Christmas Trees

Do you already have your tree up and decorated?
Is it a real tree or an artifical one? Which do you prefer?

Codette 11-29-2011 10:15 PM

I'm probably going to put up all the decorations either this weekend or next while my family is at work.
I love real trees, unfortunately, my mother, older sister and myself all have pine allergies, and not to the same trees, and the only tree we found that my brother and dad liked and the 3 of us could touch, was upwards of $200 for a damn tree.... So we have an artificial one.

Venya 11-29-2011 10:29 PM

We decorate the house but the tree not so much. we have a small plastic tree that lights up when plugged in. I don't mind so much really it means we don't have to have a mess after the real tree.

Mystic 11-29-2011 11:16 PM

I used to put up fake trees. No, not one or two...but like twenty. I'm not kidding either. My mom and I used to make a forest of Christmas trees but I haven't put up any trees in years since I no longer celebrate Christmas.

Don't have it up yet, but hopefully here soon! Maybe this weekend. We just have a 6ft artificial one. I also want to get a smaller one, maybe 3ft, just to have. :XD
My French teacher in high school got a real tree for Christmas and we helped decorate it. I liked the smell, but I think quite a bit of needles fell off it over the course of us having it.

My family owns an artificial one but we won't put it up this year. We're going down to California to see my gram and I'm pretty excited because I want to go to Koreatown. XD

butterscotch 11-30-2011 02:07 AM

We have a fake one - just put it up this past weekend and I finished decorating it today. I love real trees, but my mom is allergic, so I'll have to wait til I have my own place someday.

I also have a mini white tree that I put up in my room. Haven't gotten that one fully together yet.

We've always used real trees in our family. I love decorating the trees with all the different decorations, especially ornaments. We don't have our tree up yet, thought.

Magnolia Pierre 11-30-2011 02:32 PM

We use two huge artificial ones in our house. The angel one we decorate with white, crystal, and blue ornaments and the other tree is my mom's bird tree which is red and filled with bird decorations. The white tree is the main one we put our presents under and celebrate Christmas around. We also made an ornament for my dog that I grew up with since I was 3 who passed when I was 16 or 17 ((i'll be 21 in a few days)) and that gets hung up right next to where I want to sit to open my gifts.

The bird tree is mainly my mothers because she dedicates her life to saving wild and domesticated birds that are injured. I plan to find more bird ornaments for her this Christmas. Both trees are in different room so nothing gets cluttered.

We used to put up our nine foot (twelve foot ceilings) artificial tree every year, but lately my mom's been too busy to and I don't believe in Santa so I see no reason to. It's just too much trouble with it just being the two of us. But for two years we left it up for the entire time and decorated it for each month. It was so much fun. We have to have artificial because if we get a real tree, I swell up like a balloon and my throat closes and I spend Christmas in the hospital.

Fluffsamasprime 11-30-2011 08:47 PM

I have to fight with my boyfriend every year to get a real tree for Christmas. I don't like fake ones, they don't smell the same and I don't want to have to store them.

promised_forever 11-30-2011 09:34 PM

The first part of my life, we had a fake tree. My maternal grandmother gave it to us and all of the branches were removed every year. The branches had paint on the tips of them that coordinated with their position on the tree, but the paint scratched off so it got harder and harder to tell where each branch went.
When we moved to Michigan, my dad threw the tree away (without telling anyone beforehand) and since then he made us go out and get a real tree.
When my parents divorced, my mom got a fake tree again so there's always artifical trees at her house; my dad got a real tree and every year, he gets one (except last year... his new wife made him get a white artifical tree) Not sure if he's going to have a real one or not.
My in-laws have an artifical tree which is a 10 ft. beast of a tree to get up. It's pre-lit and it takes up a ton of space (stored or not)

We live in California now and we have yet to put up a tree, but when we do... it will be fake. That's the type of tree I prefer.

p o p p e t ♥ 11-30-2011 10:44 PM

I love the smell of real trees, but I'm allergic, so we have a fake one. We went to my mother-in-laws to help her put her tree up and within five minutes of it being in the house, I'd already started getting a headache. Even if I didn't have the allergy, I'm not so sure we'd get a real one. I don't like the idea of so many trees being cut down, and they are SO messy, and they don't always end up looking right once you get it up. And most importantly, I can't afford to spend that much on 'disposable' trees in my lifetime, I like not having the extra expense every year. This year for instance, if we didn't already have a fake tree, we wouldn't be putting one up because we can't even afford our bills, much less anything extra. So the assurance that I'll always have a tree for my daughter makes the fake tree worth it too.

Drexy4ever 11-30-2011 11:46 PM

I don't like that people put up their trees so early. Its dumb. But I like fake ones better because they don't shed so there's no mess.

Codette 12-01-2011 12:11 AM

Drexy4ever: At least I'm waiting for Dec. 5th, there are people on my block that have had all their Christmas decorations up since Nov 5th when they took down their Halloween decorations.

Paramedic_Dreamer 12-01-2011 12:39 AM

I prefer artificial, because I'm scared that if I had a real tree, it would go on fire. Somehow.

Nonsensical 12-03-2011 02:05 AM

Usually we put up our tree right after Thanksgiving, but I don't think we'll be putting it up till a week before Christmas. See, my grandma bought a puppy a few months ago and he likes to tear everything apart. Also, the tree is artificial, but I think I prefer real ones. It's been a few years since we've had a real one, though, so~ I might just prefer none at all. XD In fact, I'll probably only have a really small one when I get older.

Q U E E N 12-03-2011 02:43 AM

Well, we usually put up our tree a few weeks before Christmas, and if we're lucky and don't forget about the tree being in our huge living room, we can get it down before summer starts! :XD

Seriously, though, that's how lazy we are.

I prefer artificial trees, because I've got pretty bad experiences from buying fresh Christmas trees.

whitebeast 12-03-2011 03:56 AM

No choice, artificial.

Pine trees... don't grow where we're at.

And last I checked on the ones that do grow in my country...

They're thin, barely dressed (in leaves that is) and very prickly. Doesn't look very cheerful at all.

Artificial all the way.

Though someday I would like to see and decorate a once living or barely alive pine tree for Christmas.

Just so I can say I did so before I go down six feet under. X'D

RoadToGallifrey 12-03-2011 03:03 PM

My Christmas tree goes up every year on the first of December, so this year was no different. (: My tree is an artificial white one, and I tend to prefer artificial trees because they leave less mess than real trees and they're re-usable. (:

Chocolate_Fusion 12-03-2011 05:19 PM

I have an artificial tree up, but I absolutely adore real trees. They may be a hassle and consist of alot of clean up, but they smell amazing, and are always full and beautiful. While the fake trees have so many openings to see the center pole, and you have to sit there for almost an hour pluck and spreading the branches to make it voluminous.

Cat Eye 12-03-2011 05:47 PM

I don't have nor am I putting up a tree, but I prefer the artificial kind.

They come in different colors and they're more than one time use. I am buying nothing that's one time use unless it's cheap.

Pkero 12-03-2011 09:25 PM

My dad raised me to believe that artificial trees are blasphemous in every way. And I agree with him. :P

To me, a huge part of Christmas is walking into the house and smelling pine. Just gets me in the spirit more than anything.

jellysundae 12-03-2011 10:29 PM

I have a 6ft artificial tree, I love it once it's up and decorated, but I don't enjoy putting it up or decorating it because I don't have enough choice of decorations. I think what I might do this year is string fairy lights round my bookshelves instead.

I don't approve of people cutting down trees so they can die for Christmas. But then I don't like cut flowers for the same reason. They both look lovely, but they're dying. Leave them outside growing, or have the living plant indoors.

I love the idea of having a live tree in a pot each year then having somewhere to plant it outside afterwards, so that years down the line you'd have your own little grove of fir trees, that would be wonderful. But how many people have the room to be able to do that? Maybe one day :)
