With that, Katherine went to see about settling down for the day. Her bed was big enough that she could share it with Leila and not disturb her, and that's exactly what she did once she made sure the shades were closed.
Leila woke up a little after noon, still groggy, but she got up and started moving around to wake herself up. She yawned briefly before getting dressed, rubbing her eyes. Now to find food.
Katherine was sleeping soundly when Leila got up. When she slept for the day, she really slept all day. Carlos was also still sleeping; there was no point in training himself to wake at noon when he couldn't go out in daylight, anyways. The castle was quiet, for the most part; a few servants were here and there, but that was all.
Leila shrugged and amused herself with making lunch and then relaxing for a bit and doing some exploring. She was starting to feel a little more like herself during the day, not quite so groggy and half-dead.
Near dusk, Katherine and Carlos both emerged from their rooms and headed straight for the kitchen. It was very much like someone needing a coffee fix; neither would really be 'awake' until they got their breakfast.
Leila snickered as she watched them zombie around. Really, this was kind of fun.
"All you need to do is start muttering about brains and you'll really be zombies," she muttered, more to herself than to them. |
"Hush," Katherine muttered around her glass. She took a few sips and sighed. "Oh that's good..."
Leila snickered at them again and shook her head. She'd already had her caffeine fix today, so she was good for a while now.
Both vampires almost visibly perked up as they worked their way through breakfast. The almost pasty-looking paleness (especially on Katherine, who was fair to begin with) flushed to a more healthy tone, and Carlos ended up chugging the last of his glass and putting it into the sink.
"Breakfast of champions," he joked, grinning a bit. |
"Only the undead ones," Leila said with a grin. "I think I'll stick to my Wheaties, thanks much."
Carlos couldn't help but laugh at that, and even Katherine couldn't smother a snort.
"Good one," Carlos said, grinning. |
Leila grinned briefly.
"So what's the plan?" she asked, looking at them. "Where are we going and what are we doing? I still have two and a half weeks of vacation time, and I intend to enjoy it." |
"Well, where do you want to go?" Katherine asked. "We can easily make reservations anywhere you want in Europe." Asia was trickier, but still manageable if that was what Leila wanted.
"Hey, you know me. England, Ireland, Italy, Greece... Anywhere like that is just fine with me." She paused. "I almost want to go to Turkey, but I dunno. It's sort of problematic."
"Ireland, then?" Katherine suggested. "Or Scotland?"
"Sounds good to me." Leila smiled. "And then we can go over to England, since it's just right there. And we can figure things out from there."
"Sounds like a plan," Katherine said, grinning.
"And I'll head back to the States," Carlos said cheerfully. He fully intended to get back to his life at home. The girls didn't need him around... right? |
Leila looked at him for a moment before she shrugged. It didn't matter to her what he did. Or it shouldn't. Definitely shouldn't matter. None of her business, right?
"You should go with them, young pup," Vlad's voice came from the doorway. Katherine barely managed not to jump, Carlos wasn't quite so controlled.
"Why?" Carlos asked, turning around. Vlad gave him a bit of a Look, and Carlos backed down a bit. |
Leila jumped as well, turning to look at Vlad. She blinked, trying to puzzle through why Vlad would tell Carlos to go with them.
"Does it matter?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at Vlad. |
"It might," Vlad replied. "Would you rather take the risk?" After all, the girls had merely been in Bucharest and Carlos felt the need to follow. The poor pup would never stand a chance if the girls went into another country without him. And who knew what it would do to the human girl?
Leila sighed. Okay, he had a point there. It would be a good idea to not find out by force what a big separation would do.
"You're not supposed to be so logical," she grumbled, although she didn't really mean it. |
"I have had quite a while to work on it, rest assured," Vlad replied, although there was a hint of a smile on his face. "There is no harm in taking him along, so long as he and our little bird can get along."
Katherine made a face just shy of a pout, but didn't say anything. |
Leila smiled a little. "I'm sure they can manage to get along well enough for a while." She shrugged. "And if not he can always stay in the next town over."
"I am certain they will behave themselves," Vlad commented, glancing at Katherine and Carlos in turn. Neither one looked at the other.
