Mouse got in the back while Harry got in the front, heading over to the appropriate area. He'd give the others a few minutes to get around back while he set up before he set off the fireworks.
Christine drove silently, getting out and tucking a handgun into the back of her jeans, making sure to leave the safety on for the moment. She wasn't great with guns, but she figured it would work if she had to use it. "Back this way," Crowley said once the two groups had arrived. "Wizard, you might as well set up in the road." |
When Crowley said to set up in the road, Bahiti began scoping out a good place. She grinned when she spied something similar to a cul-de-sac. It wasn't a legitimate cul-de-sac, but it was close enough.
"Right there?" she asked. |
"That'll work." Harry started hefting things over there while the other group moved away to spread out behind the buildings. "And hopefully this won't take long and we won't have to do too much running."
|
"Well, it's still a good thing I'm good at running," Bahiti said as she helped haul flammable explosives over to the right spot.
|
Harry finished setting it up and glanced over at Bahiti. "Can you text Christine and ask if they're in place and ready?"
|
Bahiti nodded and sent her friend a text.
Fireworks ready and waiting. Give the word. |
Christine double-checked to be sure everyone was set before she sent a text back.
Go ahead. |
Bahiti put her phone away and nodded to Harry.
"And we have the green light," she said, taking a few steps back. |
Harry nodded and aimed his blasting rod at the barrel. Within seconds, it was ablaze, and then gunpowder started going off, fireworks exploding moments later. Harry took a few hurried steps back.
|
Bahiti grinned and watched the fireworks going off. There was a lot of noise and light and confusion, and they were fun to watch until minions started coming out of the nearby buildings.
"And that's our cue," she said to Harry. |
Harry nodded and waited until he knew the minions had seen them and were lumbering after them before he bolted, making sure Bahiti was keeping up.
|
Bahiti was no professional runner, but she was able to keep up well enough. She was able to stay ahead of the minions, at least.
|
Mouse made sure that none of the minions got close enough to hurt the humans. Which, fortunately, wasn't too hard to do.
|
Once they had sufficient distance between them and the minions, Bahiti ducked into a side alley.
"I love a good run," she said, "but that was a bit excessive." |
"That wasn't bad, as far as running for your life goes," Harry said with a grin. Now was one of those times he was very glad he kept up with running every day.
|
"Well, that I wouldn't know about," Bahiti replied. "We usually don't have to do that."
|
"Try to keep it that way." Harry peered around the corner. The mob had lumbered off again. "Now to see if they've gotten rid of the demon yet."
|
Bahiti checked her phone.
"I haven't gotten a 'where are you' yet from Christine," she said. "I'd give them a few more minutes." |
"Think we should go check on them anyway?" Harry asked. He paused when he heard odd noises coming from the direction of the mob, and he went to go check. They were all slowly turning human again and passing out.
"Well, I'd take that as a sign of success." |
"I'd say you're right," Bahiti said, cautiously stepping out of the alley. Once she was sure she wasn't going to be attacked, she went over to one of the people and checked for vital signs. "They're alive, so that's something."
|
Harry nodded and looked over towards the building the demon had been in.
"I think now we should go check." |
"Good plan," Bahiti said, nodding. "As you seem to be the powerhouse here, you go first."
|
Harry snorted but led the way, going back to check on the others.
Christine had a few cuts and bruises but was otherwise fine. And glaring at Cal. "You could have warned me it was coming up behind me," she grumped. |
"Hey, I took care of it," Cal retorted. "You're still conscious, aren't you?"
|
"Unfortunately." Christine glowered at him. Clearly she was just Not Pleased in general.
Considering she was also covered in bits of demon and blood, she figured she was allowed. |
