I think it's fine. Just about everyone here where I live has em'. It's completely normal in today's world so why not bring a normal doll on the scene. I dislike Barbie on the whole but this one is really cool.
It's not a children's doll, no, but it's awesome for adults who want to collect it. I see nothing wrong with it ^^ |
I really don't understand what is all that whining about. Especially that closed-minded beer + cigarette comment. Geez, it's a collector's item. It's for adults. It's sold out. There's no reason to complain "kids shouldn't be allowed anywhere around this doll" because it's simply not a toy for kids.
Nothing more to say, really. |
Just cuz Barbie got inked doesn't mean all kids in the world are gonna want some tats too. Most people aren't that easily swayed. And besides, if they see someone walking down the street with a million tatoos, that can sway the kids anyways.
|
It's viable in the West. Definitely not Asia. If it's for collecting, it's actually a pretty awesome idea.
|
I hate her clothes and hair XD
But the tat thing itself? Long as they're tasteful....I don't really care. |
I think the Barbie is fine, apart from maybe those horrific leggings. . . But why is that creature with it called Bastardino. . . Last time I checked, bastard was meant to be an offensive word. . .
|
I think Tattooed Barbie is fierce. The tattoos are beautiful and it does give off a pin up girl vibe. (From earlier comments.)
Collectors item or not, I would buy that Barbie if it weren't so expensive. xD Either way, people need to calm down. We're not in the 17th century, people. :c It's sad to think people today still classify unique beauty by negative impressions. |
I always had Barbies as a little girl. Still have them, collecting dust in my basement. You know, i think this new tattooed Barbie is beautiful. this is what the women of today look like! (well some of them) I would have wanted her ten years ago! She breaks the rules, and I think women should be able break them. If i had the money, i'd add her to my collection!

Quote:
Bastardino is one of the "Cactus friends", characters made by Tokidoki. Tokidoki ["is the Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand created in 2005 by Italian artist Simone Legno and his business partners Pooneh Mohajer and Ivan Arnold."] So basically this Barbie is a collaboration between Tokidoki and Barbie hence the tattoos, purse design, and Bastardino. |
My mom got a book, er, catalog/Magazine with her in it along with others.
I saw her and was like, "She is so pretty" and it's toki doki so I like it even more. and like stated before, it is meant to be a collectors item. |
I had a barbie when i was younger that had tattoos. And i am not like a failure at life or on drugs nor doi have any tattoos. people need to calm down.
|
I think it's a marvelous idea! It eliminates the stereotypical image of "Barbie". Not every Barbie needs long blonde hair and cutesy clothing. I think it's a great change. I think tattoos and piercings are starting to become more and moe acceptable in society, and I love that idea (I have facial piercings as well).

Barbie sucks balls in all it's forms, tattooed or not. Stuffed animals are where it's at. 8D
|
I honestly do not see why this is even up for debate. It's a collector piece so children shouldn't be playing with it anyway.
That being said, I also don't see an issue if children do end up playing with it (if they're of age and don't swallow pieces). She has tattoos, so what? As long as they're not curses or dirty things who cares. How many kids don't already play with temporary tattoos. Or are those out of fashion now-a-days? I used to have tons of those. |
This is good that now Barbie also have tattoo, pink heart tattoo on ankle looks stylish on Barbie. The limited edition of Barbie is not so good for her fans.

Some people are just too sensitive. I can't help but laugh at parents who say "What's next, Barbie with a cigarette in one hand and beer in the other?". Then again, Mattel has made it clear that this particular Barbie is for adult collectors rather than kids, why boo them over this? The most contemptible thing about Barbie is the body image issues she helps perpetrate, and the linked article clearly isn't about that. Like others here have said, people from all walks of life, from the richest to the poorest, have tattoos. The only way I could see this being contemptible is if the tattoos depicted nasty stuff, which they clearly don't. Tattoos are some of the things whose presence alone shouldn't be offensive.

Woah O.o okay, that's a few more tattoos than I was expecting to see.
Yeah, a few tattoos are kind cool but I'm not too sure what the impact on kids might end up being. I've got nothing against tattoos if you want to get them but if someone gets them too early in life, they may regret it later and it's a costly mistake to make. It can be harder to get a job if you have visible tattoos that aren't easily covered with your average uniform. Not to mention people might negatively label others who have such markings. Although having the chance to express your art on your body is pretty sweet to. And they are pretty... I just don't know the psychological impact :P kids are rather impressionable at times. Personally, I'm on the fence-and there doesn't seem to be much of a "Not sure" vote there XD |
"Bastardino" might be a little much, but otherwise I don't see a huge problem.
I mean, I understand why some parents might not like it, but if you don't like it, don't get it, which is what I say about all tattoos/piercings. Backseat parenting is not cool, especially when you're not even in the same car. |
When I heard there was a TokiDoki Barbie...I nearly cried in joy.
No, that was a dramatization. I really do think the Barbie is a fabulous idea, though. She's pretty, spunky and fun. She's a collectors item and not meant for children. If someone has an issue with her, then don't buy her. Problem solved, problem staying solved. |
All I have to say is that as long as she's a collector's item, it's a-okay. Not many young girls will obtain a collector's Barbie unless they're spoiled or get a Christmas/Birthday Barbie. But ones like the one you mentioned tend to be the kind of Barbie older teenagers or adults would obtain. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong wit hit, just saying that that's how I think it goes. xD

Ok so it's to have a pregnant barbie but not a barbie with tattoo's that makes no sense. Tattoo's won't get you pregnant.
|
Uhhhh, that made me laugh a little bit.
No, tattoos won't get you pregnant, but tattoos still go along with deviant behavior, especially in young adults. Now, a tattoo doesn't make you a bad person, but a person under 18 who's covered in tattoos is probably going to be a bit of a delinquent. So, technically, if you've got a lot of tattoos and you're uber young, you might just end up being pregnant because you got into a bad scene at a young age. Honestly, I love this Barbie. I think she's beautiful. I wouldn't give it to my daughter because it IS a collectible doll. Dunno if anyone's mentioned that. Collectible dolls really shouldn't be taken out of the box. However, if they came out with a non-collectible tastefully tattooed Barbie, I'd give it to my little girl, and explain to her that tattoos are not forbidden, but that I won't allow them until she's over 18, and she thinks out the tattoo and puts meaning into it. Also, I kinda think the pregnant Barbie was a good idea. It's a really great teaching tool other than the fact that you take the Barbie's belly off so that she can "give birth." |
I think it's rad. Tattoos are art, and I believe they should become less of a taboo. It's not really a children's toy, this one, but I don't think it would be inappropriate if one ended up with it and thought it was pretty. It's about teaching acceptance, not peer pressuring tots to get tattoos.
|
God forbid an already over-sexualized doll has TATTOOS. We'll ruin the poor childrens' minds by exposing them to such filth! </sarcasm>
But seriously, I thought once everyone had decided that Barbie already had ridiculous inhuman proportions and we were done with any controversy and content to let it just be a doll. If your kids see me on the street with my tattoos out in the open and don't think about it beyond 'that man had a snake on his arm' then I don't see the difference in putting it on a doll. It's not like only bad people have tattoos. |
At least it's not that way anymore.
Back in the day the only people who had tattoos were delinquents, prisoners, and Military/Navy men. It's hard to get rid of such a stigma when the majority of people are still linked to the Baby Boom generation which tended to hate such things. |
