My friend's getting chickens. :')

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-13-2012 03:59 PM

Do you know what kind? :O

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 04:01 PM

I dunno. He never said. He's wanting to move to a little croft, so he's going to get chickens and cows and things. I made the joke before that he only wanted to get chickens because my ex (and one of his best friends) was getting them so he'd probably wait until Chris got his and then buy the exact same breed. Then the joke stuck with everyone else that we're mutually friends with.

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 06-13-2012 04:04 PM

XDD That's funny.
So he'd have a little farm type setup? That's neat. * o* Certainly keep you busy.

Mystic 06-13-2012 06:00 PM

Those pigeons are a show type pigeon. They're so pretty in real life too. If I still had the coop together and they didn't mass reproduce then I'd be tempted to get a pair.

Chickens! Silikies have little afros. XD They're adorable.

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 06:01 PM

@Iku: Yeah. He'll have a whole little holiday retreat thing at his croft. It's his dream.

@Mystic: Yes! I forgot the name of them. Those chickens were pretty cool. If I wasn't scared of birds I would have touched the afro.

My mom has some and you can pick her girls up and cuddle them and they just sit there. They're so darn cute. I told her to get some because I couldn't have chickens at the time.

My aunt is terrified of birds and use to refuse to come over to my house because I had parrots years ago. She came over one time and my Jenday Conure was sitting outside with me. She didn't realize she was a real bird until she moved then she freaked out. It was pretty funny. My conure just wanted to go say hi and didn't understand why mommy wouldn't let her.

dessertdesiert 06-13-2012 06:07 PM

-rolls into corner of thread- I so hate living in the woods right now >.>'

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 06:10 PM

My dad really wants chickens, but with a dog and two cats he doesn't really think it would work out well for the birds. I might try and bond with my friend's chickens when he gets them. I asked him to name one Tania after me...he refused. :c

I totally understand where your aunt is coming from haha. I saw a bird in the supermarket and screamed.

Mystic 06-13-2012 06:19 PM

Ah yeah. My dog is terrified of chickens and I have no idea why. Every time she's near my mom's girls she runs away from them.

I hate when birds fly close to you. I always think they're going to hit me. Especially swans....those things are nasty.

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 06:23 PM

Swans are evil! :gonk: The only birds I would get close to are ducks and penguins. C: That's just because I think they're cute and nice. Like, they're the birds that I feel are least likely plotting my death.

dessertdesiert 06-13-2012 06:24 PM

Never walk up to a mother duck when she has her babies around >.>'

Mystic 06-13-2012 06:26 PM

Yeah, once they have babies then they'd plot to kill ya. XD

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 06:26 PM

That should go for any animal really. The vast majority are incredibly protective over their young. I've always wanted a duckling to think I was it's mum.

Mystic 06-13-2012 06:29 PM

I found a duckling one time that was in the sewer at my parents' house. It was a mallard duck and I had to raise it because the wild life group here wouldn't take him in. I ended up letting him go down in a park. They're so messy but so cute at the same time.

dessertdesiert 06-13-2012 06:30 PM

Awww, sounds like fun Mystic, i just want to pet a duck.

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 06:31 PM

One of the disabled people my uncle used to look after had a pet mallard duck called Campbell. C:

dessertdesiert 06-13-2012 06:33 PM

You can have mallards as pets?

Mystic 06-13-2012 06:33 PM

Desi: It was a lot of work but glad he made it. He turned out pretty. I think you have to have permits here because they're considered wild life.

Bucket: Aww! I if I had the room I'd so want ducks. I always wanted to keep ducks in my parents' pond but they would never let me bring any home. I live a few blocks from the water so I get ducks every now and then in my pool visiting.

dessertdesiert 06-13-2012 06:42 PM

Ferrets are considered exotic pets here and you have to have permits for them >.>'

i don't understand it here, they aren't even that exotic they are sold at most pet stores..

Mystic 06-13-2012 07:08 PM

They're a pest in some areas. Here they're not a problem but it is hard to find a vet that'll treat them. Correction, a GOOD vet that know what they're doing.

RoadToGallifrey 06-13-2012 08:55 PM

Ferrets are fairly common here. I'm not entirely sure what pets you need permits for here. I know if you live in a council house you need to have permission before you get anything like chickens and you have to ask around your neighbours if they object.

Lady Rosenbaum 06-14-2012 12:05 AM

Hello thread.

If it's anything like the rest of the UK, it's pretty strict. I'm pretty mad at the whole of the UK for breed specific legislation as is.

Lady Rosenbaum 06-14-2012 12:59 AM

It would be cool to have chickens and fresh farm eggs.
