Khalid helped her out of the water, making sure she was okay.

"Once or twice, a long time ago," she replied, a bit distractedly. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay." Jeane stared out at the water, still looking sort of worried. She was panting, just a little, and she looked up at Khalid.

"What do they look like?"

"When they aren't trying to drown anyone?" Khalid asked, glancing out over the water. "Unfairly attractive. When they're upset or angry, though, they're not so pretty and straying more into the monster-end of the spectrum." Kneeling down, she checked on the cuts on Jeane's ankles. "Come on, we should get you inside and patch these up before you get any sand in them."

Jeane nodded after a moment and got up, making her way inside. "I think I might have pissed one off on accident. And I swear it was an accident." She made a face briefly. She had the worst luck.

Khalid raised an eyebrow.

"What did you do?" she asked.

"I'm not entirely sure." Jeane frowned. "It was a female, and she looked like she was looking for something, but I couldn't tell what." She shrugged. "It's not like she told me or anything. I don't think."

"Well, have you found anything lately that could potentially belong to them?" Khalid asked. It was a fair question; their group had been the only ones on the beach that day.

Jeane shrugged. "I dunno. I picked up a few shells, poked at some sand crabs, found a hair comb a day or two ago..." She blinked at that and paused. Could it really be that simple?

"A comb?" Khalid asked. Yeah, that would do it. "That might be it. Merpeople are known for being viciously possessive of their things. If you picked it up by accident, that might be why you got targeted."

Jeane sighed. Of course. She glanced at Khalid once they got in the elevator so they could decide which room to go to. The comb was in her room, but she didn't want to wake up Cal, either.

Khalid was already weighing the pros and cons of the rooms. Cal was sleeping in one, and she doubted Jeane wanted to bother him, but Robin and Ishiah were in the other, and were both wearing decidedly less clothing than Cal.

"Your room," she said softly. "I'll explain to Cal if he wakes up." More like when he woke up, with how keen his sense of smell was, but he would be easier to ignore than the other two.

Jeane nodded after a moment and pressed the correct button in the elevator. Now her ankles were actually starting to hurt, and she minced her way back to her room and then straight into the bathroom to patch herself up.

Indeed, Cal woke up almost as soon as the two entered the room. And he could immediately smell the blood on Jeane.

"What's going on?" he demanded, getting out of bed.

"Jeane managed to find some merpeople," Khalid replied, leaning against the doorframe that led to the bathroom. "She'll be fine as long as she patches herself up right and rests for a while."

"I can still hear you," Jeane called from the bathroom. She washed her ankles off and then started rummaging around for bandages. "Cal? Where'd we put the thingies?"

Cal almost asked what she was talking about when he realized she must be looking for the bandages.

"Down next to the sink," he called back.

"Thanks." Jeane grabbed the bandages and wrapped her ankles securely after putting antiseptic on them. Hooray for Neosporin. Then she moved back into the other room, starting to shiver a little. Her swimsuit was still wet.

Khalid thought for a moment, and then snapped her fingers. Some of Jeane's things from home appeared for her to change into.

"Here," she said. "Go get comfortable." She ignored the look that Cal sent her that clearly told her what he thought about the djinn taking care of Jeane.

"Thanks." Jeane picked up her comfy clothes and slipped into the bathroom. She rinsed out her hair quickly while she was in there, and came out again drier and huddled into her clothes and fuzzy socks.

"Think I should go return the comb now or later?" She looked at Khalid.

Khalid held out a hand.

"I can take it," she said. "I'm betting one of them is still hanging around, I can probably just toss it into the water and be done with it."

"Okay." Jeane dug in her bag for a moment before pulling out the hair comb and handing it over. "Thanks, Khalid." That made her life easier.

But she still felt bad.

"No problem," Khalid replied, taking the comb and tucking it into a pocket. "Now rest. I'm going to go do the same once I throw this thing back."

"You sure you're going to be resting?" Cal muttered under his breath.

"Don't make me hurt you, Caliban," Khalid deadpanned as she left the room.

Jeane huffed, unsure which one she should be more outraged at. Cal had sort of deserved that, but Khalid didn't have to snap at him like that. With a huff, she decided to be annoyed at both of them.

Cal grumbled under his breath a little more as he sat back down on the bed. He was totally not jealous of Khalid or anything for taking care of Jeane, not at all.

Khalid stormed back outside, only going just far enough into the water that it was up to her ankles, and then she threw the comb as far as she could. Let the merpeople duke it out to see who got to keep it. Once that was done, she made her way back inside. It was past time to snuggle back into bed with Robin and Ishiah.

Jeane looked at him for a few moments before she slipped off her socks and sat next to him, purposely putting her cold foot against his leg.

Robin looked up when Ishiah came back inside and blinked, debating if he should ask now or later. Then he decided later would be better for his health, and he flipped the blanket open so she could get in.

To his credit, Cal didn't jump.

Much.

"What was that for?" he asked.

Khalid took the invitation and slipped back into the bed, snuggling in between the two.

"Jeane has terrible luck when it comes to finding things that belong to other people," she murmured as she did so.
