"Huh. Interesting." Leila blinked at that but didn't ask any more questions for the moment, instead continuing to poke around the shop.
After a few more minutes, Katherine ushered the two out the door again.
"We can always come back," she said. "But there's more to see before the sun rises." |
Leila grumbled a bit but went along with them, starting to look around again.
Pritkin watched them go but didn't say anything. If he was right, they did have some kind of problem, and they'd be back. |
Indeed they would; or at least Katherine would. She would take advantage of the daylight hours when Carlos and Leila would be asleep and she would come back to see what she could get out of the shopkeeper.
Pritkin was still around during the day, though he did close the shop for a few hours around dawn to get some sleep. He had an odd sleep schedule, to say the least.
But by the time Katherine came back, Pritkin was tidying up the store, in his own unique way. Really, it only looked like chaotic clutter. |
Katherine walked into the store quietly, although it was out of habit than done on purpose. She stepped carefully around a few piles of things on the floor as she went.
Pritkin looked over at her when she entered. "Back again so soon?" He sounded faintly amused, walking over to her.
"Seems so," Katherine replied, glancing at him. "I suppose I found myself intrigued."
"Well poke around all you like." Pritkin arranged a few more things before he stretched, popping his back, and resettled his belt with various vials around his hips.
Just because he was retired didn't mean he wasn't paranoid anymore. |
"Actually," Katherine said, turning to look at him, "I found myself a bit curious about you."
Pritkin blinked and looked at her.
"Well then," he said, moving over to a less cluttered area and motioning to a few chairs. "Unless you're curious about how I taste, take a seat. And if you're curious about that, I'd advise you keep it to yourself." |
"I'm not particularly fond of the taste of mages," Katherine said as she sat down gracefully. "So I believe you're safe from me in that regard."
"Good, I would hate to have to repair the shop. Again." Pritkin sat in a chair as well. "So, what is it you're curious about?"
"You mentioned, last night, that your shop is only found if the person doing the finding has a reason," Katherine said. She was quiet for a moment. "Perhaps I do have a reason."
"I'm listening." Pritkin leaned back in his seat, his eyes sliding half-closed. This he was more used to.
"You remember the other two I was with last night," Katherine said. "The girl and the other of my kind. There is... an accidental bond between them, it needs to be broken."
"Ah." Pritkin sighed. "What kind of bond? Have they exchanged blood or is it one-way?" Because details were important.
"It was one-way," Katherine replied. "He fed on her and accidentally began turning her, but it didn't get far."
"Just far enough to create the bond." Pritkin nodded. "I assume they've been kept close since the bond was formed? And when was the bond formed?"
"They've kept pretty close," Katherine said, nodding. "It's been several days."
"Well, immediately after the bond formed would have been best, but if it's only been days rather than months..." Pritkin shrugged. "I should be able to help. I'll have to contact an associate of mine first, though."
"An associate?" Katherine asked, raising an eyebrow slightly in question.
"Someone who specializes in vamps." Pritkin shrugged. "My area of specialty is demons, and I would rather not screw up separating the two."
Katherine considered that for a moment before nodding.
"Alright," she said. |
"I won't give too many details. And I don't have names to give." Pritkin shrugged. "You needn't worry, he's just a phone call and an ocean away."
