"O-negative," Carlos replied at once. He wrinkled his nose. "I'll take it if I have to, but it's so...bland. There's nothing in it."
Leila couldn't help but laugh. "I see." It was kind of curious, actually, and she made a note to ask Katherine later if their tastes varied as widely between vamps as it did between humans.
"It only took me a couple of decades or so to learn to tell the flavors apart," Carlos commented. "My sire knew about the different blood types by then, and taught me right off the bat." He grinned. "The later generations are lucky that way. I bet it took Kitty over a century to even realize there was a difference, let alone why."
Leila chuckled. "Yeah, I can see that. So why do you call her Kitty when you know she doesn't like it? Just to antagonize her?"
"Pretty much," Carlos replied with a shrug. "Katherine is way too old-fashioned, and she punched me last time I called her Kate. Besides, a savant with such an uptight name? The fledgelings and neophytes are intimidated by her. I call her Kitty to make her seem less scary." He grinned. "She hasn't torn my head off for it yet."
Leila shook her head. "Well, it's worked for you so far, but even so. Not a brilliant move." Shaking her head, she waited for Katherine to show up so they could get going.
"Could be worse," Carlos pointed out. "I got a brother everyone calls Johnny-Jump-Up for how fast he wakes up in the evenings."
Leila snickered at that. "How cute," she said, grinning almost evilly. "Guess we'll have to think of some nickname for you, then."
"I'm good, thanks," Carlos replied, holding up his hands. "No need."
"Oh, I don't know. There might be a need." Leila grinned. "I'm sure I can come up with something appropriately mortifying."
"Oh yes, make me want to die when I can't," Carlos teased. "Cruel woman."
"Damn straight." Leila grinned at him, clearly teasing, before she looked over towards the stairs. "Katherine's taking to long. Go fetch."
"No need," Katherine said as she walked in. "I don't need to be fetched."
"And I don't fetch," Carlos agreed. |
"Oh really?" Leila smiled at Carlos before she got up. "Shall we get going, then?"
Carlos nodded.
"We need to get moving if we're going to catch the first flight," he said. "I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not high enough in the family to ask to use Uncle Vlad's plane." |
Leila just snickered and shook her head, grabbing her purse and heading outside.
"So he knows we're leaving?" She glanced back at Katherine, then at the castle. |
Katherine nodded.
"He's letting us bum a ride to the airport," she replied. "So we're going to want to go now." |
Leila nodded and went over to the car, opening the back door and glancing at Carlos.
"Our stuff is already in there, right?" |
Carlos nodded.
"Packed and ready," he said. |
Leila nodded and slid into the car, getting comfortable there. She figured it would take a bit to get to the airport, and then a long plane ride.
Katherine settled in as well, and Carlos was the last one to get into the car. As soon as the door closed, the driver set off towards the airport.
Leila looked between the two of them before she grinned briefly. "Well, it's nice to know we can all sit civilly in a car."
"There's still time," Katherine said, although she grinned a bit. Carlos just rolled his eyes a bit, but didn't comment for the moment.
Leila laughed quietly and settled in for the trip.
"So, is it two seats to a row, or three? I need to know if I need to be on peacemaking mode or not." Leila glanced at Carlos. |
"Two," Carlos replied. "The first one is a small plane. The second has three-seat rows, though."
