The one I go to makes sorbet and gelato.

Do you have a Trader Joe's near you?

Keyori 05-29-2012 09:32 PM

Yes, but it's way expensive compared to the grocer. I've been in it once and wasn't really impressed with what they had.

Mystic 05-29-2012 09:37 PM

I keep being told to go to Trader Joe's but never been. I think the nearest is like a half hour away. There's a big health food place about 45 mins from me that's amazing too.

-tilts head-
What is Trader Joe's?

I just made a veggie "chicken" sandwich. XD

I gave up on buying berries from the store because every time I do they go bad it seems like the next day. I can't wait until I can get fresh ones from the garden.

Hahah. XDD I sensed your "chicken."

Mm, it's kind of hit or miss with our produce. Some times they're okay, other times they're quick to spoil.

I planted some seeds in this little starter kit but I think the funky weather shocked them. :gonk: And now I can't find the packets. > A>

`Kitami 05-29-2012 10:32 PM

I want to make a garden really bad. A veggie one, I mean. I haven't had one since I was a kid. But I don't think there is a spot for one here. Dog runs in the backyard and destroys plants, as dogs tend to do (and I don't have the money to fence a spot off or anything) and there is no place in the front yard. :(

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 05-29-2012 10:34 PM

I found this neat post about small-space gardening. :ninja: I am tempted!

Mystic 05-29-2012 10:40 PM

Iku: Are you after my veggie "chicken" now too? :ninja:

You can use almost anything to plant plants in as long as it can accommodate the adult plant. :) I get my seedlings from a local nursery, it's easier than seeds and I've had better luck with most veggies. If you do a Google search there's so many cute ideas out there for small space gardens. I found one that had herbs in reused coffee cans that were painted all these pretty colours. I'm tempted to do that next year and hang them along my fence.

Keyori 05-29-2012 10:51 PM

Am I the only one who hates those upside-down tomato planters? xD

Ikuto Akihiko Hasegawa 05-29-2012 10:51 PM

@Myst: I'll eat anything as long as I like it. :ninja: -sneaks around-

Baah, I need to find my seeeds. I don't know what the heck I did with them.. XDD If any of them did well, I could maybe have put them into the coffee can I have. :c

Easiest thing to plant: Watermelon.

My mom used to eat it on the back porch and spit the seeds into this bush plant thing.

And a watermelon plant just sprung up like CRAZY! It invaded the bush! xD

Didn't bury the seed, didn't feed it, didn't water it. And yet it grew pretty decent-sized watermelons!

They weren't very tasty, but that's probably because she didn't care for it at all. But it doesn't get much easier to plant than that!

Mystic 05-29-2012 10:59 PM

Key: I the hangers too for tomatoes at least. They cause root rot really easy so you can't put too much water in them. And yes! I love water melon but they take over everything. I'm expanding my garden again and making a melon patch for next year.

Iku: I thought this was a cute idea too with mini buckets.

Those are cute! They would be perfect for herbs :)

Mystic 05-29-2012 11:03 PM

Yep or lettuces too. :) I'm looking at something cute to go along my fence for next year. I have this really ugly privacy fence that's all around my yard and one side of it gets good sun most the day. I figure why not try to add colour to it and make it pretty?

Hatake Ayumi 05-29-2012 11:13 PM

My Arizona friend had a Trader Joe's and brought back DELICIOUS strawberry licorice. I want themmm~

Mystic 05-29-2012 11:32 PM

The old fashioned kid? If it's the same kind I'm thinking of that stuff is awesome!

Chickie Nuggs 05-29-2012 11:54 PM

Ooh licorice!
I haven't had licorice in a long time.

Kirin Rosenbaum 05-30-2012 01:04 AM

Trader Joe's is made of awesome.

Superstition 05-30-2012 02:24 AM

Good evening everyone! :) What's Trader Joe's?

Ahahah. We're horrible with eating watermelon though... we buy it and just... don't eat it for some reason.

What I'd love to have is a little pumpkin patch!

Haay that is! :D

Superstition: Trader Joe's is like... A convenience store? It has food goodies in it, that's all I know.

Keyori 05-30-2012 02:58 AM

It's a natural foods store sortof. Like a miniature grocer, but with more frozen stuff.

Mystic 05-30-2012 03:00 AM

I always forget to eat melon when I buy it too or I'll eat half of it and have to give the rest to my sister.

I like this idea! I'm not much of a gardner but my mom is and I'd like for her to have something to take care of here in the house!

Trader Joe's sounds like a good place! Wonder if there's one near here.....

Kirin Rosenbaum 05-30-2012 04:10 PM

Trader Joe's sells mostly their own brand so costs are low.
