I might be able to get in to the club printers at my school... I'm not sure. But I do know that my school charges five cents a page for all student printing now. *hangs head* I would totally print things out otherwise.

hummy 01-28-2012 06:34 PM

wow, lots of lurkers.
Hadsie will you please tell Kent, i didn't wanna ping since i saw you in the thread, sweetie.

Apricot 01-28-2012 06:37 PM

 A lot of lurkers, indeed.

You know, I think us users should have a competition to see who can drum up the most traffic. :) I would gladly give up a few items, if it meant getting people motivated to do something.

EDIT:

D: I'm a thread-killer!

jellysundae 01-28-2012 07:06 PM

Yeah, printing posters and flyers is one of the things we've been thinking about. I have an ongoing Yan campaign in mind that will use the same principal :ninja:

Yan posters would be amazing! People will look at Yan and go, "WTF is that!? Let me check this out" XD

fairywaif 01-28-2012 07:25 PM

I'm a little sad we won't have Valentine's but... I might not be able to get on then anyways. I'll definitely try recruiting people though! Especially my new college friends?

Suggestions that don't require coding... We seem to have a lot of older users, more than some of the other sites. A lot of them are college age or older, I believe. Or maybe that's just from my experience. We might want to do somtheing that would draw in more young users and appeals to those college age and older? *flails* That's not really a suggestion, but I'll think about it.

Paprika 01-28-2012 07:52 PM

People can also take it upon themselves to use staff-approved poster art to post the website...on posters/flyers in internet cafes, possibly outside of other "nerdy" areas like bookstores and collectable shops.

Basically something like a picture with the word MENEWSHA! somewhere on it and an easy to read website address, or one of those poster sheets that has the tear away strips at the bottom with the website address on it.

that is if we get site-approved art for said posters. :)

----------

I guess the poster should be big enough to see important information as to what Menewsha is, but small enough that its easy to put up in places.

Hell you could even slap it on telephone boards or those boards at universities/grocery stores that people post up babysitting services and the like on.

----------

Also thank you for making the referral banners/links easy to see in the thread! I totally didn't know we had that.

hummy 01-28-2012 08:03 PM

lol, you're not a thread killer, Apricot.
but we did scare the lurkers away.
:P

GaiaOnline was the most successful avatar community because it was first. I think Mene comes in second and beats out all the other ones, because of its quality and innovative ideas. But in order for it to become more successful, I think we need to fix up the community/content.

When I think about the other forums that I visit, they don't have any avatars or collectible items. I go there because of the discussions. That's something that Mene just doesn't have... every time I try to have a decent conversation or talk about something, my thread/topic fails unless it's some sort of anime-related thread. Either that, or my replies go something like this:

"Omg, I love this tooo!"
"I can't wait for the next one".
"soo good "

Some other threads are really busy, but they're usually a bunch of friends just chatting. (I'm thinking of the hangout forum). I know that I've been criticized in the past of being here because of the pixels, but I've come to realize that's only true because it's so hard to have a real conversation here.

tl;dr I think Menewsha fails to attract new members because there's hardly ever any real discussion in the forums.

Paprika 01-28-2012 08:31 PM

Siri: Ping me to a thread sometime, I'll converse with you. :)

Siri 01-28-2012 08:33 PM

Haha, thanks! :)

I think that my point is actually most applicable to the Fresh Meat forum. Lol, does anyone ever even go in there? That's where people get their first impression of the site, so a re-haul would be nice.

Paprika 01-28-2012 08:34 PM

Also, I think Menewsha could benefit from having more areas that pertain to the WORLD/ISLAND that we're supposedly on! Something more interactive (like the old shops layout that was so cute with all those little shops actually realized on your screen!) with more stories/lore/history in a compiled place where we can read up would be great!

A lot of people get drawn to sites based on the intrigue/fun factor of the supposed world/land you're all on. :)

Ivvy 01-28-2012 08:34 PM

lol funny you say that Siri... we have a thread discussion going on about that actually. .>.< Trying to knock around some revamp ideas among users.

jellysundae 01-28-2012 08:34 PM

Siri, people have to know about Mene in the first place though, the majority of people on the internet aren't going to know it exists, which is why we need to get the word out there :)

Ivvy 01-28-2012 08:36 PM

Im gonna post up ref links and some banners on fb and a few other places I frequent. See if I can help pull anyone in maybe send out links to my college friends network and see if anyone shows. Seems everyone is so busy now days.

Siri 01-28-2012 08:36 PM

I can help recruit some people over here--it's just going to be hard to convince them to stay if they're bored.

@Paprika: I completely agree with you--it's part of what made Neopets so much fun when I was little--the history and changes in the world. :)
But nothing can be done about it without money, which brings us full circle.

Paprika 01-28-2012 08:38 PM

I suppose! But there is a lot of art and story stuff that was already written and put out there that could be better compiled by the staff (or volunteer users)

Like making a sort of dictionary, you know? You click a link maybe up at the top and it'll have all of the area's/npcs/shops descriptions etc written somewhere with relevant art. -shrug-

/edit Maybe even the backround for all of the events and what they mean to the islanders (as opposed to the real world basic interpretations)

I totally bombed FB and twitter with my referral link, hopefully a few will sign up.

Siri 01-28-2012 08:45 PM

I would be really excited to see some user-pixeled items for v-day.
There used to be a thread for fan-made items and they were so good.

I would also be willing to purchase some rare items that I haven't been able to get yet... ;)

Paprika 01-28-2012 08:46 PM

I won't deny that having a limited number of 07 rares available at a certain price would be cool. Because those mofos are rare, and if you're going to get a larger community we'll need more out there anyhow. XD

I'd be all for user made items as long as they stayed with Menewsha quality. :)

hummy 01-28-2012 08:55 PM

i agree, i love the story lines and the background behind everything.
it's not just the event commons and event rares.
though, they will be missed.
this is my very first valentine's day event i would be active.
*pouts*
but i totally understand.

----------

i hope to see lots of pixelated user items!

I was thinking something along the same lines.

I know Menew is usually opposed to it, and suggestions of user-made-pixels is usually shot-down (quality being a big thing, blahblah) But maybe a short pixel-contest could be held, and a few of the better items could be made available during the event?

Plus, a pixel contest helped once in the past with getting Menew a pixelist (Chibitotoro anyone? 8D )

jellysundae 01-28-2012 09:29 PM

I'm trying not to cringe at this conversation xD We're never going to drop the quality we expect from items :ninja: If there are people out there who can produce stuff to our standards then that would be absolutely amazing and they need to come forward if they're out there!

But we'd never release inferior stuff just to have stuff, you guys would not be appreciative if we did that. :ninja:

mewmew07 01-28-2012 09:43 PM

Would those referral links work if I post it on Facebook? Because I am trying, but it doesn't show the banner.

Paprika 01-28-2012 09:48 PM

The banner wont work no, but the link does. :)

----------

The banner is more for posting on an actual website/signature/forum post.

xuvrette 01-28-2012 09:50 PM

It is shocking to see this news... I was pretty looking forward to Valentine's event... after being inactive for... a year, planning to be active for 2 months of my holiday.

I could offer doing pixels stuff with no charge if you can tolerate my pixeling skills. *winks* Holiday starts next tuesday~
