"Do what you want," Loki said with a shrug, as though he didn't really care. He didn't actually want her to leave, but it was her choice.
"And you'll be okay with it if I do tag along with them for a while?" Elaine prodded. Because even if he was trying to make it out like he didn't care, she got the feeling that he still kind of did.
"They are your gods," Loki said And yes he was a bit peeved that she hadn't told him anything before. "You are free to go with them as you wish."
Elaine was quiet for a second.
"I'll see what kind of compromise I can come to with them," she said. "I don't want to spend the entire time with them, I do want to see other things." |
Loki shrugged. "You will have to speak with them. You are, after all, their supplicant." Loki could go talk to them himself but he figured Elaine would better know how much time she wanted to spend with them and what she wanted to do.
Elaine couldn't help but cringe a bit when she heard the underlying bitterness in his tone.
"I am sorry for not mentioning anything sooner," she said. "I was raised to not bring attention to it, so I just kind of let it lie." |
"Understandable, I suppose, in this age." Loki shrugged. "As I said, do what you will." He let himself out, heading back to his room for a while.
"Alright," Elaine said. She watched him go and flopped back on her bed. She would figure things out in the morning.
The next day was a little different. The large convention room had been sectioned off into smaller rooms so gods could conduct business or show off or whatever they wanted in smaller, private groups. Everyone was also dressed much less formally.
Which meant the girls got to wear whatever they wanted and could go see whoever. Loki had given them permission to wander, since they were both marked as his and the smaller groups wouldn't bother grabbing a human. Not unless they really wanted to cause trouble. |
For the moment, Elaine stayed with Kae. If they came across the Egyptians, she would probably hang around, but for now, she would wander with her friend.
Kae just wandered around for a while until she overheard a group talking about the Avengers.
"Apparently one of the humans nicknamed the hammer," Eros said with a grin. "Meow meow." |
Elaine couldn't help but snort.
"It wasn't a nickname," she commented quietly, more to Kae than anyone else. "It was a miscommunication." She glanced over at Eros. |
"Perhaps at the time, but now it's a nickname." Eros grinned at the girls. "Besides, I think it suits him."
"It's not 'meow-meow,'" Elaine said. "It's Mjolnir." She couldn't resist adding, almost silently under her breath, "dumbass..."
Eros looked at her for a few moments before he snorted. "Oh I know how it's actually pronounced. I think I know better than you, considering how many centuries I've had to put up with him. Now shoo."
Elaine just looked at him, although she'd decided that the best thing to do was not to say anything. Whatever she would have said would have just gotten her into trouble.
Eros flicked his fingers at her in clear dismissal before turning back to his conversation.
Kae rolled her eyes and tugged Elaine along with her. |
Elaine let Kae pull her away.
"I think they've been away from people a little too long if they act like that," she commented to her friend. |
"You're also kind of forgetting that they're gods. They don't have to play nice. They can do whatever they want to humans for the most part." Kae rolled her eyes. "Really, Elaine, it's not like you to go pissing off people who already have superiority complexes and have the power to back it up."
"I didn't really mean to," Elaine said. "I just couldn't help it. They were making fun of Thor, and I mean, we know Thor. He's our friend." She sighed a bit. "I don't know what happened."
Kae sighed and shook her head. "Come on, let's find someone safer to spy on for a while. Someone who won't decide to muck with our lives preferably."
Elaine nodded and went with Kae. Something safer sounded good.
Kae wandered around for a bit until they came across a group of three Egyptians. She blinked and glanced back at Elaine to see if she wanted to stay or keep exploring.
Elaine paused for a moment, looking between Kae and the gods.
"I'll meet up with you in a little bit, okay?" she asked her friend finally. |
"Sure. Have fun." Kae wandered off again to go find Thor so she'd have some company, at least.
