"True sleep is a wonderful thing," Kali agreed, nodding. "You should try to get some sleep, as well."
"I will," Harry said with a little smile. "Good night, Kali." Mouse thumped his tail a few times as his good night.
"Night," Kali said. With that, she went to go to bed.
Unsurprisingly, Niko was the first one up in the morning, going to get himself some water and do a quick check of the house. He was rather surprised to find Azi and Crowley curled up in a bed that had definitely not been in the living room the night before, but he didn't comment.
He didn't need to, since Christine's startled swearing did it for him. |
"By the Goddess's Third Eye, what is going on?" Tamara demanded as she came downstairs. She was in the nightclothes Kali had gone to sleep in the night before, and her red hair was all tousled. "What is with all the yelling?"
"Sorry, Tam," Christine replied, glancing back at her friend. "But when I wake up and find a bed in the living room that was not there when I went to bed, I freak out a bit."
Crowley snickered and miracled the bed back to his place, already fully dressed and unrumpled as ever. |
Tamara blinked a bit at the suddenly-disappearing-bed.
"I need coffee," she said finally, heading into the kitchen. "It is entirely too early for these shenanigans." |
"Agreed." Christine already had the coffeemaker started, so it just had to finish percolating. "I'm going to go see if Niko and Cal are up. You two--" She turned to give Crowley and Azi Looks. "Don't cause any more trouble."
Crowley just snickered again. |
Tamara just ignored them all until she had a mug of hot coffee in her hands.
Christine checked in on Niko and Cal before she went to go get her own coffee. Lured by the smell, Harry joined them not long after, making sure to feed Mouse too.
Tamara made sure there was enough room for all of them in the kitchen as she sat down at the table. After a moment, she switched places with Bahiti so her sister could have some coffee, before switching back.
Harry took a cup after being waved towards it, settling at the table as well. He did wait for Niko and Cal to emerge to speak, though.
"So what are we going to do now?" He glanced around. "Well clearly the sooner we can get rid of the demon the better, but we need to get rid of it without killing half the city's population or getting killed in the process." Christine huddled over her own cup. |
"Which raises the question of how we should accomplish that," Tamara said as she sipped her own coffee. "The infected people are being used like minions, but I'm still not convinced that they won't change back once the demon is taken care of."
"Which is why we can't go through them, we have to find a way around." Christine sighed and looked at Crowley. "Can't you just pop us in right to wherever he is?"
"Besides the fact that that would be a very bad idea, and would probably get you killed very quickly, no, I can't." Crowley shrugged. "We know he's here, so he knows we're here. He's found himself a little bolthole you have to go in and out of using mortal means." |
"That is supremely unhelpful," Tamara muttered into her coffee. She sighed. They would have to think of another way to fix things, then.
Christine nursed her coffee for a little while quietly, frowning. "We just need to get rid of the demon, and then everything else can get back to normal."
"Yeah," Tamara agreed. "It's getting there that requires some ingenuity."
"Any ideas from the peanut gallery?" Christine looked at the others. Niko just snorted at being called part of a peanut gallery.
Cal just shrugged. He and Niko hadn't met anything yet that they weren't able to eventually kill off. Not that he would admit just how close some of those incidents really were.
Christine snorted at Cal before she shook her head. "Alright, well, think on it for a bit, and we'll figure out what to do. Preferably sooner rather than later." She drummed her fingers on the table for a few moments before she got up go do dishes.
"If we could get the former-people out of the way first it wouldn't be such a problem," Harry said. |
"I would say maybe some sort of distraction," Tamara mused, "but assuming the demon is smarter than the average comic-book villain, a distraction won't take care of all of them."
"We're also assuming he controls all of them," Christine pointed out. "Maybe it's less control and more influence. Anyway, you and I can try distracting the former-people. If we can get them outside, those three should be able to get inside." She nodded to the brothers and Harry.
"Why shouldn't we assume he controls them?" Tamara pointed out. She shook her head. "Never mind, I'll follow your lead on this one. What should we do to distract them, then?"
"I dunno. Hit a few of them and then run away screaming?" Christine shrugged.
Tamara blinked.
"Have you not watched enough movies?" It was Bahiti's voice, instead. "In what universe is that a good idea?" |
