"I'll let you know," Steve said with a little chuckle. "Or if they manage to destroy part of the Tower. I'll let you know then too."
Elaine giggled a bit.
"I would hope so," she said. "And tell Tony that I keep a stash of the really good Kona blend coffee in the back of the cabinet just to the left of the microwave, if he's really that upset about whatever Clint did. The good blend might mellow him out a bit." |
"He seems okay so far. He's rebuilding the coffee machine. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get a cup of plain black coffee here ever again."
"We'll find you a regular coffee maker," Elaine promised, grinning. "Something nice and simple that just makes coffee."
"We'll have to hide it from Tony. He might find it insulting, or something." Steve couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"Tony can deal with it," Elaine said. "He can have his super uber complicated espresso-press-coffee-brewing-frufru thing, and he can just deal with the classic coffee machine."
"Unless he turns it sentient. Then I'll be in trouble." Steve laughed quietly. "I can see him doing it, too."
Elaine snorted.
"He should know better," she said. She didn't deny that he would try, though. |
"Should," Steve pointed out. "But it sounds like something he'd try in an insomniac phase.
"True," Elaine admitted. She stretched a bit, propping her phone on one shoulder, and she fought back a yawn. "You'll just have to keep an eye on him."
"I'll... see what I can manage." Steve shook his head. "It's getting late. You should get some sleep."
"Have Jarvis and Claudia help," Elaine said. "Claude should still be connected to the tower systems, so she can help keep an eye on Tony." She fought back another yawn. "You're right, I should go... Make sure to try to get some sleep yourself. You can be just as bad as Tony sometimes with the insomnia."
"Don't worry, I'll get some sleep tonight." Steve smiled a little. "I'll see you soon."
"I'll be home as soon as this is over," Elaine promised. "Get some sleep, I'll make sure to do the same."
"Good." Steve was quiet for a few moments. "I love you," he said quietly. And thank goodness for bribing Jarvis so none of this would ever get to Tony.
Elaine smiled and blushed just a little as her heart did a funny little skip.
"I love you, too," she replied. She was quiet for a second, just basking in it. "Now go on and get at least a little rest before you try to go one-on-one with another punching bag all night." |
"Yes ma'am," Steve said with a little laugh, shaking his head. Not that he was planning on staying up all night going at a punching bag. "Night, Elaine."
"Night, Steve," Elaine replied. She hung up the phone reluctantly and headed back into the room.
Kae was already settled in her bed, having taken her shower and settled in while Elaine was on the phone.
"All well back at the Tower?" she asked, not even looking up from her book. |
"Tony and Clint are in something of a prank war apparently," Elaine said as she set her phone to charge and settled on her bed. "It's probably a good thing Loki is here, apparently they're both getting creative now."
Kae snickered. "Yeah but neither of them is going to be able to outdo Loki when we get back," she pointed out. "Bringing back your own brother as a puppy. Ultimate prank."
"Steve thinks it'll be highly amusing," Elaine said. She grinned. "He agreed to help keep Clint from being neurotic about it."
"Good idea. That should help things some." Kae grinned. "I wonder how Bruce is doing?"
"Go call him," Elaine suggested. "Can't hurt, can it?"
"Probably not," Kae agreed, getting up and grabbing her cell phone so she could meander out onto the balcony to call him, waiting for him to pick up.
