Soon after their lips parted, Lucas asked Maria to meet him on the beach behind the castle. He had to do something first and assured her he would not take long. Reluctantly he left her side and headed towards the castle doors. Eventually the prince's form disappeared into the throng of people passing to and fro through the great entrance.
With great haste, Prince Lucas rushed up the daunting three flights of stairs and made his way straight for a familiar and well guarded section of the castle. He neither slowed down to speak to anyone, even puzzled relatives, on the way there nor moderated his descent of the steps after he had left the room. For only one thing was on Lucas' mind. A thought that fueled his nearly frenzied rush to the castle beach where he hoped Maria would be waiting. After a long twenty and a half minutes of speedily traversing his stone home's interior, Lucas finally walked through the small back door of the castle that led to the beach. In his hand he clutched something tightly. |
Maria walks off in a hurry to the beach trying not to get wet. she knew her horrible luck with shell fish. would get her wet even if she dose not want to at times. once getting to the beach she sits down on the sand quietly. waiting for Prince Lucas to come she look's up at the moon light sky sighing softly. today had been a great had for the mermaid she blush thinking. about the kiss they had between each other yet wonder. if the princess and Emily ever notice they where gone are not?
If so she bet that princess was angry with them by now. yet she would need head home to get some sleep. Maria wonder if her parents where still up? hunting for some fresh food to eat. they sometimes go out late at night to late night markets. |
Though night had already set in, the gentle light from the moon and its companion stars provided ample visibility. But Lucas was not interested in gazing up at the sky. The prince preferred to search for the lady of the sea instead, the only light in his eyes.
The red-head walked over to the waiting mermaid who sat patiently by the shore. Waves calmly flowed over the sands for a few inches before returning to the sea. The soothing sound of the waters filled the air. "I apologize for making you wait, Maria." Lucas said once he reached her. Then, extending his free hand for her to take, he asked "Would you like to come with me for a moment?" If she agreed, he would bring her over to the sand bar at the exact spot where they had left each other presents over the years. Now that he had stopped running, Lucas was able to ease the grip on what he held in his other hand. |
"It is all right and sure I will come with you Lucas." Maria says to her prince as she slowly. starts to get up off of the sand form sitting down on it for only a few minutes. a happy smile on her face to him yet brush some sand off the dress she has on.

Glad that she agreed, Lucas walks by her side towards the sandbar. Once they reached the place, the prince turned to face Maria. A slight nervousness had fluttered in his stomach for a moment but was soon replaced with a feeling of thrill. The youth took deep breath and smiled. His hazel eyes rested on her lively green eyes before he quietly dropped to one knee.
The the prince held up what he had hastily brought with him from the royal treasury. It was a gold ring, lined with small sapphires on its outer side. The main stones it touted were six Marquise diamonds lined side by side in array that seemed to form a shape of a crown. Each diamond represented a region of the country Arlia was but a part of. While the outside of the ring glittered with the gemstones, the inside shimmered with ancient runes carved into the golden band. This ring had been handed down the Wynyard family for generations. While couples who would marry into the Wynyard Royal House had the freedom to have wedding rings of their choice for their ceremonies, it was a tradition that the bride would wear the Wynyard ring along with her own wedding ring when the vows were said. Maria was trying to stand still on the sandbar knowing it was around a lot of water. she notice Lucas was a bit nervous for some reason. "Oh my goodness oh Prince Lucas Yes I'll marry you." she says to her prince while starting to cry tears of joy. the mermaid could not believe her luck right now she had been ask. by the man she loves to marry him so suddenly like this. she gasp when she saw the lovely ring when he had opened the ring box.
She could not wait to tell her parents the good news. she was going to marry Lucas that mean. she would become a princess once she marry's him. but right now Maria was happy as can be with him. she hope her family would be happy for her. but hope his own parents would be pleased with such good news. yet she wonder if they would get married in the next few days are in a few months? where would the wedding be held at? so many questions where running around in her head. |
As soon as he heard his beloved's reply, Prince Lucas instantly lifted Maria up and spun around with her before kissing her again just as passionately as he had done on their way to the castle. Great happiness filled him just as much as Maria and he could not keep a jubilant smile off his face. Then the prince took the mermaid's left hand and gently slipped the Wynyard ring onto her delicate ring finger. Eventually he would inform the King and Queen of his decision; That from all the women who had answered the invitation to the grand ball, he felt she was the only one for him.
After that he would have to visit Maria's parents to let them know of their engagement, as was the custom in their country. During that visit, Maria's parents would have a chance to object to the engagement if they so choose. But if everything goes well and they bless the couple, the next step would be the wedding which could be held as soon as the following week or the following month, depending on the bride-to-be's decision on the matter. |
The young mermaid woman blush yet could still feel tears of joy. running down her cheek's softly yet was glad tear's. can't touch her legs unless she is sitting down. not knowing if tears could turn her legs back in to a tail. "Should we go tell your parents the good news? I can ask my parents as well my grand mother and twin brothers to come up for a visit. besides Mother want's to come visit the family here on land any way lately." Maria says to Lucas but hope he like her idea about. telling his parents her uncle as well her family on land would find out.
About this soon enough once she get's her parents come up on to land. but oh she forgot she need to get that bag form her uncle's house. to bring the herbs home with out them floating away in the ocean. right now she felt like the luckyst person in the hole world to being able to marry him. |
"Yes! Absolutely!" Lucas replied, "And I would be honored to welcome your family to Arlia. We should also let your parents know, after all." With great care, the prince wiped away one of the tears that descended down Maria's face. Then Lucas leaned in close to kiss Maria on her fair forehead and brushed a stray lock of the mermaid's pale golden hair behind her ear. "Would you like to let my parents know now or would you like to wait until later? I know we've been walking around town for most of the day and I don't want you to walk another step until you feel rested." Lucas worried for Maria and was ready to carry her if she wished.
Inside the castle, dinner was already being served. While the prince's parents wondered where their son might be, they were not entirely worried. The guests at the table were markedly less in number now since many had left for their homelands during the afternoon. Only a few close relatives of the royal family, on both the king's and queen's side, remained. Mos stayed because they could afford to. Others stayed because their ships, caravans or carriages were not due to leave until the next day. Lucas' cousin, Collin, was used to the drastic decrease in guests that happened after every grand event. In fact, he had half-expected everyone to have left by now, including him. But what he was most surprised to find was that among the guests who remained was a familiar bossy princess whose mood was darker than he had ever seen. |
"Lets go tell your parents now and oh my it's so late all ready. I did not notice the time past by so quickly for us. I'll bring my parents to land in a fee day's so they can meet you as well your parents." yet her voice was a bit soft sounding since. Maria felt a bit tried form walking all day long. yet hope she could head home with out any problem's.
"Could you carry me? I feel a bit tried form walking around all day. but I wish to let your parent's know about are good news still. it's only fair but how will they expect a mermaid as a daughter in law to be?" Maria ask her Lover while by now wanting to sit down any where. maybe have some dinner before heading on home back to her parents. |
In a matter of moments, the red-head scooped up the Lady Highwater into his arms so that not even her dress would touch the ground. "Certainly." he said, "And..., if you, well, feel too tired to do so...I wouldn't mind if you waited until tomorrow to return home. If you wanted to stay the night, we have more than enough rooms to spare in the castle." Lucas suggested as he carried her over the beach and towards the looming, stone home. A bright blush was now settled on his face. It took him more strength to hint at his desire for her to stay the night than it did for him to lift her light frame. Of course, he wouldn't force her to stay if she truly wanted to return home that evening. He would always see Maria again as she had said she would bring her parents, grandmother, and brothers to Arlia.
"As for my parents and you being a mermaid..." Lucas began, "We'll just cross that bridge when we get there!" The prince could not help but laugh after that. It was uncharacteristic of him to be that carefree about a matter such as this but he currently could not care nor think straight. Not when he was with his lovely Maria, anyway. "Don't worry though. I'm sure they'll be thrilled by you being their daughter-in-law all the same." |
Maria blush's yet warps her arms around Prince Lucas neck. yet gasp softly when he said tell his parents when the get there. "But Lucas you don't understand Love if you don't. think it out straight before we tell your parents if you don't there. will be a lot of explaining to do if we are to ever have are own children." Lady high waters says to the prince trying to get him to think. she was thinking about his idea about spending the night at the castle. if she where to do so Maria would worrier her parents greatly not coming home.
"I don't think it's a good idea for me to stay the night here. my parents they would worrier about me greatly. if I do not go back home to them my Father. mighty come on to land to look for me he has all ways. worried about a human finding me to try sell me off to someone." she explains to him but Maria could take a nap at least before she heads home. maybe grab a bite to eat as well it was supper time after all. the young adult mermaid wonder if there was a way to make her human legs. form turning back in to her tail know humans take bath's to keep clean. |
The crimson haired prince stopped walking and listened as Maria spoke. Once she was done, he tilted his head so as to rest his forehead on hers. He closed his eyes as he considered her words. She was right. They should find a way or time to tell his parents about Maria being a mermaid and not just to wait until after the marriage. "Alright. I think we could try letting my parents know more about you after we've told both my parents and your parents about our wish to get married." The prince then continued on into the castle.
Inside, the castle workers had busied themselves with cleaning up the rooms and preparing the dinner for the royal family. Most of the guests who stayed for breakfast had already left by the afternoon. Only a handful of relatives chose to remain for another day. "I really wish you could stay the night but I understand if you need to return. I wouldn't want to cause trouble for your parents. Especially not your father, haha." Lucas said. It would not be a good idea to get on her family's bad side if he wanted their blessing to marry Maria. "But I'm glad that you can at least stay for dinner. And feel free to choose whichever guest room you want." |
"Sounds like a good idea to me Lucas." Maria says to her Lover in a happy yet soft spoken voice. once they where inside of the castle wondering what kind of food's they would have for dinner? she hope nothing with fish if so maybe she could ask. for some chicken are some type of meat instead. if that would not be much trouble for cooks are for the people at the table. "I to am also happy I can stay for dinner at least. but what would you say if I'd wish to take a nap with you?" she ask the prince thinking about her question before hand. knowing it not a good idea to have a unwed couple sleeping with each other. but a nap could not hurt right?
