Kiril had to stifle the rage he felt as he watched Alkaid launch his surprise attack against his elder sibling. The man clenched his fist so tightly that his nails dug into his skin and caused a bit of blood to trickle down his palm. As the earth bender made his way over to him, it took all the willpower that he had to keep himself from stripping the Imperial of his will completely through blood bending, but that would be counter-productive to his purpose here now. Through both clenched teeth and bloody and clenched fist, Kiril stayed silent and listed as the brute in front of him recited the necessary proceedings before his arrest. Once he was done, the water bender held out his fists and allowed the larger male to bind his wrists. There would be no more struggling on his part. Briefly, while he still had the chance, he glanced to his brother who seemed to have been injured pretty badly. He wished that he would have had the chance to explain his idea to him or even Heather beforehand, but it was a spur of the moment decision. Nothing could be done about it now. Turning his gaze back to Alkaid, there was an obvious palpable hatred seeping from Kiril. His eyes bore his feelings of rage and anger into the earth bender's soul as he stood there defiant yet docile. His feeling were only spurred on by the twisted grin on the earth bender's face. As the guards were ready to take him away Kiril stopped for a moment to address the people of Einheit. "People of Einheit. I give myself up now for your sake. So that the death and destruction of innocent lives and homes may be avoided in the future if only through one act of selfless compassion. I want you to understand something. I do not do this to be a hero. I am as selfish a man as the next, but there comes a time in one's life when you have to make a hard choice when your back's against the wall. You can either choose to run away from your problem or you can choose to face it." His figure was as regal as it had ever been in this moment as he sent out one last plea to the city he had spent all his life in. He did not want to see this place go down in heap of flames, "The entire city of Einheit has a choice to make now. You as citizens of this great place can choose to run and hide. I won't blame you. Fighting is hard and pain is real. But if you do fight, there will be change. The type of change that only a unified people can make their government make." He looked to Alkaid to signify that he was done. Kiril had never made a speech in public and at this point half the city was gathered around the scene of the battle between his brother and his second in command. It had been the perfect time for him to speak and leave the will of the resistance in the citizen's hands. Without either of their leader's to keep anything in order the actual resistance would likely fall apart. His hope was that his speech would ignite the hearts of the masses to finally come together and see that this would only get better if they forced a change. If that seed had been sown then that was all he could do. He left the fate of Einheit in the hands of the people who could most effectively cause a change. Resolving himself to his fate, he stumbled forward as he was given a helping hand in his walk to the dungeons. ------- Altyre lead his childhood friend out of the city until they came upon the entrance of the labyrinth. It looked more like a large rabbit hole at first. They would have to crawl through the opening then as they delved deeper inside the opening became larger until they reached a stone corridor large enough to walk through fairly comfortably. The corridor was about as wide as two average men in width and had torches set about every fifteen strides apart. The corridor was far entrance was far enough beneath ground that even if all the torches were lit there would be no way to see them during the day or during the night. The fire bender assumed it was meant to be used as a secret exit out of the city in case of an emergency and they had to evacuate important officials or the like. They may not like crawling through the dirt and filth at the entrance and exit but at least they would have their lives. Once they were inside he paused for a moment and grabbed the water flasks that he'd left here for when they arrived. He picked them both up and handed her one, "Drink. We can take our time now. No one will find us and I know we haven't been followed." All the stalking and avoiding the patrolling police had to have left Sylph a little fatigued, especially since it had been done at such a brisk pace. Tyr was used to it himself. It was part of his job description. He stalked his prey through many different channels of information until it was time to stalk them in person and eliminate them. Assassination was an art. It was not the crude bit of murder that most common folk mistook it to be. It took patience and precision. There was no room for error. And it took a stone heart to be able to carry out. The fire bender had no real inclination to take lives. It hadn't been in him. Until recently. All the atrocities that Rhamiria and Alkaid had been committing at first on a small scale and now had been eating away at his conscience. As a Vatican assassin, he was forbidden to get involved in any politics unless hired to do so for the greater good of mankind. He was no longer apart of the Vatican, but their teachings had been ingrained into his DNA. He was so used to following the tenants that he did so almost without any say so of his own, but he knew better than that. The Vatican didn't brainwash their trainees. They got them to buy into what they were doing. It was better that way. It made them all as loyal to the guild as they would be to their own blood family. Yet, Altyre had split with them. Not because he didn't believe, but because he'd been too confined. He hated the feeling of not having a will even if you agreed with what you were doing. It was what had prompted his departure. A few weeks back he had even sent a letter back to the guild master pleading his case to return. A reply had not come back yet. He knew that it was a far trip to where their base was located so he would likely not receive one for months to come. Turning his attention to the woman at his side, he took a quick sip from the flask, "This is an actual labyrinth with a bunch of dead ends and only one correct path. You'll have to follow right behind me because if we get separated it may take me a while to find you. It's easy to get lost in here too. Luckily for you I disabled all of the booby traps they had in here. It seems that whomever made this intended for it to be the ultimate escape route and deathtrap if need be. It was well thought out and built," he admired in a somewhat proud tone. Then as he began to walk, "So, I know you have questions. Now's the time to ask," he pointed out. |
