Bad dreams

...what do you do when you have one? ._.

AwkwardWithASideOfFries 02-02-2012 01:00 PM

I cry.
Then.
I have the dream haunt me for the rest of my life << >>.
Still haven't forgotten about the one I'd had as a little girl...

Kaiyunei 02-02-2012 01:04 PM

That sounds awful :<

I suppose it helps that I have a forgetful nature when it comes to dreams. But it still takes me a while to get over them.

AwkwardWithASideOfFries 02-02-2012 01:16 PM

Ah, it kind of is~

That's so lucky~ But, at least you eventually get over them :3.

Kaiyunei 02-02-2012 01:38 PM

Yeah, still is many hours of lost sleep tho :v

The Real Nikki 02-02-2012 02:59 PM

I haven't had any bad dreams lately, thank god. When I do, I usually get up and read a book or listen to some music. Just get my mind off it and onto other things. But then I start thinking about other stuff and I end up never getting back to sleep. ):

Same :\ Though, I'll watch TV or a movie most of the time, 'cause I'm usually too tired to read. I remember once I got up and made a huge breakfast for my family...but that was after a movie, and I was still really freaked out.

This time I watched Sense and Sensibility on netflix..

lunanuova 02-02-2012 07:29 PM

I had a really bad dream last night. When I do, they are very vivid and I wake up believing them. I cried and it's made the whole day feel horrible. :/

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 02-02-2012 07:36 PM

I haven't had a truly horrible dream in a while. Not bad enough to make me cry or avoid sleeping anyway. I do kind of avoid trying to remember dreams because I end up having some bad dream that I'll remember. @ [email protected]
Lately my "bad" dreams (that I remember) are odd and life-threatening, but I guess that's not terrible enough. I wake up a bit startled, but otherwise fine. I like to look up some elements in my dreams that I do remember, but that's about it.

Kaiyunei 02-02-2012 10:04 PM

@lunanuova: Yeah, same; well I didn't cry, though I should have liked to. I guess I was too freaked out. But sorry to hear that you're having an unhappy day and had such a rough night.

@Ikuto: When my dreams are really vivid, I cannot help but to remember them for a while at least. Though, I'm glad that you're spared from the bad remembrance.

Ashlyn Mae 02-02-2012 10:42 PM

I haven't had a bad dream in a very long time, but when I do I usually I just get up for a few minutes and then go back to bed. My bad dreams aren't usually that bad anyways.

Kaiyunei 02-02-2012 10:59 PM

That's good. It's no fun having really bad ones. :c I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Codette 02-03-2012 01:46 AM

I will honestly admit, I'm 20 years old, and when I have a nightmare that wakes me up in the middle of the night, I go running upstairs to wake up my mom, tell her everything I dreamt, and then I sleep on the couch in the living room. (yes I still live with my parents.. economic reasons). It's been my routine for as long as I can remember. The only changes is which bedroom I was in ^.^'

Kaiyunei 02-03-2012 02:22 AM

lol. Hey, I'm 22 and still live with my mom. No shame in that, 'specially these days. But yeah, I'm a little different there in that I'm not one to really go divulging what I dreamt. I'm kinda stupid private about stuff; particularly with things that scare me.

Elluh 02-03-2012 02:32 AM

I used to have horrible sleep paralysis a few years ago, I remember
just sitting up in my bed and crying. It was horrible! :gonk:
But after a bad dream I usually wash my face or go outside if it's
really extreme.

I dreamt last night..that somebody loved me~ Smiths reference.. >w>
Nah, I dreamt my iphone was shattered to bits and I tried calling
Apple. :headdesk:

Mika Rose 02-03-2012 03:04 AM

I'm usually too disoriented when I first wake up to do anything about it... so I just lay there and kind of inwardly panic for a while because I'm not yet awake enough to realize that it was just a dream. For some reason, I never really get up and do anything or tell anyone when I have a nightmare... I kind of just lay there and don't seem to realize that I have any other options. xD

Then the next day, when I think of it again, usually I realize that it was something ridiculous in the first place and have no idea why it bothered me so much. o.o

Kaiyunei 02-03-2012 03:21 AM

@Elluh: I hope you don't have sleep paralysis anymore! D:

And, lol. That would suck. Glad it was only a dream.

@Mika: Yeah, I'm kinda like that at first too. Definitely was last night :c until it did finally hit me it was only a dream.

Ling 02-05-2012 10:08 AM

I try not to think about them...the last bad dream I had was just me with a shopping trolley speeding down, up and around shopping aisles....so it wasn't a typical nightmare, but I felt physically ill, like from motion sickness when I woke up.

Pkero 02-06-2012 07:36 AM

Usually I'll write it down, or tell someone about it. My dreams of late haven't been bad, they've just been consistently weird. Last night I had a dream where I was laying in a hospital bed giving myself some sort of blood transfusion, then I posted a Facebook status about it. In the dream. o_O

Usually I just don't remember them, but I'll remember vague scenes or vivid imagery, like the blood thing. Having my dream-self stick a syringe in the same spot a few times and inject blood is kind of a weird image that I wouldn't get from everyday life.

I also used to have nightmares about a statue that was in my house when I was something like two. The statue freaked me out so much that my parents hid it for awhile, then stored it in my grandfather's attic. They brought it back when I was 10 or so, and since I was much taller than it, I laughed in its face. Although when I look in the room it's in and see if moved from where I last remember it being, I shiver a bit. It's a weird little thing.

Cherry Who? 02-06-2012 07:42 AM

Usually I'm able to wake myself up out of them. I'm not sure how I got to the point where I could do that (it wasn't through any lucid dreaming exercises), but if they get bad enough to have me really worked up and stressed out, the emotions are enough to get me to the point of being only half-asleep, and from there I can pull myself out of it.

I'm lucky enough to not have too many proper nightmares. Usually my bad dreams are just more along the lines of "slightly troubling" rather than "full on panic, everything is terrible and I'm going to die." When I do have a really bad dream, though, it usually involves betrayal. Usually my boyfriend telling me he's cheated on me (and being really cruel about it) or my mom being equally cruel. It makes sense, they're the two most important people to me, and I'm generally afraid of people turning on me. But yeah, those are the ones that leave me in a crummy mood for the rest of the day, sort of dazed. Anyone else get that? Like for the rest of the day you're still kind of half in the dream and you can't shake the awful feeling?

All my bad dreams seem to go on for their full length, but I always wake up during my really cool, weird, or completely ridiculous ones. Although I have managed to wake myself up a few times.

I've never had that dream-daze though, save for one time. I was in 9th grade and had lost my math textbook, as had my friend Caleb. In my dream, I was sitting in my math class, and everyone was in their proper seats. My teacher goes to the desks Caleb and I are at and gives us each a math textbook and says, "I found these. Don't lose them again." Then I woke up. It was so real that I actually thought I had my math book that day.

I had a dream I fell off a ladder and woke up on the floor one time >.>

StrangeMwarn 02-07-2012 07:54 PM

I've haven't had a bad dream in ages. It has been at least 7 years.
I can't remember what i done though, because I was about 8 and i usually have a terrible memory XD.
I tend to no worry much though. When something bad happens to me I complain about it for about an hour, then i shut up for about 5 minutes. After that i brush it off and get on with my life.

Dustoxin 02-08-2012 12:24 AM

I normally just write it down and then go back to sleep .-. I've had some pretty interesting Nightmares.

Quad-Theory-N 02-08-2012 02:48 AM

My sister has some pretty terrible nightmares. She's had them since she was about 16. What she does is wake up--and after two years of getting straight nightmares she's stopped growing upset--and pace around her room for a few minutes listening to music. She claims it gets the lyrics into her head rather than the dream. And she counts her steps. With all that's distracting her, she can't focus on the dream directly.

Whenever this doesn't help, she writes her nightmares down. Sometimes she'll still get upset, and that's good! Tears have been proven to have a toxin in them which are like a poison to you. So shedding them is a lot healthier than keeping them in. To think that you shouldn't cry when you're scared or upset is extremely pathetic and narrow-minded. Never believe that. If anyone says it to you, tell them their an idiot, because they are.

So try different things. Write it out, listen to music, play games, read--find something to distract you. And make sure whenever you start thinking about it, just force yourself to pay attention to something else. You're able to control your thoughts. It seems hard, but it's true. If you sit there thinking about it all night that's your own fault. You're just not focusing on other things enough.

Always remember, the human brain is the scariest thing of all. We blow things out of proportion about 80% of the time.
