That looks like alot of fun!

Kirin Rosenbaum 06-04-2012 09:35 PM

I was there. Not dancing though.

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 09:37 PM

Were you the one recording this video?

And was it a surprise or how did it start?

Keyori 06-04-2012 09:55 PM

Hello folks.

Ugh, it's been a wreck at home since I got back from the humane society. Girl cat is flipping out and I have no idea if she was cranky before I came home or if it's the smell of 20+ other cats on my clothes that set her off (I've washed up and changed but I know that doesn't get rid of all of it). She's being extremely hostile at boy cat (which has never happened before outside of him provoking her or playing too hard) and she can't decide whether to hiss at me or let me pet her. I took her on a walk on a leash and she acted a bit more like herself but as soon as I picked her up to bring her inside she started to flip out again.

I'm hoping it's just a tantrum and she'll be fine by the time hubby gets home. She at least turns her head towards me when I call her and she's not hiding like she was earlier. I just really hope she's not sick with something and taking it out on everyone, even though they're both seeing a vet tomorrow.

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 10:05 PM

Awww poor girl kitty and boy kitty.

steelmagghia 06-04-2012 10:23 PM

Oh man, Key. That is nooo fun. I'm thinking she's probably just having a tantrum, but make sure to let the vet know what went on just in case.
What are they going in for tomorrow?

Keyori 06-04-2012 10:25 PM

Just rabies shots and general exams where the vet says whether or not they're too fat xD

steelmagghia 06-04-2012 10:28 PM

Hahhaa, Key. The vets are always surprised at the weight of my cat. Cause he isn't actually fat, he's just reaaaallly huge.
If they're getting shots, then it's definitely important to let the vet know about behavior changes. I'm sure she'll get over it though. Have you just now been getting really into working with the cats? Like in the last month or two?

I started last week, I went in on Wednesday and Thursday. Both days I took my shirt and shoes off and put them on the floor when I got home so my cats could smell it and get used to it. It didn't bother either of them either day really. Their reaction was more "OH THIS SMELLS INTERESTING" than anything else. And both days I had cats crawling all over me. If you sit down on a bench in the cattery, you'll get a cat in your lap in less than a minute xD

I don't know what it is about today. If she doesn't respond better to hubby when he gets home, I'm inclined to think that it's her being sick and not just being fussy at me.

steelmagghia 06-04-2012 10:37 PM

Hrmm. Is she showing any other signs of illness? Tearing, nasal discharge, coughing, sneezing, lethargy, strange posturing, unusual bathroom habits?

Keyori 06-04-2012 10:48 PM

No, nothing out of the usual. She's still eating her food (and she ate a piece of deli turkey I left on the floor for her, but she won't eat it out of my hand like she normally does, and she won't take her treats from my hand either, and boycat WILL, which is equally weird). She's just tucked into a little cat loaf under the couch right now.

The only really odd thing is that she isn't really playing with any of the toys I've put out for her, but that could just be because she's cranky at me too. She also isn't sitting in the window, which she usually does when I open it up and there's birds outside.

However, she still went to her spot by the door when I got her collar out (that's how she knows I'm about to let her outside, since I don't let her out without her tags on) and, even though she was hissing and growling the whole time, she let me put on her collar and her harness.

Boycat is pretty happy right now though. He's currently hogging my lap and purring.

steelmagghia 06-04-2012 10:57 PM

Yeah, that really seems more like she is really cranky with YOU for some specific reason. Were there any cats in heat in the cattery or are they all fixed?

Kirin, you are in a video mood today!

Keyori 06-04-2012 11:03 PM

They're all fixed (or at least, they are all fixed before they are allowed to be adopted out), but at least one cat there was still very obviously once-pregnant. Her teets were still swollen, so I think she had been put into the cattery on Saturday. She didn't really come near me though. She just kindof ran through the room I was in and hissed at everyone and everything on her way out.

There's so many kitten litters right now :gonk:

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 11:05 PM

what is a cattery?

Keyori 06-04-2012 11:06 PM

A place that holds a lot of cats, usually in a communal or semi-communal environment.

Dude I want one like thiiiisssss

When I go in on Wednesday I'll try to remember to get pictures of the cattery itself. Today I just barely remembered to get pictures of the new kittens that were out.

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 11:12 PM

Wow! That is really cool! So what all do you do with the cats at your job?

Yeah, it may be that one of the female kittens is getting close to maturity and she smells competition on you.

THAT is a cool cattery! I wish I could have one, but I'm allergic to cats (mine is outdoor only).

Keyori 06-04-2012 11:15 PM

All I do is play with them. If I get up super early I can help clean it out and do laundry and stuff but that requires calling the staff in advance to let them know to expect me, and then actually get up early enough to make it out there when they start (only staff members have access to the building outside of adoption hours, and volunteers can be there but it requires a staff person to let them in).

But yeah. Mostly playing. Sometimes I'll go sit with a book and different cats will come and go from my lap. The biggest cat there likes to sit on my foot if I'm on a bench. xD

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 11:17 PM

-giggles- A cat likes to sit on your foot? interesting....

Do you ever see cat fights or do they normally all get along?

Keyori 06-04-2012 11:20 PM

There are some fights but usually they're pretty quickly diffused. Most of the time it's because somekitty bumps into somekitty else and it gets some fur ruffled up about it, but most of the time they give each other enough space and it's not a big issue. There's yowling and hissing mostly, not as much swatting and biting.

There's only really two pairs that get along particularly well. A gray domestic long-hair named Kovu and a new domestic short-hair (no collar for her yet so I'm not sure what her name is) who like to play-wrestle, and then Snowball (who is the big cat who likes to sit on my foot) and and Bob (a slender black DSH with half a tail missing).

I think I have a picture of snowball already. Lemme see if I can find it.

Snowball and Bob are the only ones who will share sleeping space. They didn't even get rescued from the same place; Snowball has been there for 2.5 years and Bob has been there not quite as long (though I'm not sure exactly how long, I just know it's shorter).

dessertdesiert 06-04-2012 11:24 PM

omg two different colored eyes!>.<' sorry random...

Wow.... that's pretty cool. We have two cats that have been together most of their lives and were like sisters (they washed each other behind the ear and such) however lately they haven't been as close anymore and sometimes even hiss at each other.
