"Hopefully," Cupid agreed. They passed the little alcove where the two girls were, and Cupid did a double-take. "Well, well! Look who's here! Decided to start terrorizing someone else now?"
|
"We were," Elaine said sweetly, "and then we heard you were here." She gave him a Look that clearly said she was still Not Pleased with him.
Mercury raised an eyebrow. "You know these two?" he asked Cupid. "You're not normally one to take a personal interest." |
Cupid shrugged. "That one," he pointed at Elaine, "I shot, and she made me undo it so they could do things the slow way. That one," he pointed at Kae, "I don't know much besides knowing that they're partners in crime, basically." He shrugged, unconcerned. "How did you two even get here, anyway?"
"Loki." Cupid blinked, looking shocked. "Loki? Loki brought you two?" |
Mercury couldn't quite cover a snort.
"They made you undo it?" he asked. "I think you're getting a bit soft, Feathers." "Loki decided he wanted us to tag along," Elaine said. "Really, it's Loki, did you really expect him to fall into a routine?" |
"Shut up," Cupid grumbled to Mercury. "And no. But clearly you don't understand what Loki bringing you here means." He grinned. "I look forward to when you figure it out."
|
That made Elaine pause for a moment, but she didn't press for more information.
"I think it's fascinating that Loki would bring along a mortal girl that doesn't even belong to him," Mercury commented, regardless. "Undeclared, certainly, but blatantly belonging to someone else? Curiouser and curiouser." |
"Seems he's even more unpredictable than normal," Cupid agreed with a grin. "Although perhaps these two simply drove him all the way over the edge, rather than just most of the way."
|
"We'll have to see how this particular drama unfolds," Mercury agreed, grinning as well. "This should be interesting indeed."
|
"Finally, some form of entertainment," Cupid agreed with a huge grin.
"Are you done having fun at our expense?" Kae asked dryly. "Not yet." "Whatever. Go find someone else to pester for a while, Cupid." |
"Come on," Elaine said, tugging a bit on Kae's sleeve, "let's go back to looking around." Because really, she had nothing else to say to Cupid and she didn't want to deal with him anymore.
|
Kae nodded and continued walking around, exploring the area more and making a mental map in case she got lost.
"Anywhere else you think we need to go?" |
"There's nowhere pressing I need to go," Elaine replied. She shrugged a bit. "So wherever."
|
"Alright." Kae shrugged and started wandering, deciding to just look around the hotel again and peek out the windows at whatever was around.
|
The first day was spent exploring, pretty much, which Elaine was grateful for. It meant that they didn't have to deal with too many gods all at once. The second day, however, promised to be much more interactive, and she almost didn't even want to crawl out of bed.
"Why did we agree to this?" she muttered as she got dressed. |
"Because we were curious," Kae muttered, grabbing jeans and a t-shirt. Today was the official meet-and-greet, aka catching up and showing off. Official business type stuff didn't start until tomorrow.
|
Elaine slipped into her own jeans and blouse, pulling her hair back and slipping in a pair of fun earrings.
"We may as well head down," she said once they were dressed and ready. |
Kae nodded her agreement and headed down the stairs, glancing around as she went. She (mostly) trusted Loki to take care of them, but still. They were willingly walking into a convention hall full of gods. That was just a little nerve wracking.
|
Elaine followed her. As they got closer to the main ballroom, she could hear all sorts of voices all talking at once. She paused just outside the doors.
"Ready when you are," she said after a second or so. |
Kae nodded and opened a door, heading inside. Loki was already waiting for them, moving over to them and planting himself there.
"It would be wise not to wander around overmuch on your own," he said quietly. "Humans without an escort here are not always treated so politely." |
"We'll keep that in mind," Elaine said, nodding a bit. One hand went up to play with her necklace, still a bit nervous.
|
Loki noticed and scowled a little at the necklace but didn't say anything, instead starting to make his way around the room. Most of the time he just found a quiet spot to stay out of the way and cause trouble from. Many of the other gods weren't too fond of him, after all.
|
Elaine glanced around the room as they went, making note of everyone she saw. Most seemed familiar in some way, she some she could pinpoint automatically, and others she had no idea. But she stayed close to Loki, regardless.
|
Loki did introduce them to a few people, and he nodded at Thor when he saw the thunder god crossing the room towards them.
"I didn't know he was coming," he muttered. "This will be entertaining." Because he knew the other gods would start to get curious when they realized that the two human girls were not only brought by Loki, but also knew Thor and Cupid. Oh yes, interesting indeed. |
"I'd have been surprised if he wasn't here," Elaine commented. "He's your brother, I doubt he'd have skipped out on spending time with you."
One other deity was making her way over to them, from the opposite direction of Thor. It was one of the Egyptians from earlier, and Elaine's eyes widened. "Silvertongue," she greeted Loki as she got closer. She nodded to him, and then tilted her head towards Elaine. "Might I borrow my supplicant from you for the moment?" |
Loki was quiet for a moment before he nodded. "You may," he agreed. He didn't like it, but he couldn't actually say no, after all. Well he could but it wasn't a good idea. "Go ahead, Elaine."
