Anna slid her shoes off and flopped back on the bed, and then grimaced and squirmed around until the dagger at her back settled in properly.
"I know," Altair said, glancing over at her. "I always check anyway." |
Ezio grinned just a bit and laid back himself. He had no such issues with his weapons (the few he was able to wear in the clothes Anna had given him).
Iris nodded in return and settled back on the bed with a sigh. "It isn't a half-bad bed," she commented, curling up on her side. She was normally a stomach-sleeper, but she couldn't with the baby, so her side would have to do. |
Anna glanced over at him. "Happy to be back in Venice?" she asked quietly.
"It is... very fluffy." Altair was still dubious about these beds. He had been perfectly happy with his cushions, or even the beds of the fifteen century, but these were weird. |
"Very," Ezio replied. "It isn't the same, but at the same time, it is." He looked at her. "Did that make any sense?"
"Some of the pillows are decorative," Iris replied, pulling those off and setting them aside. Then she stretched and resettled on the bed, already dozing off a bit. According to some research she'd done, she would be tired easily until her body adjusted a bit more to carrying a baby, and she readily believed it. |
"Yeah, amazingly." Anna grinned at him teasingly. "Apparently I'm learning to decipher your language now."
Altair stayed sitting up next to her, idly rubbing her back. He was relaxed, but he wasn't going to sleep. |
"Italian isn't difficult," Ezio protested. "Latin is much harder, and so is Greek. Italian is easy."
Iris sighed softly and relaxed when he rubbed her back, slipping into a deeper sleep. |
Anna snorted. "I meant you, your personal language." She rolled her eyes at him and prodded him in the side.
Altair just stayed there, keeping track of what was going on around them. |
"I wasn't aware I had one," Ezio replied. He grinned at her. "Women, on the other hand, have a secret underground all their own, I'm certain of it."
|
"Of course we do," Anna said with mock solemnity. "But if I tell you I'll have to kill you. Part of our secret underground code, you know."
|
"I doubt killing me will be half as pleasant as leaving me alive," Ezio replied teasingly.
|
"Exactly why I'm not telling you anything." Anna grinned and decided to try something. She shifted her foot over closer to his and ran her toenails gently up the bottom of his foot.
|
Ezio jumped slightly and his foot twitched away.
"What are you doing?" he asked her curiously. |
"Testing a theory." Anna grinned, only a little bit evilly, and tickled his sides.
|
Ezio blinked and jumped when she started to tickle him. After a bit of squirming and trying to get away, he finally managed to roll them over and pin her to the bed.
"I think your theory needs more work," he said, leaning down to kiss her. |
"Nope, I think I just proved it." Anna grinned and kissed him again, wiggling her fingers playfully and trying to free herself.
|
Ezio grinned and kissed her again, making sure to keep her pinned.
"I think you're trapped, la mia dolce," he teased. |
"I think so too." Anna squirmed a bit experimentally before giving up.
"I don't think I mind, though." |
"I didn't think you would, either," Ezio replied, giving her one more kiss. This kiss was slower, though, and more thorough.
|
Anna squirmed for a different reason at that, kissing him back eagerly. And while she could still think she mentally double-checked to be sure she wasn't in danger of ending up in Iris's situation.
|
Ezio was pleased she reacted favorably, and set to work giving her what they both wanted at the moment.
|
Anna curled up against him a little while later when a thought occured to her.
"Hey, you said you have a sister, right? I wonder if your family is still around." |
"I suppose it is possible," Ezio replied after a moment, holding Anna close. "When last I spoke to my sister, she was expecting a child, so it is possible that the family has survived."
|
Anna glanced up at him. "Do you regret leaving, even if you hadn't planned to?" she asked quietly. She'd been wondering about that for a few days now.
|
"I don't regret coming back to you," Ezio replied at once. He was quiet for a moment after that. "There are some things I do wish I didn't have to leave, however."
|
Anna frowned briefly. "Sorry," she murmured. "Guess I forgot you still had things back in your time."
