Kris snarled at him, a little more red bleeding into her eyes. Right then, she hated him for pointing it out. But she knew, rationally, that she couldn't beat him in an outright battle. So she'd have to even the tables somehow.
|
Hisoka watched her reaction carefully. Clearly, he'd hit on the issue.
"Aside from a rather obvious error in judgement on his lordship's part," he said, curiously, "why does it upset you so much that he is trying to court Aura?" More information was always a good thing before choosing a course of action, especially now. |
Kris growled and advanced on him another step, her hands flexing as she tried to figure out how best to get at him. She had barely even heard his question.
|
Hisoka held his ground, keeping his expression calm and clear. She didn't have the upper hand, and he wasn't going to give it to her. At least, not yet.
And he'd been around the woods enough last time that he knew he could lead her on a chase if he had to. |
Kris didn't advance any more, still glaring at him. She was not pleased. At all. But she wasn't quite that pissed off at him yet. Although he was getting there.
|
Kris had stopped again. Alright, Hisoka thought, time to ask one more time.
"Why does it upset you so much that Aura is being courted?" he pressed. The situation struck him as almost like it had to get worse before it could get better. He suspected that it had everything to do with what Kris had said about nothing being solid... Just not in relation to Shippou. |
Kris glared at him. Stubborn cat. But she knew he wasn't going to drop it until she told him.
"Because she's mine," she said simply after a moment of hesitation. That was reason enough. Not to mention a good way to dodge things. |
Interesting... He'd noticed the hesitation, but didn't say anything about it.
"And you would completely shelter her from the rest of the world?" Hisoka asked. |
"I'd shelter her from youkai who don't ask permission first." Kris's eyes narrowed. "Even if I am just a hanyou, we both deserve that much."
|
"And it was a terrible error in judgement on his lordship's part," Hisoka agreed. "One there is really no excuse for. You are right, you do deserve that much." He would willingly admit to that. She was right, after all, and she had reason to be upset about the situation. "Perhaps it would benefit everyone if you went home to things could be corrected?" It was worth a shot.
|
Kris looked at him. She didn't really want to, and she still wanted to hurt Sesshomaru. So she shook her head, turning away from him and going back to her work. She had to calm down more before she'd trust herself back in civilization.
|
It was progress, at least. He had gotten her to think about it.
Backing off a little, Hisoka settled himself on a stump to watch her and make sure nothing happened. He would stay until she was calm enough to go back home. |
Kris worked for the rest of the day and well into the night, acutely aware of Hisoka sitting there. She was tempted to drive him off a few times, but she never actually did. Just kept working until she finally had to stop, too tired to keep working.
|
Hisoka approached her slowly.
"I think a hot bath is in order," he suggested gently. "It will make you feel worlds better." |
Kris snorted. "Yeah, I'm sure," she muttered, rolling her shoulders with a little wince. "Easier to go jump in the river, though."
|
"A hot bath will relax your shoulders," Hisoka pointed out. "It will help with that ache." He paused. "Or, if you'd prefer, I could rub your back and shoulders for you." It was a long shot, but he still wanted to offer.
|
Kris hauled herself to her feet again, shaking her head a little. "Doesn't matter," she muttered again, starting to walk towards the river. It was easier. And she was too tired to care.
|
Hisoka sighed and got in front of her. Stubborn fox...
"If it doesn't matter," he said, "then humor me and go for the hot bath rather than the river. It will make you feel better in the long run." |
Kris glowered at him. Sure, she had a bath installed, but she still had to go get water and then heat it up, and that was going to take more energy than she had left, after not sleeping for a few days.
"Wrong subject," she said after a moment. "Not it. Me." |
There we go. That was the issue Hisoka was trying to unearth.
"You do matter," he said softly to her. "You matter quite a bit, in fact." He wouldn't have been trying so hard to get her to come around if she didn't matter. "Come on. I can set up the bath for you. I think you could use some time to relax." |
Kris sighed and gave up with a shrug. "If you want to waste your time, go ahead," she muttered, trying to duck around him so she could go flop in the river for a while. Maybe that would wake her up.
|
"It seems you're leaving me with no choice, then," Hisoka said, stepping forward. Without another word, he picked Kris up and put her over his shoulder, then took her back towards the cabin. If she wasn't going to see to her own well-being, he would do it for her.
|
Kris yelped at that, starting to struggle and flail. "Put me down! Dammit Hisoka!" She glowered at him. Well his back.
|
"That would be counter-productive," Hisoka replied. His tone was almost actually cheerful as he spoke. "I'm taking you inside, and you're going to take a hot bath and relax, and maybe even get some rest. And if you try to run, I will bring you back as many times as it takes."
|
Kris growled and glared at his back, tempted to bite him. Instead she fisted her hands in the back of his shirt.
