Pap-chan- Have you ever seen a move or anime where a character has what looks like bandages wrapped about their chest or stomach while they are not injured? That is usually part of a form of underclothing (the correct term is Sarashi, though in modern times they are commonly referred to as part of fundoshi). In older times, warriors wore it as not only as underwear but as a form of protection, it added extra padding for armor and softened blows to the stomach and chest. It also served to keep the upper leg muscles from aching under stress, much like an ace bandage- the same logic is used by martial artists, who frequently wrap their hands, wrists and ankles.
