"And my poor shoe collection will never be the same," Aura commented, grinning. She'd only been able to stand by and watch when Sesshoumaru had gone through her closet. Although, to be fair, her shoes DID need to be paired up. Sort of.
Hisoka was purring softly too, already starting to doze off a bit in the sun. He would probably wake up again when Kris got up, though. He wasn't really sleeping. |
Sesshomaru snorted quietly. "Your shoes were in a woeful state of disarray," he said quietly. "This way you can at least find what shoes you are looking for."
Inuyasha just laughed at the two of them. Kris stayed there for an hour or so before she got up, shaking herself off. "Watch the kit," she ordered Hisoka, since Shippou was fast asleep next to her. She moved away carefully, so as not to wake the kit, before she took off at a jog to look for food. |
"I could find my shoes just as well before," Aura replied. She wasn't really even putting effort behind the protests anymore, it was more habit and teasing than anything else now.
Hisoka cracked one eye when Kris got up, and nodded when she had him keep an eye on Shippou. He shifted over a bit to get closer to the kit and then settled back in, although he stayed alert this time rather than dozing off. |
Sesshomaru rolled his eyes but smiled faintly, not even responding. Inuyasha grabbed one of his favorite toys and bounced back over to Aura.
Kris was gone for maybe an hour, by which time Shippou was just waking up. She walked back over to them with a couple of rabbits, grinning briefly. "Okay, I got dinner." |
Aura just smiled and sat down on the floor so that the pup could show her all the toys he wanted. This was something she was familiar with; she got kids showing her toys all the time at the daycare, wanting her to play with them and love them as much as the kids themselves did.
Hisoka opened his eyes and got up when Kris came back. He wasn't surprised that she was good at hunting; he'd found that hanyou tended to be, out of necessity. He still smiled at her, though, and let the kit bounce ahead of him when they started back towards the house. |
Inuyasha had a good time showing her all his toys until they were spread out in a big mess around the two. Sesshomaru allowed it for the moment, knowing he'd clean it up later. Besides, the two were having fun.
Kris stayed outside to clean the rabbits, glancing inside every few moments. Shippou watched her with interest. It was never too early to start learning these things. |
Aura indulged the pup, knowing he was having a good time. She didn't mind at all, and besides, wasn't that what she was there for in the first place? To help look after him? This was part of the job.
Hisoka slipped inside to change quickly before coming back out to keep the other two company. He didn't interrupt the impromptu lesson, though. He wasn't going to infringe on the bond forming between the two foxes. |
Sesshomaru kept an eye on both of them, sitting on the floor with his arm propped up on his raised knee. He knew they were having a good time, but he was more focused on Aura than Inuyasha.
Kris showed Shippou what she was doing, making sure he knew what she was talking about. He paused, thinking it over, and glanced at the cat. "Can Hisoka hunt, too?" |
Aura had no trouble playing with the pup and keeping him amused. She glanced over at Sesshoumaru, and looked back down again quickly when she realized he was watching her. She blushed a bit, but didn't say anything about it.
"I can hunt," Hisoka said. He grinned a bit at the kit. "If the need arises, I am also capable of fishing." |
Sesshomaru smirked faintly but didn't look away, instead watching her. His instincts were telling him she'd make a great mother, and he had to concurr. She would be a good mother.
Shippou's eyes widened. "Really?" he asked. Kris turned her laugh into a delicate cough, hiding her amusement. |
Aura wasn't sure how much time had passed, but she could tell Inuyasha was starting to wind down again. She changed how she was sitting slightly, so she was sitting on the floor with her legs crossed rather than kneeling on her knees, since she was fairly sure that the pup was going to want to snuggle in soon. She didn't mind acting as a pillow for a while.
"Really," Hisoka replied. "As long as one is sufficiently quick, fishing is not difficult." He glanced at Kris, wondering briefly if she had any skill at fishing. |
Inuyasha moved over to her with one of his toys, curling up in her lap and yawning hugely, showing little baby fangs, before he settled in to relax.
Sesshomaru just stayed where he was, relaxing as he watched them. Kris snickered. "Fishing is fun. I'll show you tomorrow." "Really?" Shippou perked up a lot. "Yes, really. I promise." |
Aura wrapped her arms around the pup and pulled him a bit closer, letting him nap. She glanced at Sesshoumaru again, and saw he was still watching her. She couldn't help but blush slightly again, but it wasn't as bad as the first time.
"I'll accompany you both, if that's alright?" Hisoka asked, looking at Kris. He actually didn't mind fishing, since he didn't have to get too wet to do it. |
Sesshomaru just smiled faintly. "He likes you," he murmured. "That is unusual." The pup could be social, sure, but it was different when someone was in his house, therefor his territory. The pup was handling it very well.
Kris nodded. "Sure. Sounds fine to me." She started cutting off strips of meat to cook. She could eat raw meat, and she had on several occasions, but she was more fond of cooked meat. |
Aura blinked. She hadn't noticed anything different about Inuyasha from how he behaved at the daycare.
"Really?" she asked softly, not wanting to wake the pup in her lap. "I hadn't noticed anything different. This is how I've seen him behave at the daycare every day." Hisoka nodded, and let Kris go back to preparing the meat. To be honest, he preferred cooked meat, as well. He'd eaten it raw before, but he still rather liked it cooked. |
"The daycare is common ground," Sesshomaru said. "He knows that we've already checked it out and deemed it safe. He knows he has to behave there."
He paused for a moment, looking at the pup. "This is home, however. It's different to have someone at home, in your territory, than in a common place. The fact that he is acting the same means he does like you." Kris got the meat sliced and set it near the fire to cook, her eyes half-closed as her mind wandered. |
Aura thought about that for a moment. She didn't completely understand, since she never really 'got' the distinction between home territory and elsewhere that youkai tended to make, but it still make some sense.
"I guess I kind of see what you're saying," she said after a moment. "Thinking about anything in particular?" Hisoka asked softly after a moment or two, watching Kris. |
Sesshomaru chuckled quietly. "I hae noticed that it is sometimes hard for humans to understand territory as we do," he said, quirking an eyebrow at her. "Would you like an explanation?"
Kris glanced over at him. "Full moon tomorrow night," she said quietly. She was still half-tempted to leave those two there and run back to the house to hide for the duration of the night. But she wasn't entirely sure she could get away with it. Besides, she didn't think Hisoka was the type to stab her in the back once he knew. |
"I kind of understand," Aura said. "It sort of makes sense to me. It's not really something that humans as a race really worry about, though."
Hisoka nodded. He kept track of the moon phases. But why did Kris look so worried about it...? Then it occurred to him, and he understood. "I see," he said. After a moment, he offered, "If you like, I could stand guard tomorrow night." |
Sesshomaru chuckled quietly. "I know," he said lightly. "Although I have seen humans bicker over territory before." He quirked an eyebrow at her.
Kris turned faintly red but she nodded. "We'll see if it's necessary. It's normally quiet here." She just hoped the calm lasted. |
"That's different," Aura said. "I know that much. It's not the same thing." And she did know that. Living with Kris, she knew the difference between humans fighting over space and youkai being posessive over it. It was just an abstract kind of thing, and thinking about it that way took some getting used to.
Hisoka nodded. "I'll leave it up to you, then," he said. "But the offer still stands." And he didn't mind standing guard for her at all. If it made her feel a bit easier about being completely human for the night, then he would be glad to do it. "And if you would prefer to think about it this way... Perhaps it would be an opportunity to get the kit used to the idea that his new mother needs protection once in a while. From what I've seen, I believe he'll take to the idea and will want to help." |
Sesshomaru nodded and relaxed again, glad that she could grasp that much, at least. Even if she didn't understand it, he knew what a big thing that was, and for the pup to be as comfortable around her at home in his own territory as at the daycare...
Well, Sesshomaru might have less to worry about than he'd originally thought. Kris nodded with a wry smile. "I'm sure he will," she said, shaking her head. "I've noticed that males of any kind tend to want to protect females." Well. In certain circumstances. When the females were pack, or when it would be adventagious to keep them alive. But sometimes (in fact most of the time with her) males tended to want to kill her. She was naturally a little wary. |
Aura settled in for a little while, content to let the pup sleep in her lap. He would be awake and energetic again fairly soon, she was sure, but for now, she would let him sleep and enjoy the temporary peace.
Hisoka nodded in agreement, but he was also aware that there were exceptions to that. "Let me know what you decide, then," he said. "I will stand guard if you want me to, and I am sure Shippou will want to stay close to you for the duration of the night, regardless." |
Sesshomaru relaxed where he sat for a good half hour or so. At least until Inuyasha started moving again, and then the pup managed to pull them both into playing. Sesshomaru didn't mind much.
Kris nodded and flipped the meat, so it would cook evenly. "Shippou, try this and tell me if you think it needs to be cooked more." She picked up one of the pieces and handed it to him. She watched as he took a bite, chewing thoughtfully. "It's good." He looked rather surprised, and Kris grinned and nodded, handing a piece to Hisoka as well. |
Aura didn't mind, much, either. Somehow, she enjoyed watching Sesshoumaru playing with his brother. It made him seem less... unapproachable. Watching the two of them play, she could even ignore the rug burn on her elbows from when she stumbled in order to avoid tripping over one of Inuyasha's toys. She would rather skin her elbows a bit than break one of the toys any day.
Hisoka accepted the piece of meat and took a bite. Then he nodded at Kris. It was cooked well, and it tasted very good. He approved. |
