Whoa, that's a loaded question.
The way this question is worded makes me think you'd like the answer to be "yes"? I think that in good times, that's true, but I don't think it always is. I think real love takes commitment that lasts even when the feelings aren't quite there. Feelings are transitory; they change about as easily as the weather. People sometimes even feel unhappy or happy without knowing why. In relationships, I think there's usually a honeymoon period where everything feels good at first, where you're euphoric all the time, and you enjoy being in each other's company and all of that, and I think that feeling fades a bit the further into the relationship you go. There are always going to be times of euphoria and of intense feelings, but I don't think anyone stays at that point all the time-- I don't think anyone can without going insane. I think people should maybe ask the question, "Does the person I'm with usually make me happy?" But I think a more important question would be, "Is my life better with this person than it is when I am alone?" or "Are the good things I'm getting from a relationship with this person worth more than the cost of being with him or her?" Then again, my dad is an accountant. |
