Katara was startled by his question about proposals. She glanced at him in surprise and wondered if he was serious or just joking. Most likely just joking, which was fine with her, so she smiled. This was a new twist to viewing life. Um, no one. I mean thank you for the compliment. It is really sweet of you, but I haven't really hung out with anyone on the social level. Your one of the few that tastes my cooking too. Seldom do people stay over.
She stood up and started to clear the table, moving used utensils to the sick. There wasn't much left in the way over leftovers. She had always been good at figuring out how much would be left. With a grin, she put the rest of the fried potatoes on his plate and put the rest of the dirty dishes into the sink. Then she filled the sink with warm bubbly water and quickly began washing the dishes. While doing that she wondered about Dein. Why not ask? So you don't remember anything from before a year ago? What are your first memories? Did you wake up in a hospital or something? There must have been some clues for you to follow. She put the last dish in the dish rack to dry, used the cotton cloth to wipe her hands, and turned around to face him. He wasn't the most open guy in the world, but he didn't make her uneasy so he must be alright. |
"Huh.. Well that's odd and a bit disappointing." Dein responded when Katara spoke of her social life, before placing a hand on his chest with a solemn look, "On behalf of all men in this town, then, I apologize for their not noticing some-one so splendid." He added before smiling again, yes, he was mostly just joking, but that was simply the way he went about life, her questions about his memories did raise a good point as he placed a hand on his head, pulling something of a confused look, mostly because trying to remember anyhting beyond the last year would just leave him wandering in metaphorical circles.
"I actually didn't wake up at a hospital, not the first time," He mentioned, shrugging a little, "I woke up on what I could only assume was the site of some kind of battle. The place around me was in ruins, there were dwindling fires, fallen swords and flags, and bodies.. A lot of bodies.." the man shrugged then, shaking his head, "All I know is I woke up in armour, this cloak and this arm piece which had been different to the armour. When I tried to get up and leave the sword followed me and refused to leave my side. Though I figured out it's attached to this gauntlet," he patted the portion of armour on his left shoulder, "I can't seem to bring myself to part with this or my cloak and the sword cant seem to leave it." He chuckled, "I wandered, pretty much empty-headed and confused, all the basics were there, thoughts, speech, things like that, but I couldn't remember anything, I didn't even realize I was losing blood until I collapsed again. I woke up in a healers home in some nearby town that had been partly scathed by whatever the battle was, they didn't even recognize me or whoever the two fighting factions were." He flexed his arms a bit, mostly as a show off, "I found out I knew how to fight, at least, fended off an attack from raiders when I'd gotten back on my feet, discovered I had an aptitude for adventuring, doing mercenary work, stuff like that, but I only went after bandits and stuff, no attacking civilians or anything, didn't sit right with me." He paused and frowned a little, "And.. Well last night when you said dragons were extinct, I swear I had this great feeling in my heart or something that was saying you were wrong, I really do believe like they aren't dead yet, I can't explain why because I dont remember why, I just feel it," |
Katara listened calmly, nodding when appropriate. There wasn't much there. He was recognized and there was really no clues there except he could fight. Must have been some battle though to have had men like him with weapons and armor like that. Sounds like the battle was so intense that either those memories fled for your sanity's sake or your were just that badly injured. I'm sorry. She hesitated, then headed out into the shop. I'm going to go do inventory until opening. When your ready, come on out and I'll help you open up your first day on the job.
She headed into the shop and took a deep breathe. Well, if he felt dragons weren't gone then maybe some subconscience thought was supporting this without any memories to support it. That boded well for her. Maybe he could help her find them. Might be a good thing with the way that magic guild in town had been acting lately. They have always been good to the civilian population, but something about smelled fishy to her. Like a snake eyeing a helpless rabbit. Taking another deep breathe she began to walk through the aisles checking how much stock was left on a clipboard that was kept at the counter. Might as well be useful. |
