To the "Right" of France, with a little bit of shoreline. "Up"to Luxembourg, "Left" to Germany and "Down" from the Netherlands

Ok, i think i quoted that abit out of context, still funny nontheless.[rofl]

Grumman_Goose 11-18-2012 09:36 PM

I believe so yes :)

The Wandering Poet 11-18-2012 09:56 PM

Oh right... it was the country I was thinking :D

Mythos 11-21-2012 10:17 PM

I'm also a little displaced like Dani. I'm from Texas, but right now I'm studying in Northern England.

What an absolutely beautiful country. I can't wait for May when I will be overcome with more shades of green than I have ever seen in my life. I'm still not sure how I feel about this take on chili, however. It's unnatural and therefore untrustworthy...

Seriously though, I love being in the UK and will be sad to leave leave it when my visa expires.

The Wandering Poet 11-21-2012 10:27 PM

What about the Chili? o.o

Mythos 11-21-2012 10:30 PM

It's different from the kind of chili you'd find in Texas... and served over white rice as if it were a curry dish.
I just don't know what to think.

I mean, it's good, but it just 'ain't natural'!

The Wandering Poet 11-21-2012 11:03 PM

*blinks* Chili served like curry? That sure is odd...

Grumman_Goose 11-22-2012 07:14 PM

Chillie Con Carnie [drool] it's so good! and it is normal! )<

RoadToGallifrey 11-22-2012 10:27 PM

How are you supposed to serve it? I have mine with rice

Kultura 11-23-2012 12:36 AM

YESSS I GOT A STAR ON IRELAND xD
It's the wrong city, but I'll take it! At least it's the right country this time :3

Mythos 11-23-2012 06:19 PM

In Texas we typically have chili with tortillas and a little cheese or just by itself as a kind of hearty stew.

jellysundae 11-24-2012 12:21 AM

You've gotta bear in mind that for the average Brit, tortilla means Dorito [lol] and the staple carb is bread. So while tortillas are used for wraps and so on, eating them with a meal isn't something people generally even think of doing, I suspect. British meal carbs are spuds, pasta or rice [ninja]

Eating chili with rice is "traditional", or habit if you like, and it's hard to get a human to do something differently. I like chili with rice (though brown rice for me, white is too bland), though I also like it with wedges. I eat it with tortillas sometimes, though that tends to be when I'm using it up, so it's been sat in the fridge and firmed up, and I make what is probably a burrito with it?

I roll it up in a tortilla anyway, tucking the egdes in, then top it with cheese and stick it in the over for quarter of an hour. The cheese stops the top of the tortilla from burning as well as being [drool]

Spring is definitely gonna be a culture shock for you, Mythos. I know I couldn't live somewhere arid because I find the lack of green to be seriously depressing. So you getting to experience the opposite should be really interesting for you [yes] Plus the snow beforehand [ninja]

The Wandering Poet 11-24-2012 09:36 AM

I don't like chili in my burrito wraps... chili drips all over and makes a mess...
I'm far too bad at making burritos... they always get too fat and become tacos...

Jelly would feel right at home here. It's green or brown year round here. Brown being everyone's lawns and green being everything else...

RoadToGallifrey 11-24-2012 12:58 PM

I like chilli and pasta (but that's pretty similar to spag bol) and sometimes I have it with chips but it's usually rice we have it with. We only have wraps if we're having fajitas

Mythos 11-26-2012 05:12 PM

Jelly: Mm, leftover chili-wraps are amazing~ [drool] I'm definitely a fan.
I'm excited about the chance of snow but I'm definitely looking forward to the Spring. I was already impressed by how green everything was in late Summer, I just can't imagine what it's going to be come May! As for right now, however, it's flooding around here (the second time it's flooded since I arrived in England) and I'm somewhere between empathetic because it's hurting the local businesses and in a state of utter glee because I just went through a year (basically) without rain thanks to last year's freak drought.

It's a bizarre feeling when you recognize that you're actually irritable simply because the weather hasn't changed in months.

Vinyl: Oh my gosh, fajitas... [drool] I'm not a fan of chili over pasta, but I think that's because I like to add a lot of pinto beans to the chili and it gets to be too many carbs on one plate for my taste.

jellysundae 11-26-2012 06:08 PM

The air in Spring is lovely. It's probably the same as in late summer, but when you've had the whole summer with it being warm you don't notice it. But after winter, when you get those first days where it's warm and the air is sweet and fresh, it's like coming alive.

RoadToGallifrey 11-27-2012 11:25 PM

Are pinto beans the same as kidney beans?

Wyrmskyld 11-27-2012 11:31 PM

Not really. Pinto beans are brown with spots, and kidney beans are kind of reddish. Pinto beans taste a bit earthier-- they're what they use for refried beans, if you've had mexican food. Kidney beans have a little bit thinner taste to them-- they're great as a base for a dish because they pick up flavors easily.

And since I'm on the thread, I'm in Georgia. About as far north and east as you can be without being in the Carolinas.

RoadToGallifrey 11-27-2012 11:49 PM

Ah I see. I pick out my beans either way, so I was just curious. I only really like baked beans and even then I have to be in a specific mood for them because the texture is odd. xD

Wyrmskyld 11-27-2012 11:53 PM

Baked beans are usually made with navy beans or haricots... And yeah, I'm going to stop here, because I can talk about cooking a long time. :P </lecturemode> We'll just boil it down to 'I like to cook almost as much as I like to eat' and leave it at that.

RoadToGallifrey 11-27-2012 11:55 PM

I prefer to eat more than cook, but that being said I'm a pretty fussy eater. xD

jellysundae 11-28-2012 07:41 PM

I like pinto beans \o But my favourite is chick peas [drool]

Mystic 11-29-2012 08:44 PM

Baked chick peas are amazing. They get all crispy and are extra yummy with some chilli power on them.
