Elaine paused for a moment.
"Yeah," she said finally, "he kind of was. But I have Steve, and that's definitely enough." She paused again, and then turned the faintest bit pink. "And I should ask Tony if the soundproofing is done because I don't want a repeat of last time." |
Kae laughed quietly. "If you ask him, be prepared for teasing. You may as well ask Claudia, or Jarvis."
|
"Or have Claudia ask Jarvis," Elaine said. "Good plan, I like that plan."
|
"I like that plan too," Kae said with a grin. "Go work on that plan while I get cookies in the oven."
|
"Claudia?" Elaine asked.
"Already working on it," the AI replied. Elaine just grinned at Kae. |
Kae snickered and shook her head, amused.
"It's a good thing we never have any fun." |
Elaine snickered.
"Just wait," she said. "Once I have the basics down, Loki said he'd teach me more advanced things. Mull that one over for a while." |
"Oh man Tony's never going to allow you in his lab again," Kae said before she started laughing. "Oh this is going to be hysterical."
|
"Nope, Tony said, and I quote, 'no magic testing in the tower, or the house, or on any of his things.' Testing, not actual practice." Elaine grinned. "Technicalities. As long as I don't do any magic, I should have no problems." She paused for a moment "A phrase I never thought I'd say, and yet feels so awesome."
|
Kae snickered. "Yeah, I still get the feeling of awesomeness when I float things across the room. Or people. I've been meaning to test on people, actually. Maybe Clint."
|
Elaine snickered as well.
"Good luck," she said. |
"Thanks." Kae grinned and watched as Clint wandered into the living room to play his video games. Winking at Elaine, she waited until he was seated on the couch to start floating him, little bits at a time, until he was a good few inches above the couch.
|
Elaine just watched, biting her lip to keep from snickering. This was priceless.
|
Clint didn't notice for almost a full minute, and then he yelped (in a rather unmanly way) and flailed a bit, trying to get down. Kae just grinned.
"Don't worry, Clint, I got you," she said easily. |
"What the hell?" Clint
|
"You're the lightest person here besides Natasha, and really, I'm not floating Natasha," Kae pointed out. "I don't have a death wish. You just presented me with the opportune moment to begin my testing. Really, you're safe, I promise."
|
"You have no idea how unnatural this is," Clint said even as he stopped flailing. "People are not supposed to float."
|
"At least you're not in a metal suit," Kae pointed out helpfully, shifting his balance a bit so he'd be more comfortable. "Eventually Professor X says I'll learn how to make it feel like you're actually sitting or standing on something solid."
|
"That could be useful," Clint said. Even he had to admit that.
While they were 'working', Elaine went to go find Steve and let him know what was going on. |
"Once I get there," Kae agreed. "For now it's just floating. Do me a favor and throw your weight around some. In a controlled manner, not just flailing."
Steve was sitting up on top of the Tower sketching, occasionally looking out at the sky line. |
Clint blinked a bit and tried. It was harder than it seemed, without something to brace himself against in midair, but he managed an awkward sort of flopping.
"Hey," Elaine said, going to sit down next to him. "Have you been up here all day?" |
Kae figured out how to let his momentum carry him forward while keeping him floating, grinning briefly.
"Most of the day," Steve said with a little smile, putting his pencil down. "What have you been up to?" |
"Had a meeting with Dr. Strange," Elaine said, leaning against him a bit. "Deciding exactly what to do with myself for the next however-long." She grinned a bit. "Trying to make myself a bit more useful."
|
Steve debated the wisdom of telling her that she didn't need to make herself useful, and then gave up on that.
"Is it something you want to do for yourself?" he asked quietly. "Not just because you think you need to be more useful?" |
"Nope, this is an idea I've been turning over in my head for a while," Elaine said cheerfully. "Ever since the whole little-kid incident, actually."
