Bahiti made a face.
"That was horrific," she said. "Where did you pick up that monster of an accent?" |
"Online," Thomas said with a brief grin. "It's amazing what you can find online. Just, you know, nowhere near my brother."
Bahiti grinned.
"I can imagine," she said. She poked at her cell phone. "Our phone seems to be on its last legs now. Pity, it was still in decent shape." |
"It might recover if you keep it turned off around him and give it a good charge." Thomas shrugged. He'd learned after his first two.
"Fantastic idea," Bahiti said, turning her phone off. "Let's see if it ends up working."
Thomas chuckled. "Keep it as far away from my brother as possible," he advised with a grin.
"It's not my fault." Harry shrugged. "It is, actually, but oh well." Thomas rolled his eyes. |
Bahiti just grinned.
"Ahh sibling banter," she said. |
"Sound familiar?" Thomas grinned, sounding amused. So far he liked Bahiti. She had a good sense of humor, she didn't mind Harry's oddities, and they got along well. Now he just had to make sure they actually got together.
"I have two sisters," Bahiti pointed out, grinning.
"I know. I have met both of them." Thomas looked amused.
"So sibling banter is nothing new, here," Bahiti said. She grinned. "Kali thinks it's amusing when Tam and I disagree about coffee."
Thomas just snorted and shook his head. Yeah, he didn't do sibling banter apart from Harry, and he couldn't imagine bantering with some of his other family.
Bahiti just shrugged in a 'what can I say?' kind of way. She was used to having her sisters around to banter with, and it was normal for them.
Thomas stayed over for a few more hours before he decided it was time for him to go.
"We should get lunch or something similarly normal and not violent," he said to Harry as he got up. "Sure," Harry said with a little shrug. "Think we'll get a break for long enough to do that?" "I hope so." |
Bahiti had since given control back over to Kali, who was paying attention to Mister for the moment. She stayed in the kitchen with the cat, letting the brothers say goodbye.
Meanwhile, in New York, Christine was still settling into the brothers' apartment. She'd already taken over the kitchen, shooing Cal out of her way while she cooked, and now she was just waiting for things to finish cooking while she sat on the counter with a book in her lap.
Cal stayed out of her immediate way, but only so far as the kitchen table; the food smelled way too good to abandon the kitchen entirely and he wanted to stay where the food was.
Christine got up when the timer went off, plunking the heavy volume on the table in front of Cal and going to get the food. The book was open to a section on angels and nephilim.
Cal blinked when he glanced at the pages. He usually wasn't big on reading, but he could read if given the incentive. After the first few lines, though, he lost interest again.
"What's with the book?" he asked. Much faster way of getting information. |
"Research." Christine looked over at him briefly before she went back to finishing up dinner.
Nik slipped into the kitchen and looked at the book. "Heavy research," he commented idly. "Personal research," Christine said, glancing back at him. |
Cal raised a eyebrow, but didn't comment. If it was research, he would learn more listening to Nik and Christine talk about it than he would reading it himself.
Nik perused the page. "Curious choice in research," he said.
"Yeah, I know. Like I said, it's personal." Christine shrugged and put plates on the table. "I'm not quite sure I understand why someone would feel the need to research something like nephilim. They don't exist." "They do, just most people don't know." Christine shrugged and put food on the plates. |
"Wait a second," Cal said, holding up a hand. "Back up for those of us who don't eat dictionaries for breakfast. What's a nephilim?"
"The child of an angel and a human." Niko looked at Cal before focusing on Christine again. "And how do you know if they exist?"
"I just know." Christine crossed her arms over her chest, shuffling back a bit. |
"That's not an answer," Cal pointed out, watching her carefully.
