This will likely only apply to British people but...
How the fuck can you -not- know who Blur are?!
Last night at the Brits Blur were scheduled for a performance, so the producers had to cut Adele's speech short (which in fairness, was rude the way they did it, but had to be done) and pretty much everyone on Facebook and Twitter were asking "who are Blur" and saying things like "Oh my god they can't sing" I genuinely can't comprehend the ignorance of some people. Blur were in chart wars with Oasis and were one of the most revolutionary brit-pop bands out there. Damon Albarn is a musical legend in his own right, which is why I don't know how people can't know the band. Even if they only know a few songs (and to be honest their most well known songs were played as their live performance, Parklife being one of them). /rant Anyway, topics to discuss: Do you like/know Blur (if you're British and say no I really will lose all respect for you)? What are your favourite/least favourite songs? How did you rate their latest live performance or were you not bothered? |
I know Blur were/are a british band, but I would have thought that most people would have at least heard one or two of there songs. Like you said they were, "in chart wars with Oasis" And pretty much everyone has heard or know that there is a band called Oasis.
And I didn't watch the Brit awards last night so I can't comment on their performance. Although I did watch Adele get "cut" on the news this morning. Which I thought was rather amusing. But my favorite songs would have to be, Country house, Parklife (Obv) and Girls and Boys. And yeah I much much prefer Blur to Oasis. |
I prefer Blur to Oasis too, the Gallagher's tend to annoy me.
Country House is my all time favourite Blur song. <3 |
Can't say I'm a huge Oasis fan either. :P
But yeah, I know and like Blur. There's a radio station here that plays them fairly often still too so I'm not sure how people can't know who they are at least around here. |
I know Blur! Awesome stuff. I don't understand it either... even though I'm in America. Maybe half blame bands like MCR and Linkin Park who used genre tags like candy for the sake of a wider audience? I mean when you observe things, Blur isn't just known as Brit-Pop, but 90s Emo. All of a sudden not long after, you have people who think Radio Alternative bands are all Emo/Screamo. And that still happens today to a lesser degree.

If I recall correctly, that happened a lot for Paul McCartney at the Grammys.
I definitely prefer Blur, but I've never been one for taking sides on these sorts of things. Yep, Blur. I'm partial to The Universal and their cover of Maggie May. And guys, what about Pulp? |
Pulp, yet another brilliant band. <3

I know of them, but the same with most bands/singers, i couldn't tell you any of their songs.
