Tattoo Opinions.

So I'm going to be getting a tattoo soon, and I want opinions on it.

Let me know what you think.

A black rose with a vibrant green stem. It has four petals falling off and swirling around it. On the petals are the words ‘Never Gonna Be Alone.’

It’s a tattoo to encompass a lot of things.

First: It is in memory of my brother. Black roses were his favorite flower.

Two: It represents the balance of life and death. The stem of the flower being life and the rose itself death

Third: It represents those we lose in our lives and how they may be gone, but they never really leave us.

Fourth: It is my worst fear. This is represented by the words "Never Gonna Be Alone" on the petals. This is the title to a Nickelback song, which if you've ever seen the music video; you will understand why I chose these words.

Ahh. Everyone's been asking me where I'll put it and it's going to be on the outside of my thigh just above the knee. I know that sounds weird, but I've put a lot of thought into that placement. I'm not getting a tattoo with so much meaning to it and not being able to show it off relatively easily. However, I am going to be working as a professor, so I'm very aware of how important it is to be able to cover it up. Thus that location.

Marionetta 11-06-2011 07:10 AM

It sounds cool. But being alone isn't associated with roses. Roses represent love. Black roses represent death.

Wings of Writing 11-06-2011 07:11 AM

I know the words represent the fear of being alone. I guess I should have made that more clear. Will go do that now.

Bah! Nickleback.
XD
Well, I think it's cool either way. Good luck! Hope it turns out well!

Wings of Writing 11-06-2011 07:22 AM

Thank you. I hope so too. :D

Ottersaurus 11-06-2011 08:47 AM

It sounds like a well thought out tattoo for sure. I'd be careful where you get it though. Getting tattoos in certain places where the skin stretches drastically as you age can be a huge disappointment in your later years.

SarahNorwood 11-06-2011 08:59 AM

I am scared of tattoos myself.. to get one anyway... if it is appropriate and I know I would keep it forever, i would get one though. but i don't think i could get one cause i can't take it.. anyway, I think it's a good idea. sounds lovely to me. but, it's all a matter of if you want it. remember, it's your body...you are the one that has to permanantly have it. so your opinion on it is the most important.

lightkanna 11-06-2011 12:18 PM

If you get it, I want to see it, post up some good pictures. ^^ I think if a person wants to get a tattoo they should, though they should know that getting it will hinder their ability to get a proper job. Since some jobs deem it as inappropriate for their business. As long as you want it, know how to work it in good use, then everything is fine. If it has sentimental meanings, go ahead. ^^ Just remember the risk of getting a tattoo, business people really don't want it, since assumption of it is it will ruin their image for the company.

Projectwolfie 11-06-2011 01:25 PM

This is certainly refreshing. When I opened the topic, I thought I was going to run into someone talking about the normal tribal tats on their arms or something. You've put a looot of thought and symbolism into yours, I like it. XD

I would say go for it, though personally... I'd only put a tat on my wrists. It's not in a place that looks absolutely stupid when you're older when done right, and it can be covered up rather easily with a long-sleeve shirt or a watch if needed.

Elwing 11-06-2011 01:40 PM

Where will you put it?

I like the idea, if it has so much meanings.
I want a tattoo myself too.

II Certified II 11-06-2011 01:48 PM

Since the tattoo has a big significance, then why not. After all it's always a choice.
I think it would look good at the back of your neck or on your back.

But don't forget to do some little inspection where you will get the tattoo especially the needles they are using.

Cora 11-06-2011 01:50 PM

Cora thinks that sounds like a good tattoo.

Codette 11-06-2011 04:34 PM

I think its a lovely idea. I'm a huge advocate for getting a tat for a reason. Everyone in my family has one, and I hope to get one too someday if I can work up the courage to ^.^

I want mine to be on the back of my right shoulder. I want a purple rose -symbolizes creativity and dreaming, resting in the hollow of a king cobra thats coiled up, it's hood flared- an design I've always connected to majesty, protectiveness, and fierceness, while being beautiful.

Wings of Writing 11-06-2011 07:54 PM

Wow. Thank ya'll for so much input! I didn't expect people to respond and take it so seriously. So thank you for that.

I'm definitely feeling really good about getting it. I just need to talk to a few people about the place I want to go. And go check it out. And get my resident artist to draw it. Then, hopefully I'll have a tattoo by Christmas.

Also, for those who asked about where I edited that into my first post.

Also codette, sarah norwood, and elwing. I'm not a big advocate for tattoos, but I do think if you have a special idea and meaning to a tattoo go for it. I would never get a tat just because. Which is why I'm putting so much into mine. I've actually been thinking about it for four years, and have finally just happened on the perfect design.
Codette I think your tattoo sounds amazing!!

DaisyKeehl 11-07-2011 02:51 AM

That sounds amazing! It is a great idea and it is your body so go for it. I love tattoos as long as they have a good meaning.
The only times I don't like tattoos is when its something stupid... like daffy duck or something o.o
Anyways, I have seen the music video and I love Nickelback. I even saw them in concert. I would love to see a picture of it when you get it done. :)
Speaking of tattoos.. Kat von D is my idol. She inspires me to keep drawing and Ithink she is an amazing tattoo artist. haha sorry to get slightly off topic.
I have been thinking about getting a tattoo but I am to young to get one since my mom won't let me. I bwant to get a small black and red heart on the inside of my wrist.
Their is a months for self-harm awareness and everyday you are supposed to draw a heart on your wrist. I do it because I have had friends who have died from cutting and or overdose etc. I used to do that stuff too. Its a symbol for all that I have gone through and it would be on me forever.

Wings of Writing 11-07-2011 03:53 AM

Nickelback is amazing, and I envy you for seeing them in concert. Everytime they've been in town I either can't afford it or can't make it to the concert.

And I love Kat Von D as well. I'd die if I could afford/get a tattoo by her.

DaisyKeehl: if you want that tattoo keep it in mind. Write it down or just don't let yourself forget it, and once you are old enough do it.
That's what I'm doing with my tattoo. I've had this idea (in various forms but always with a black rose and green steam) since I was 16 and too young. I'm now 20 and finally have the age and money to get it. Plus, after considering it and wanting it for so long. I feel it's just right to go ahead and get it.

Codette 11-07-2011 03:54 PM

Thanks Wings, I've been sketching my tat for 4 years now... it's just a matter of getting the courage to face my issue with needles and pain ^.^'

p o p p e t ♥ 11-07-2011 08:46 PM

I think it's a wonderful idea :) I too wanted a tattoo once upon a time :P I got it too. But I also put a lot of thought into it for a least a year. I drew it myself, it represented a lot of different things, and I placed it on the top of my foot. Easiest place to cover, besides my bum. Lol but I don't want to have to show off my bum to show off my tattoo

I like the idea, but I don't think I'd ever get a tattoo on my leg like that. It's just SUCH a random place. I think there are other places you could easily cover and still be able to show it off. Like your ribs (but that hurts worse than your leg). Or your shoulder blade, since as a teacher you probably won't be wearing a lot of tank/tube tops I'd assume lol Those places also still don't take away from your appearance in something like, an evening gown... although, you could wear a longer gown to cover your leg. -shrugs- It's totally up to you, I think it's going to be beautiful no matter where you put it.

I also wanted a tattoo down my spine. I battle with myself about it all the time. It will hurt like no other, AND I have a one year old daughter now... so I can't really see myself with a tattoo like that anymore. I don't know. I feel like I might regret something that big and so uncoverable when I'm older.

Wings of Writing 11-07-2011 08:55 PM

Yeah, I've put a lot of thought into this tattoo (four years, actually). I'd love to get it on my shoulder blade or rib, but I don't know those places just don't feel right to me. My first choice place was actually my calf, but I'd be stuck wearing pants, and I love wearing skirts.

The placement is still probably the one think I'm kinda mer about because I realize it is such weird spot, but no other place makes me go 'yeah I like that spot' like this spot does. It's weird. I may talk to the artist about it a bit. See what she says.

Also, I think spine tattoos are so beautiful. I think if you really, really want it. Who cares if you have a kid? The perception of tats is changing. They are becoming more common, less taboo. So people are more accepting of them. and I know plenty of people with children who have tattoos and still plan on getting more.

Ashlyn Mae 11-07-2011 10:54 PM

I think it's a good idea, especally since it'll have so much meaning for you and you've given it much thought. Plus you'll be putting it in a spot where you can cover it up if need-be but still be able to show it off if you want to.

Awh envy isn't good xD
They are great in concert though. I hope you get to see them soon. :)
I have had the tattoo idea for about 4 years now :).
You're not the only one who wishes that xD

HIM_ROCK 11-08-2011 03:21 PM

It sounds like it's going to look nice, tattoos are always better when they have meaning behide them. I have a koi on my foot and I'm looking at getting a dragon for my next tattoo, going with the story that the koi swims up the stream and turns into a dragon when it reaches it's destination, it's going to be symbolising the start and end of my journey.

I would suggest if you're having a coloured in tattoo to have it done in stages, outline then colour in a different sitting so it gives it time to heal especially if you turn out to be a bleeder.

Mystic 11-08-2011 03:40 PM

I'm not a big fan of words on the skin just because most of the time people get them too small and after a while they look like shit. The rest of the tattoo sounds cool though. Do you have any pictures of what it's going to look like yet?

The Wandering Poet 11-09-2011 01:06 AM

All I have to say, is spellcheck spellcheck spellcheck spellcheck...

and trust your tattoo artist a TON...

I've seen some bad tattoos from the above not happening...

TheEmpressofEvil 11-09-2011 06:18 AM

It's a cool song and probably very special to you since you want to put it permanently on your body but I wouldn't write "gonna" on my body.

I was thinking of getting a tattoo but the only places I'd put one would be my shoulders or back because, like you mentioned, coverable is something I really need. I wouldn't put one on my legs because that just seems like a weird place and being that I have to dress professionally for work, it would have to go on my thighs because it'd be seen if I wore a skirt.

like everyone else has mentioned trust your artist. and the other thing. COMMUNICATE with them. If you don't like the direction your artist is going in, tell them so. Tattoo artists especially will understand and handle criticism really well because they know this is something very special to you and that you'll have on your body for the rest of your life and they want you to be 100% happy with the work they're doing.
