How do you make friends online?

Just curious.

I'm bad at it. My threads usually don't get replies (hope this one will).
On most social sites I only have friend who added me for game and stuff like that.

So, how do you make friends on the Internet?

Ok, posted in the wrong forum. This was meant for General Discussion. Now what?

Moved this along for you. ;)

Dystopia 02-29-2012 12:06 AM

o.o I've realized that things tend to go better if you go up to people instead of waiting for them to come to you.

Venya 02-29-2012 02:13 AM

I have no idea. I usually just sorta post something and hope it answers as well. I don't have a life so I'm on allot.

Antagonist 02-29-2012 03:07 AM

By going to different threads and chatting with others. There are some threads where some users are regulars there and if you chat long enough and get along well with them you eventually become friends. At least, that's mostly how it goes for me.

Pa-chinko 02-29-2012 03:51 AM

It's pretty much the same online as it is in real life. Go up to them, talk to them. There will be some chemistry, it does exist online, to make you talk for extended periods and enjoy it. Then you become friends through that interaction.

I'm not good at it either. In fact, i'm one of those rare individuals that have less success with people online than i do in real life. And i'm bad at real life communications.
Considering i'm a casual forum user, who mainly frequents RP sections of sites, it doesn't really fuss me that much. I'm happy to sit by a lurk for the most part.

Petrova 02-29-2012 03:04 PM

I agree with the others, I've found if you make the effort to chat with people such as mailing then eventually you will make some friends :)

HederaHelix 02-29-2012 05:08 PM

Not sure why, but whenever I want to write something in a thread that has regulars I feel like I'm intruding or something.

I'm not shy or anything in real life. It's like forum shyness o.O or something.

Keyori 02-29-2012 05:37 PM

I've felt the same way before, but really I've not found any users that will outright ignore new thread members. It helps to just kindof jump in and participate. Sometimes it's more appropriate to introduce yourself first but sometimes you can just jump in--just read the first page and the last page and get a feel for what the thread is like and what will work best.

HederaHelix 02-29-2012 05:46 PM

I noticed that people here are pretty nice. That should make it easier for me, but for a weird reason seems to make it harder.

I do the first page and last thing but I kinda get stuck when it comes to replying.

kimby 02-29-2012 07:05 PM

I am new to all of this and I'm not even sure what the site is all about. But I do like the forums for chatting. I tried a few games but didn't do very well. I know it's strange for someone my age but I never have been good at games. I'd rather talk about stuff. And I guess I need to seriously think about my education, if I really do want to be a psychologist.

HederaHelix 02-29-2012 07:32 PM

@kinby I've been around for a while but I mainly lurk. I'm also bad at games and from what I see we're the same age.

kimby 02-29-2012 07:37 PM

I just turned 20. I should have been starting college 2 years ago but I sort of got distracted derailed diverted and even disastered off track. I don't even know where to start or where the money will come from. My parents will help but they are putting it on me to do the rest including motivation. I might qualify for other assistance too.

HederaHelix 02-29-2012 07:42 PM

haha, the same. I also should have started college two years ago. I'll start it this autumn.

lightkanna 02-29-2012 10:50 PM

I don't usually chat to someone unless I find them interesting. I also just post on any thread that I find interesting. Then if they wish to reply back to me, they can. If we talk then all is good, if not, oh well. I don't go on any forum sites anymore, so talking to new people don't happen often or at all. I just lay on my bed and just amuse myself in music. I don't have a social life nor an internet one. I have few people I talk to online and I am quite fine with the people I talk to as well.

The Real Nikki 03-01-2012 12:28 AM

Most of my online friends I've had for years from when I was twelve and forced them to talk to me every day. Haha. Then I added all my boyfriend's gamer friends and they seem cool.

I've been pretty lonely as of late, so I've been forcing friendships with strangers again. Just find something to go off on that you have in common, then bug them to chat whenever. I don't know.. it's much easier to do online than it is in real life. I can't say I have a lot of IRL friends, unless I bug them on facebook to come hang out with me.

Anywhoo we can be friends. Hi. (: I'm a college dropout. I might go back soon, maybe, I don't know.

Also, I'm stealing your sig pic, Dystopia. It's my new msn icon thing. I hope you don't mind. I really like it.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 03-01-2012 02:53 AM

I bribe them. :ninja:

Nah, it just happens~ I'll roam around replying to topics I find interesting or checking out hangouts that are based around a topic I like.

Lilim 03-01-2012 04:37 AM

I'm lazy tonight and don't wanna read (Why I logged into a form site I do not know XD)
Anywho someone might have already said this and if so... I like to repeat (I hope someone reads me post and isn't as lazy as I am right now) I tackle someone down and give them luffin!!! And after that we become best friends or they run away screaming and then we become just friends

DaisyKeehl 03-01-2012 04:53 AM

I chat with people and if they have an awesome personality that is compatible with mine then thats cool. :D I usually have to see that they are not a pedo first o.o....
Sometimes I roleplay or I just randomly post and hope for the best.

Cat Eye 03-01-2012 04:59 AM

I don't make friends really, that's why you never see me posting anywhere and why I'll eventually quit since all my rps went silent.

We're like opposites. I've never posted in an RP here

I promise us non-RPers are friendly and don't bite! Well most of us... and the ones that do are up-to-date on rabies vaccinations, I promise! :D

But rps are my only hope really....have enough and they might get a reply once a week -.-

I just don't have anything to say -is boring-

The Real Nikki 03-01-2012 05:29 AM

I can't RPG either.. too much thinking. I'd rather play a video game.

Keyori 03-01-2012 05:24 PM

I love video games... but I don't do the live services (Steam or XBL or PSN or whatever) so I don't really make friends that way. The one exception is Minecraft; we host a private server and invited IRL friends, then they invited their friends, so we have friends-of-friends there that we've gotten to know, but that's not really "online friends" I think.

But gosh I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 3
