Elaine nodded and went over to her gods.
Later, she managed to find Kae again just before dinner. At one point during the day, she'd been whisked off by the Egyptians and treated a bit like a dress-up doll: she was now wearing a few more pieces of gold jewelry and an ivory linen shirt that was woven through with gold threads, and her eyes were outlined in khol. "That was fun," she commented cautiously to Kae when she sat down next to her friend. |
"Looks like you had fun. They're just letting you keep this stuff?" Kae snorted. "Am I going to have to get used to them dressing you up? 'Cause I might have to get a few pictures."
"Hush," Elaine said, turning a bit red. "I wasn't expecting the impromptu makeover. They just said 'follow us' and next thing I knew they were using me like a Barbie."
Kae snickered and promised herself she'd get pictures later, instead looking around the room again.
"Well, Loki's off making friends--supposedly--and Thor is somewhere. Off drinking, maybe." |
"Follow the loud rumblings and crashes," Elaine suggested dryly. "He probably found someone just like him to drink with."
"Wouldn't surprise me in the least," Kae agreed with a grin. "Oh well. Long as he doesn't come crashing into our room later, I don't care."
Elaine snickered.
"Tony's not here to point him at us," she pointed out. "We can tell him to go sleep it off somewhere else." |
"Yup. Like in his brother's room. Or the foyer for all I care." Kae grinned. "I can just see it if a bunch of them drink: a pile of gods all sleeping in the middle of the floor."
Elaine couldn't help but snort.
"A puppy-pile of gods," she said, snickering. |
"Yup. And the only thing that would make it better would be if someone decided to actually make them puppies. Sounds like something Loki would do, huh?" Kae grinned.
"Don't you even," Elaine said, grinning. "Because he would. Just for shits and giggles, he would."
"He totally would." Kae snickered. "Oh man, can you imagine? Hung over god-puppies." She dissolved into giggles at the thought.
Elaine laughed as well, biting her lip to try to contain it.
"It would be so priceless," she agreed. |
"Oh that would be perfect," Kae said, grinning hugely. "That would be absolutely perfect. Think we can make it happen?"
"Possibly," Elaine said. "If we pitch the idea just right." She grinned. It was a fantastic idea.
"We should. We totally should." Kae grinned. "Maybe in a few days, closer to the end of the convention."
"Can you just imagine if it was the last day? What would the others say if we brought Thor back as a puppy?" Elaine worked hard to suppress another round of giggles.
It took Kae almost a full minute to respond. "Oh it would be so priceless. That would just be hysterical. This has to happen now, Tony will thank us for it later."
Elaine just snickered.
"We should pitch this to Loki now, then, so he has time to scheme," she said. |
"Next time we see him," Kae agreed with a grin. Because really this opportunity was just too good to pass up.
Elaine nodded. Hopefully, it would make Loki stop moping, too, which would just be a bonus.
The girls didn't end up seeing Loki until shortly before bedtime when he went to make sure neither of them had gotten into any serious trouble.
Elaine was in the bathroom trying to wash the kohl from her face when she heard the door open. Switching from magnified vision back to normal, she leaned out of the bathroom to see who it was.
"Well, I see you managed not to get into too much trouble," Loki said dryly, looking at the jewelry on Elaine's bed.
"We didn't. Really did you think we'd go around starting fights or something?" Kae looked amused. "No, I didn't think you were that suicidal. But you are used to... kinder attitudes than are here." Loki shrugged. |
"I didn't ask to be made into a dress-up doll," Elaine grumbled as she scrubbed off the last of the kohl. It was infuriatingly resilient stuff. Once her face was clean, she went to gather up the jewelry on the bed.
