Cal just shrugged. Either one would work, although they would probably end up wanting to kill each other pretty quick.
Christine just nodded shortly and stretched again. "I'm going to bed. Night, Cal."
"Night," Cal replied.
Elsewhere in the house, Tamara was putting a large duffel by the door, mentally taking stock of what she packed. |
Harry had just gotten up to go get a glass of water, but he paused when he saw Tamara.
"Getting everything ready?" he asked with a sympathetic little smile. |
"Yeah," Tamara said, nodding. "Kali and Bahi are dozing for now. I'm heading up to bed now so we can get a little true sleep before morning. I'll nap tomorrow at some point."
Harry nodded. "You can always nap in the car, it's a long trip back to Chicago."
"Oh trust me, I'll nap," Tamara said. "Even if my sisters don't. If we don't all sleep at the same time, it's kind of like dozing, rather than real sleep, but it's something."
Harry nodded. "Just to make sure, are you coming in my car? I think I remember you saying you don't have a car, and since Christine is going the opposite direction..."
"We don't have a car," Tamara confirmed. "And I'm pretty sure Christine is taking hers." She hesitated for a moment. "Of course, if you'd rather, I'm sure we can find another way to get there..."
"No, it's fine," Harry said, waving her concerns off. "You can come with Mouse and I. Although you won't be so cramped."
"I'll make Kali do it," Tamara said, waving a hand. "She's the smallest." She grinned. "But it was kind of amusing listening to Bahi complain about your little bitty clown-Beetle."
Harry snorted. "You three now have first-hand experience with how little modern technology and I get along."
"Why is that, by the way?" Tamara asked, interested.
"Magic tends to screw up anything made before 1970. Things from the 50's are even more dependable." Harry shrugged.
"Interesting," Tamara said. "And there's just no real reason for it?"
"Something about the energy and the magic and the wielding of it," Harry said with a shrug.
"Might be interesting to look into," Tamara mused. She fought back a yawn. "Okay, yeah, time for some true sleep. See you in the morning."
"See you." Harry went back to his own room to get some sleep.
Christine got up early the next morning to make some breakfast before they had to leave. Harry was the next one up, and he shot her a brief grin when she put a plate with pancakes in front of him. |
Kali was the next one up, shuffling into the kitchen fully dressed but half-asleep. The clothes she was wearing actually seemed to fit her well, indicating that they were actually hers and not belonging to one of her sisters. She zombied over to the table and sat down.
"Morning," Christine said quietly, setting pancakes in front of Kali, along with her favorite tea mug.
"Morning," Kali mumbled, taking a sip of the tea. She sighed a little.
"Guess we're heading off to separate cities today," Christine mused, going back to the stove to make more pancakes.
"Yeah," Kali said, a bit quietly. "We don't have to, you know. We can stay here." She still had a few reservations, but her sisters seemed excited to go, so she didn't have much of a choice. At least she had her sisters, though; Christine didn't have that.
"No, I don't think we I can right now. This house just seems too odd for right now." Christine shrugged. "Besides, who knows? New York might be fun. And you'll get to see Chicago."
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Kali asked. Although, to be honest, it was all three of them asking.
