can't play anything with one hand. Normally my stuff is about whatever is bothering me at the moment. I've written lyrics about hate, love, acceptance, and a lot about one of my exes. Obviously, she bugged me a lot. XD I normally have to write something over again at least four times before I like it.

Considering everything I write are instrumentals until someone adds lyrics, my hook would be a riff that everyone will whistle too.

Oh. I've tried songwriting... Can't do it if I'm thinking about it! :sarcasm:
I'm great at poetry, it flows.. but if I am being told to write a song, right then and there, I can't really do it.. XD
It ends up being a mess~! However, I do randomly sing songs, and soo I guess a hook of a song I've randomly sung and made up is...
That's my "hook", I guess. x) Wow, you can tell where I get my inspiration from! :lol:
Anywho, yeah I'm not very good at songwriting, or well... writing instrumentals!
:P I can barely play a few intros on guitar x) Oh well, maybe I'll get better?

Well, I'm a romantic, so it would have to be sweet. Not sickly mushy, but just enough to play on the heartstrings :)

Um, obvious plug since someone started posting work.

Anywho, when I actually write one outside of a concept (of which not all tracks necessarily need a hook IMO, though it's still needed)... my hooks tend to be varied depending on what it's about. I like to attempt all subjects at least.

Music is the most important part of every song. Then personally, I put lyrics before vocals.

Mine would probably along the lines of:

LOLL, I really don't know~

I like that :)
