lol, you have to have a bachelors to work here

KageShio 04-22-2012 10:35 AM

At least, I'm sure! I'm just going to stick with bartending, lol. Though I really do hope to do something that helps others someday. ^^

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 10:38 AM

Bartending, that sounds entertaining. ^_^

KageShio 04-22-2012 10:45 AM

It can be, though some nights it just feels like I'm a sideshow at a carnival, lol. I really do enjoy it though, I work at a great place and I have some pretty awesome regular customers.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 11:00 AM

Regulars is sometimes what makes the world go around.

In college I worked as the cashier at my college's cafeteria. I can't describe adequately the place. It had the main area with all the food stations, food displays, drink machines, coolers, and bakery section. We had a salad bar area, deli, pizza, specialty meals in addition to the two main bars. Then you went into the larger room that was carpeted with booths and tables alike. Large glass windows with wood paneling surrounding the entire place. During the day, students would come and go. On the weekends there would be wedding receptions or conferences at one end or in one of our specialty rooms. But at night, when I cashiered the most, it was quiet with a few studying or watching movies on their laptops. My job was to ensure that everyone else did theirs, to clean, to checkout those buying anything, to restock, and to close up in the evenings.

I felt at home there. I saw plenty go through that I could tell who was a student and who wasn't easily. I knew those from the neighborhood who came to buy bakery items. I knew which staff wanted a receipt and which ones didn't. I was the fastest cashier on campus and the only one who smiled.

My regulars were the ones who I came to not only know by name, but stood up for me when others tried to give me a hard time. They could tell when I was having a stressful day and would say something nice. They were fun to talk to and share jokes with. I stayed caught up on recent events through them. I could study there at night or if people came through who wanted to talk, I was the perfect public relations officer/diplomat/counselor/etc.

I really miss my college. They are offering me free tuition to get another major if I return. So I am seriously debating it. I miss being stateside with friends and family. I have had 5 people die on me in the last 9 months... 4 of which have been while I was overseas. The value of the lives of those around me has increased to beyond priceless. Every minute and hour has untold preciousness added to it. And here I am, over here. Away from those I care about.

Sorry, I'm rambling aren't I.

KageShio 04-22-2012 11:14 AM

Haha, yea, they are. I've had plenty of nights where I went to work in a bad mood and came home smiling. ^^ They make the bad days better and the good ones perfect.

That sounds like a really nice cafeteria, and you must have been their most valued worker, so many skills! It's kind of strange to hear you were the only worker who smiled, though. I don't understand people who can't even give something that simple to those they work with and serve, I would think it would be kind of automatic. Then again, maybe I'm just the strange one.

Well by the sounds of it, you already know where you belong. It's just a matter of how long it will take you to get there, and what you need to do first, ne? Also, I'm sorry to hear of losses, I know how hard it can be to lose loved ones. Oh, and don't worry, I don't mind rambling. ^^ I'm just happy to have someone to talk to, as it's still early in the morning here.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 11:37 AM

It was a nice place. I miss it incredibly. I was valued and I know that they were glad to have me. When I graduated though and couldn't find a job, I applied to be their new supper cook and they didn't even interview me. So I don't know. They praised me up and down, then ignored me. Not sure what happened.

Smiling was something that I was told we must always do. I'm an introvert by nature and to work there, I learned to be more out-going. In fact, I cam to prefer it as long as I got some alone time afterwards. Many people commented that they felt the cashiers were all rude but me. I figure the smile was the key.

I want to be in school again. I like being a student. History is my love. School my career. Being on the teacher end is okay, but I wouldn't mind going back. Pity I can't be paid to be a student ~_~

Early morning indeed. It is 6:30am back home. 8:30pm Sunday here. :P

KageShio 04-22-2012 12:01 PM

Hm, that is curious indeed. I've had similar happen to me as well. I had worked temporarily as an assistant in a bakery in London when I was younger and they said they loved me and I would be welcomed back, but when I returned a couple of years later they completely shunned me. I was really confused and still am.

I'm an introvert my nature as well and honestly, I don't remember how I got into the bartending business, but it's helped me branch out as well. But yes, I would think the smile is Key, because the difference between saying "have a nice day" with a straight face and a smile is monumental.

Hahah, it is a pity. Why can't we be paid to learn? You said history, what sort, or does it matter?

Hai, but I don't mind too much. Seeing the sun rise through the trees and hearing all the birds is really kind of nice. ^^

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 12:27 PM

I have crickets singing outside... first in a long time... guess spring is here.

I don't care what history I study, as long as I can. I am fond of revolutions. I'm fond of events where you can research causes and effects.

KageShio 04-22-2012 12:42 PM

We still don't have crickets here, for some reason. It shouldn't be too much longer though. ^^

Ah, where as I much prefer to study the more vague parts of history: The disappearances, the mysteries, the grand things our ancestors achieved but we still can't figure out as to how. I'm also very partial to the beginnings, the development of kingdoms and cultures.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 12:54 PM

you like ancient history then ^_^ I found it fun and fascinating. Anthropology would be an area I would love more classes in. Have you thought about just taking a history class randomly online or something just for the fun of it?

KageShio 04-22-2012 01:02 PM

Hai ^^ though some parts of recent history fascinate me as well. I love to read about how much science and medicine has changed and expanded, it's really remarkable if you think about it. Oh, and I'd love to take classes, but my daughter's education comes first. We watch documentaries together though and I've read dozens of books, and that keeps me sated for the time being.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 01:12 PM

You can always learn with her. Under the disguise of teaching her new things (museums and such) you can learn more yourself. Documentaries are amazing. I would suggest the History Channel on tv, but they don't even tell you all the surface information much less the amazing deep stuff you learn when your studying for yourself. Books are always a good thing too ^_^ I miss having access to an English library. Being in a foreign country is really hard for me.

KageShio 04-22-2012 01:29 PM

I do learn with her quite a bit, the books and such I get from the state are actually really good for her age group, not much is simplified. I have taken her to the local museums more than once, as well as the zoo. ^^ It's a bit hard sometimes though, as while I'm marveling at the mummies and delicately preserved artifacts, she'd much rather watch dinosaurs attack each other in the mini-cinema, lol.

We rarely turn on our TV and we only have local channels anyway. We watch documentaries online on a site called "topdocumentaryfilms". They have a decent collection, though you do have to wait on lag and loading bars which can get annoying. Still, books are my favorite scholarly vessel. Heheh, I understand the frustration, when I first came to the US I wasn't completely fluent in English, and I couldn't find anything in my home language. Plenty of German, Spanish and French though, of course.

PapillonCameo 04-22-2012 01:45 PM

hehe Wow seems like everyone's gotten talkative in here.

---------- Post added 04-22-2012 at 10:48 AM ----------

How's everyone doing?

Glad to see you're still interested Maiden!

KageShio 04-22-2012 02:05 PM

Heheh, Just the two of us, now three. ^^ I hope you don't mind that I went ahead and pinged everyone, I just don't want to post and lead up to the first testing if no one wants to continue but, one way or another, this RP shall live, I swear it. *shakes fist* Even if I need to recruit new players or remake it! I really, really, really want to actually get the main plot of the RP going, even if it's just to test one couple completely, I'd be happy.

PapillonCameo 04-22-2012 02:09 PM

Oh of course not, if you hadn't pinged them I probably would have. Hmm, I'm not sure if Cat will be coming back though. I know she's pretty busy with things and mentioned something about it in the Disasters OOC.

Ahaha well I'm pretty sure it'll survive, and if we have to remake it then so be it. ^^ I really wanna see how a testing would go too, one without any interruptions.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 02:23 PM

The rp would be easier I think for everyone if we each only had one character. There are so many that is it hard to figure out what to do with them at times.

KageShio, you totally understand then the culture shock and homesickness I am dealing with then. I want so badly to be in the states sometimes. But right now my job and the economy is just plain better here. Also, I really like my school.

KageShio 04-22-2012 02:28 PM

Ah, well good to know we're still on the same thought-train. ^^ and I know, she had said she was taking a break but I would like confirmation from her before I remove her characters from the list or anything, it's just polite, I think.

Hai, one way or another ^^ and I do too. Once we have figured out who all is with us still we can get that started. Oh, and have you thought more about what you're doing for your end of the other plans?

Sorry, Livethread hates me, as usual ><

Hm, it could be easier, but we would also have less options for interactions. When you have more than one character there are better chances you'll have inspiration for a post. At least, that's my logic ^^'

Yes, I completely get it. I still miss Japan a lot, especially with the disasters last year, but I also just can't give up my job, and I have people here that depend on me, I don't think I could let them go just to go back to a country I haven't seen in over a decade.

PapillonCameo 04-22-2012 02:35 PM

If she doesn't say anything on here, I can always send her a note on DA to ask.

Hmm, well I think I'm going to be going trough Cirque du Soleil videos for ideas. I'm sure to find something that'll work. ^^

Having more then one character each makes it so interesting though Maiden! There's never a boring moment.

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 02:37 PM

That is true... but what do you do with a character that hasn't found anyone to interact with?

KageShio 04-22-2012 02:47 PM

Alright and Cirque du Soleil will give some wonderful ideas I'm sure!

Well, Jayek has not posted more than three times, if I remember correctly, and there are two lovely ladies that have been locked into place because of it. Even if Jayek responds to the ping, I will probably have at least one of the other characters break from the encounter, so if it does happen again for any period of time only two characters will be locked instead of three. Though I have to say, I'm tempted to drop Jayek. I hate doing that to players, but he had told me twice he was going to post regularly and never did so... I'm not quite sure what else to do. :/

PapillonCameo 04-22-2012 02:57 PM

Maiden- I usually make then trip and fall into a conversation. XD

Kage- You could have his character wander off and get lost in the castle, if he decides to post he'd still be able to ... ><

Anyway I have to go now and help my mom root trough some boxes to find costumes. I'll be back on later hopefully!

maidenroseheart 04-22-2012 02:59 PM

I just don't know who to trip into ^_^ Poor fellow still standing on the balcony. Guess I could have him wander somewhere and maybe my random posts with him will attract attention ^_^

KageShio 04-22-2012 03:06 PM

Hai, I could. We'll see, hopefully everyone will get their pings in the next couple of days so we can sort it all out. *hug* Ja matte, Pap-chan!

Hai, that could also work, though hopefully he'll have someone to bump into in once we get this running again. ^^
