One on one RP for sailor start rainbow and MintyRey

In a kingdom far away, there lived a wealthy earl and his wife who ruled a prosperous port city. They lived in a castle by the shore and served the king by managing the trades going through the port.
They also had a son who had been raised to follow in the earl's footsteps. It was their hope that when the boy reached an appropriate age, he would inherit his father's title. However, upon the death of the kingdom's heirless king, the earl was crowned as the new ruler since he was the king's brother. The new king and his wife moved to the castle soon after the coronation, but their son chose to stay behind and continue to oversee the port city's businesses.

A few years have passed since then and the prince was now reaching his 20th birthday. Despite being of marriageable age, the young man had yet to present his parents with a potential daughter-in-law as he was always busy with work. This worried his parents so they decided to hold a ball on his birthday. It would be held at the port city so that the prince might have a day off from his duties. They announced that any eligible, unmarried maiden would be allowed to attend.

Word spread fast about the ball, not just on land, but also beneath the sea. Soon the news of the party reached the kingdom of the Merpeople. While many found no interest in the land-dwellers' event, one mermaid found that she could not get the thought of the party out of her head

As far as I can remember, things have been like this: Once Lucas' father became the new king, he received the title of prince. Still, Lucas chose not to retire to a life of luxury that often came with being a prince. Taking up his parents' former duties, he ensured that the port city continued to flourish. He kept himself busy with running the town, almost to the point where he didn't have a proper social life for someone of his age. However, he was never lonely. Three years ago, he found that someone would leave him a present on the sand bar near his home. Lucas never found out who it was. No matter how many nights he'd try to see who the mystery gift-giver was, the prince would always fall asleep. The day's work left him too tired to stay up. Eventually, Lucas had to be content with just waking up early enough to pick up his gift before anybody else can. But he did not forget to leave a gift in the same spot every night in exchange. He did not want to seem ungrateful, after all.

Maria had heard about a party was going to be held for the Prince. she had fallen in love with right now. she is in her bedroom looking at the gifts he had gave her. the teenager was happy her parents let her. keep the stuff he had gave her over the past few years yet wanted. to try go to his party but would have. to ask her grand mother how to use her powers turn in to a human girl. the hole highwaters family members have the power to change in to a human.

The mermaid is all ready consider a adult by merfolk rules. yet she knows her uncle lives on land form her mom's side of the family. he had help a elderly merfolk as a young man saving a old lady. form some fishing nets so he gave her uncle a choice for helping him out. become human and able comeback to the sea once every full moon. so she has half human cousins that live in the port city. so she would be able to barrow a dress form her cousin how is the same age as her.

MintyRey 01-19-2012 02:37 PM

Lucas stared outside his window and down at the familiar sandbar by the beach nearby. It was already morning and the waves often begin creeping up the shoreline at this time. A trail of footprints on the sand had already been partially erased from the the slow-rising tide. The sun was already clear over the horizon and usually Lucas would be found at work in town at this time. But today was a special day. It was his birthday. By his parents' royal decree, all businesses will be closed in honor of it, save for the local shops and inns. The market would be open only until noon since preparations for tonight's ball would begin at that time.

It was strange for the prince to not have anything to do. He already had his clothes for the party ready. The gold and white mask that went with his suit sat on the table by his wardrobe. All he could do, he supposed, was wait until nightfall. Lucas sighed as he shifted his gaze from the sandbar to the sea's horizon. In his hand was a wooden box, a light blue ribbon wrapped around it. It was the most recent gift he had retrieved from the sandbar, one of many he had found over the past few years. Odd as it was, he has yet to uncover the identity of who leaves them there. The gifts were usually foreign to him. He rarely saw anything like them in the kingdom, nor anything similar from the imported goods going through the port. They were all wonderful, however. Their designs have included shells, pearls, corals, bright scale patterns, waves, and many things relating to the ocean. Perhaps his mysterious friend loved the sea as much as he did?

As thanks, Lucas would leave a gift on the sandbar as well. The most recent he had left was a glass music box. Miniature, clockwork horses would dance around within it whenever it was played. The prince was picky with what he wanted to give. Nothing but the rarest or most novel objects from distant lands that he could obtain. Still, he felt they could not compare to what he receives. He only hopes that his friend would like them.

While Lucas had made it his personal tradition to open all encased gifts as soon as he brings them in from the beach, he has yet to open this one. His curiosity towards what was inside has grown considerably since he picked it up, but he felt that perhaps this time he would save it for after the party. The best for last, as they say.

'Perhaps I'll go out for a while. There might be something I can keep myself occupied with at the docks.', he thought. Gently setting his present beside the mask, Lucas walked out of his room and went downstairs. A while later, he was making his way to town on horseback.

sailor star rainbow 01-20-2012 08:44 AM

The teen-aged mermaid play's with the glass music box. till it finish playing the pretty music then swim's off quickly. she swim out of her bedroom then off to find her grand mother Umi. how is the oldest livening female mermaid in her family. Maria knew she is form her fathers side of the family. once she finds her grand mother she smile swimming over to her as fast as she can. "Maria slow down dear I can see you are excited today." Umi says to her grand daughter in a happy voice. a smile on her face she has light blue hair and deep blue eyes. "Grand Mother please tell me how I can. tap in to my powers turn in to a human just for today and for tonight." Maria ask her grand mother in a sweet, kind yet polite voice.

The older mermaid female laughs softly but smiles the hole time. "It is quite easy to do really Maria. all you have to do is swim till you find a sea cave. make sure no humans are around first. then look deep in to your heart with your eye's closed after a few minutes. your tail should be gone you'll have a make shift dress on. I bet you talk to your cousin about this. but remember my dear if you eat any fish you can not come back to the sea ever again." Umi says to her grand daughter knowing. how hard it must be for the girl to be in love with a human how. may are may not love her back at all. "Thank you Grand Mother Umi I'm going now. please don't wait up for me tonight I'll be home late please let my parents know. good bye I love you all." she says then start's to swim off to head for a sunken ship.

Maria wanted to find a new gift for the prince's birthday. yet had a bag in her hands so she can use her own jewelry and hair items in her hair. for tonight ball for his birthday party. the teen had gave her cousin's ton's of money form the sunken ships she had. been in before hopefully her cousin's still kept some of that. rare lovely silk she had found 5years ago. she only ask they keep enough of it to make a dress out of it for her. to ware to a fancy party such as a human ball this would not. be her first time as a human she became a human many times before as a child. but never as merfolk adult hopefully she did not blossom to much.

MintyRey 01-21-2012 04:32 AM

Lucas was surprised at how many people he saw moving through the city. Despite it being a business holiday, many people were still buzzing about, doing last minute shopping or getting the streets and plaza cleared up for the party. It became obvious to him that getting around on his horse would be difficult with the crowded streets. So, he left his steed at a nearby stable and journeyed the rest of the way on foot. People who knew him would greet him a happy birthday as he passed, shaking his hand when they can and even hinting that they would be sending him this or that as a present later at the ball. He thanked them appreciatively, grateful that no one had opted to give him gifts then and there. He would end up carrying them all throughout his walk, unless he turned around and dropped them off at home. That would most likely leave him out of breath by the time night fell.

Eventually, Lucas reached the docks. Groups of ships were still coming in, not to deliver supplies and merchandise, but to drop off guests attending the event. Lucas recognized a few of the incoming attendees as members of the nobility in neighboring kingdoms. But plenty were unfamiliar faces. Avoiding catching the eye of anyone who would know him, the prince slipped away towards the far end of the coastline. There, by an old, barnacle and seaweed encrusted pier was a pram. The small boat was still in good condition despite being a few years old. This was Lucas' secret, personal ship. He'd often take it as far out to sea as he could, or as far around the country's shores as he could.

Today he would ride out towards the reef. It's been a while since he last visited this colorful patch of coral. Not many large ships pass over it nowadays because it had grown in size, making the waters too shallow. But smaller boats could still float by unscathed. He planned on staying there a while. It was a good place to think.

sailor star rainbow 01-21-2012 04:53 AM

By now Maria was done in the sunken ship and swim's up to colorful patch of coral. her cousin's were waiting for her past it. a sea cave was near by a old pier they had all ways. seen a ship there but never knew how go's on it at all. so they kept away form it all when they are mermaids. she notice the boat while trying to swim by the patch of coral. hoping no humans were around at all. but wonder if her cousins would bring her something to ware before the ball tonight? Maria wish there was a reef around here but sadly there is no reef.

MintyRey 01-21-2012 06:44 AM

"Huh? Where's the other one?"

Just as he was about to push the pram into deeper water, Lucas noticed that one of the oars was missing. He would always place the two wooden paddles under the seats of the boat after every ride so it couldn't have just fallen out. Someone might have taken it. Perhaps one of the children from town to use in their games, or a fisherman who needed a spare oar. Whatever the case was, Lucas won't be able to steer properly without another oar. He searched around the area first. If kids really did take it, they might have abandoned it nearby if they lost interest in it. However, instead of finding the missing scull, Lucas discovered tracks in the sand leading all the way down to a large rock formation. The landmark was well known as a sea cave, but hardly anyone from town ventures into it because it's almost always filled with water. Unless you were part fish, the area was inaccessible.

Even Lucas, who knew how to swim, could do nothing but stop at where the footprints ended. Despite wanting to know why there were no tracks coming back from the rock formation, going any further would mean potentially getting pulled down in an undertow and drowning. All he could do was hope that whoever made those footprints merely climbed over the rocks, and not into the cave. As he began to turn back to the pram, his amber eyes spotted something bright on the sands, almost about to be pulled away by the waves. It was a silk ribbon, much like the ribbon wrapped around the secretive box on his bedroom table. Except this one had an intricate pattern on it and looked like it could be part of a dress.

Although Lucas had no real need of it, the prince had an odd feeling that he should keep it. Maybe he would find some use for it later. After wringing the ribbon dry and pocketing it, Lucas returned to the harbor to see if he could find a replacement oar.

sailor star rainbow 01-21-2012 07:38 AM

Maria by now had gotten to the sea cave but had lost a ribbon. she had warp around her arm for safe keeping at lest she still had her hair ribbon on. her cousins Runa and Flora had brought her a sundress to ware. they had help pulled her out of the rock formation the 3 of them. run's off quickly before the prince would come back. "You are lucky you did not get stuck Maria. let walk around the harbor for a while before we had to are home." Runa says while Flora keeps quite knowing. they would be going to the ball tonight she is to young to go.

"Sure why not but can we stop at a local shop I want to find. a box for the gift I found in that old ship I can't wait to meet the prince." Maria says while twirling around in the sun dress. the ribbon in hair look's like the one she drop in the sand.

MintyRey 01-30-2012 06:00 AM

Although he intended to find an extra oar, Lucas ended up supervising the departure of two merchant ships. He wasn't supposed to be working at all and the port officials even tried to dissuade him from assisting them. Nevertheless, the prince went over the paperwork of the departure. Once he was satisfied with the documents, he handed them back to the officials and went on his way. "What was I looking for again?", he wondered aloud before remembering.

Surely he could find another in one of the shops that dotted the harbor. After checking out two, three, and finally five shops, Lucas started feeling that maybe he wasn't looking in the right place. But in the sixth shop, he spotted the familiar rowing tools all lined up against one wall of the store. He went in and took his time choosing which to get. He picked up a few to test their weight and feel. 'I'm pretty sure it's in this style...'

sailor star rainbow 01-30-2012 09:51 AM

Maria,Rune and Flora was in one of the shop's trying to buy a few things. before noon hits since that's when the shop's would close. get ready for the prince's ball tonight Runa and Maria were going. they both had no boyfriends at all as well right age to be married off. both girl's wanted to buy the prince a birthday gift so far. Rune found something but not Maria hopefully. he would like the gift she had left for him on the sand bar. what was in the wooden box is a old pocket watch with a few sea shell's around it. both girl's bought mask to ware for the ball Flora pick out a flower print one. while Maria pick out a plain one to decorate with sea shell's,coral and other things for the sea.

Runa en Flora kept a lot of sea related things in there home. yet had somethings Maria had given them as gifts. they pick out things form the sea when they could go visit family on full moon's. there mother is just a normal human she must wait for her husband and daughter's. come back to land when they are away in the sea. yet was all ways happy to see family form the sea come visit them.

MintyRey 05-30-2012 12:29 PM

It was already time for the ball and almost every corner of the castle was filled with music. Most of the townspeople and foreign guests walked the halls, excitedly talking about how lovely the decorations for the event were. Stories were swapped while drinks and hors d' oeuvers were handed out to all who awaited the main feast. The hosts of the party, in the meantime, took up their stations at the great ballroom. Their majesties, King Kenneth and Queen Beatrice, busied themselves with greeting all who arrived. The prince, too, welcomed all who came to wish him well. Because this party was a masquerade, everyone had a mask with them though most decided not to put them on yet, especially those whose masks were a little more fancy. They hope to prevent the intricate, yet cumbersome, accessories from getting damaged right away and preferred to save it for the dance.

"And thank you for the...ummm...", Lucas looked quizzically at the exotic creature, unsure of what exactly the feather duster-looking thing was.

"It's called a bird-of-paradise.", the elder man said, beaming to himself at having caught such a prize. "It was one of many that got caught in my net when I was on an expedition to the far West. Pity I never found what I was truly looking for. A golden parrot, very rare indeed. Well, she's yours now, Prince. And I wish you the best. With all these lovely ladies, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a hard time finding only one wife."

"Err, thank you again, Sir Baten. I'll take great care of your lovely gift." With that the two gentlemen shook hands. Sir Baten walked off to rejoin his wife whose costume looked just as covered in plumage as the fowl. Handing the gift-bird over to a servant to place with the other gifts. After greeting a few more guests and accepting a couple more gifts, Lucas decided to walk over to the balcony for some fresh air. The sun was just almost completely below the horizon now, painting the sky with red, orange, and purple. Sighing, he leaned over the balustrade. Sir Baten was right. With so many lovely ladies, how was he supposed to choose a wife from all of them?

Was he to judge them by personality? Physical appearance? Wit? Talent? Wealth? Lineage? And if so what would be best? Heaven forbid his parents choose for him! Who knows who he'll end up with?

A servant passed by at that moment to offer him some refreshments. Lucas settled for just a drink and turned to look back at the lively ballroom. It was then that he spotted a familiar face in a small group of girls. It was the Princess Phoebe. She was a childhood friend of Lucas. They were almost inseperable when they were kids though nowadays they didn't see much of each other due to having to deal with their royal duties.

'Perhaps it would't be so bad if we got married...', he thought. However he had never envisioned himself with her as a lover, even though they were pretty close. Maybe it was because she could be pushy sometimes. Pheobe was happiest whenever she got her way. She was very particular with how her orders were to be carried out and dark rumors have sprung up recently about how anyone who displeased her would meet unfortunate accidents. But Lucas dismissed those rumors as mere slander to tarnish her family's name. In all the years he's known her, not once has he seen her hurt anybody. The happy and boisterous group of friends around her seemed like further proof of her innocence. They all wore bright, flashy colors, something that Pheobe has often voiced her dislike of. The princess felt they were too childish for young women to wear and that darker tones were more appropriate. She herself wore a lovely black and emerald dress for the occasion. Yet there she was in the midst of them, laughing and socializing with people who weren't wearing what she wanted them to wear. Of course, he knew that she probably
wanted to chide them for their tawdry fashion sense so badly. It looks like she may have learned a little self control and tolerance.

Lucas decided to walk over to say hello. However, after a few steps he was intercepted by his dear Aunt Metis who quickly began interrogating him about his health, social life, manners, and whether or not he was going to come visit over the summer. When the one sided conversation ended minutes later, Pheobe had disappeared into the crowd. With a sigh of relief that he was free to once more do as he pleased, Lucas walked over to the buffet table to get another drink.

sailor star rainbow 05-31-2012 04:23 AM

Maria walks around the ball room yet walks over to the buffet table. she wanted to get something to drink for now. she is in along sea blue dress with sea shell's and coral on it the dress is made out of rare silk. the teenager wore had a ribbon tide in her hair like the one she lost earlier in the day. she wore jewelry she had brought form home with her on her arms and neck mostly. a rare blue pearl necklace around her neck and a shall around her arms. ((the shall in the pic is the one she is using right now))

Runa wore a soft seen green dress that is selves less. she holds on to the gift Flora and her self pick out for the prince. right now she was talking with some friends a few feet away form the buffet table. but kept a close eye on Maria knowing her cousin was in love with the prince.

Flora is wearing a coral pink dress with a few sea flowers on it. they were made of fabric so they were not real ones. real sea flower's would not last long with out water at all. they would die with in a few hours of being out of salt water.

MintyRey 05-31-2012 04:59 AM

"Hm? Oh excuse me!", Lucas apologized once he saw that someone else was waiting to get a drink from the table. The girl who had just approached was wearing an exquisite azure dress. The jewelry she donned were intricate and marine in nature, but their designs didn't seem to have originated from this port or any country he was familiar with. "Did you want a beverage as well?", he asked, picking up a full glass of punch and handing it to her.

"Say, I don't believe I've seen you around before. You're from another country, aren't you?", he asked with a smile.

In the meantime, the king and queen had finally finished saying hello to all the attendees and were getting everything ready for the start of the dance and the beginning of dinner. Servants hustled about to get the tables and finish the final touches for the food. The musicians started filing into the ballroom and setting their equipment up on the great stage at the front.

sailor star rainbow 05-31-2012 05:31 AM

"Yes I am I'm here visiting some family members right now. oh here if a gift I hope you like it Prince." Maria says to the prince but wish she knew his first name. she hold's out a gift in a okay sized box with some ribbon warp around it. the ribbon look like the same kind that he had found on the beach.

MintyRey 05-31-2012 06:50 AM

"Thank you very much!", Lucas said, accepting the gift gratefully. He noted the ribbon on around it and how it looked similar to one he had found earlier that afternoon. He dismissed it as mere coincidence for the time being. "I suppose I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Lucas Wynyard. A pleasure to meet you."

Afterwards, he gently took her free hand and brought it to his lips. "And who might you be, lovely miss?"

Already seated at one table, Phoebe looked around everyone in the great room moving about. Her sharp, discerning eyes seemed to lock onto every lady attending the event as she judged them by their outward appearance. "Too scrawny. Too stout. Too gaudy. Too drab. Too...ew..."

This 'party' was quickly becoming a bore for her. Everyone was playing nice with each other and with the commoners. It sickened her. What was even worse was that she had to 'play nice' as well with the young women around her age. She knew that making social ties with those in well known families would be of great help to her. Friends in high places, as they say, always gave advantage to those seeking power. Still, commoners mingling with royalty? And even worse, those who were descended from great lineages but whose family influence had declined? How dare they show their faces here? Shameful! And why should she have to waste her time with them?

If only she was free from being under her parents supervision, what ambitious things she could fulfill!
But coming to this masquerade wasn't completely bad. At least she'll be able to see her darling Lucas again. "Now where is he? I thought I saw him earlier by the stairs when I came in..."
Squinting in an attempt to see past people farthest from her, Phoebe finally spotted a familiar red head by the long table with drinks. But what was this? 'Who's that with him?', she wondered to herself as soon as she spotted the girl with long, snow colored hair next to him. 'Hmph. What a terrible color she's wearing! A dark blue would've been much more appropriate. Rags might be even better!'

A sinister smirk appeared on her lips after her latest thought. 'Why does this...nobody get to be so chummy with my Lucas?! Who does she think she is?!' Phoebe did not recognize her face from any of the princesses of the countries she's been to. And she knew a lot of the important families. Because she didn't know her, she just assumed she was a commoner who got lucky for getting an invite. 'I suppose she isn't worth the worry then. The lower class have no place being with the royalty such as ourselves.'

But in truth, Phoebe was secretly envious of the girl. She was fairer in appearance than most, and had a noble grace about her. She could be a potential threat to her plans.

sailor star rainbow 05-31-2012 07:06 AM

Maria blush when he took the gift form her yet had to lie about. being form a other country most humans don't believe in merpeople. these days if she were to say oh I am the one how has left you. those gifts on the beach,I'm a mermaid how is in love with you. she keeps that thought form being said. "It is nice to meet you Prince Lucas I am Maria Highwaters the niece of lord Highwaters and his wife. it is a honor to meet you kind sir." she says while being polite to him knowing her uncle en aunt came. to the party but knew the highwaters family on land be came noble people for some reason.

MintyRey 05-31-2012 07:47 AM

"Ah, I see.", Lucas replied. He tried to recall if the prominent Highwaters family ever mentioned a niece named Maria. Or if he ever saw her at the nobles' house when he visited on business. The red-head felt slightly embarrassed at not being able to remember though he was sure he'd be able to remember a pretty face such as hers. "I hope you enjoy your stay here at Arlia and that you have a wonderful time during the ball."

At that time, King Kenneth stood up on the stage and announced the start of the dance. "Ladies and gentlemen! It is with great pleasure that I declare a wonderful 20th birthday to my son, Prince Lucas Wynyard!" He paused to allow the guests to applaud the young man as they turned to face him. Continuing, the king said, "In honor of this great event we have decided to host a grand masquerade! Now let the dance begin!!!"

At that moment, sweet yet upbeat music began playing. Those without masks began to put theirs on and those who were already wearing them began crossing the ballroom to meet with their dance partners. Prince Lucas, however, was required to dance with all the noblewomen his parents had invited for the purpose of possibly hooking him up with them. But the young man did not mind it so much. In fact, why didn't he start with the one closest to him?

Slipping on his gold and white mask, he extended a hand to Maria. "My honorable lady, may I have this dance?", he asked with a courteous grin.

sailor star rainbow 05-31-2012 07:57 AM

"Yes of course I'll dance with you I would be delighted two." Maria says to Prince Lucas as she quickly puts her mask on. then puts one of her hands in to his free open hand. she was so happy right now at long last she got to know her beloved's name. if only there was a way to tell him the truth about her being a mermaid. what would he say if he knew a mermaid had fallen in love with him. was crazy enough come to his birthday party with her cousins, aunt and uncle?

Flora and Runa dance with other gentlemen yet were happy. to see Maria getting to dance with prince Lucas. they hope to find them self's husbands someday. but for now they would dance till dinner would be severed to all of the guest. they hope no fish would be on the menu tonight. there grand mother Umi wander all them not to eat any fish just like with Maria. if so they would not be able turn in to a mermaid ever again if they eat any fish.

MintyRey 06-01-2012 04:47 AM

As Lucas and Maria gracefully danced, they moved closer and closer to the center of the dance floor. Other guests merrily danced around them as well, but the attention was mostly on the prince and his mystery companion. The melody the musicians played seemed perfect for them as they swayed, turned, and spun in time with the tune. Many of the other women who were waiting their turn began growing a little jealous of the young lady Highwater, how she was the first to be in the charming royal's arms. But they could not deny that the two seemed a very good match as shimmering sea blue twirled with gold and white.
The only one who would disagree was Phoebe, who was becoming even more annoyed with the lithe girl.

Lucas wished he could dance with Maria a little longer. But once the music changes, he would have to give the other maidens their turn. Otherwise it would be unfair. Still, he felt reluctant to leave her side. Pulling her closer, he whispered in her ear, "Dear madame, I must apologize but I will need to dance with someone else soon. I would, however, love to have a chance to talk to you later. May I see you again after dinner?" Smiling, he spun her once more as he awaited her reply.

sailor star rainbow 06-01-2012 06:02 AM

Maria had fun dancing with Prince Lucas but wish it did not have to end. yet was happy to be dancing with him any way. she was happy her cousins teach her how to dance when they were younger. "I understand that you have to dance with the other girls. yes you may see me after dinner I hope no fish is on the menu." she say to the prince not knowing if the dinner would have fish. if so she would just not touch the fish at all.

"I look forward to it then.", said Lucas. I would be another minute before the song changed. Afterwards, Lucas bowed to the fair maiden and thanked her for the first dance. "It was a pleasure dancing with you, Maria Highwaters."

As soon as the silvery blonde haired girl would step away from the prince, Pheobe began moving towards Lucas. She would not let anyone else have a turn until she did, snatching second place away from the others in the roster of the prince's dancing partners. The calm look on her face belied her fierce determination. She would even smile cordially at Maria if she looked her way.

While those who chose to display their dancing skills did so, those who decided to stay off the crowded dance floor for now were helping themselves to an early dinner. The food choices were wide and varied as no expenses were spared in the planning of the feast. Different kinds of recipes were cooked up to satisfy the tastes of those guests from foreign lands. As they were a port town, fish was the most common meat. However, there was also beef, pork, chicken, deer, lamb, rabbit, duck, and pheasant. Vegetables, and even fruit, were all included in the entrees.

"Hello Lucas. Have you been well?", Phoebe asked, curtsying elegantly once the next theme was played.

"It's always a pleasure to see you again, Princess.", Lucas replied, bowing to her in turn. Together they danced, synchronized in movement thanks to their shared past. "I'm alright. As busy with work as I've been last year. At least there haven't been as many storms as there were last Spring. How about you? I've heard you declined a proposal for marriage."

"Yes. Prince Dylan just wasn't my type. I much rather prefer someone like you~" At this, Phoebe moved up really close to Lucas, as if to steal a kiss. Then she took two steps back while their hands remained clasped together as part of the dance. A mischievous grin appeared on her face. The prince merely smiled back. He was already used to her teasings.

Once more the song ended and once more did the prince and his dance partner part ways. None of the other women dared make a step towards Lucas until Phoebe had reached her table, which was just how she liked it. For another half-hour, Lucas remained on the dance floor. Each maiden he ended up with was very knowledgeable and skilled at dancing, no matter what their background. However, Lucas found that none of them could outshine Maria in terms of skill. When all was finally said and done, the prince joined his parents at the main dinner table where all of the Wynyard royal family members sat. Though a grand conversation was abuzz, Lucas couldn't help but glance over at the Highwaters' table every now and again. More importantly, he could not stop thinking of Maria.
