Bruce was the first one to get there. Going over, he gently touched Kae's shoulder.
"Kae?" he asked quietly. |
Kae groaned and opened one eye to look at him, already starting to show bruises from her repeated failures.
"Tired," she grumbled, though she did scoot closer to him. "When did you get here?" |
"Just now," Bruce replied. "Are you alright?"
"Sore," Kae admitted, sitting up with a wince. "Very sore. Ow."
"I can imagine," Bruce said. He helped her up. "Come on, let's get you to your room so you can rest a while. I can cook tonight."
Kae nodded, too tired to argue. "Guess I'm gonna have to give in and ask Tony for flying lessons." She made a face.
"I'm sure he'll enjoy that," Bruce said dryly. He put an arm around Kae's waist. "Come on, let's get you settled."
Kae let him lead, leaning against him the whole time. At least he was warm and comfy. "You got any ideas for me in that genius brain of yours?"
"I guess that depends," Bruce said as he took her to her room. "What is it you want ideas for?"
"How to fly." Kae leaned against him again before she flopped over on her bed.
"I, uh, don't think that's something I can help you with," Bruce admitted as he sat down on the bed next to her. "Tony might be your best bet, there. Or maybe contact Jean? She might be able to help."
Kae nodded and leaned against him as soon as he sat down. "Yeah, I should probably give her a call anyway."
Bruce let her cuddle close.
"Probably a good idea," he agreed. "For now, you need some sleep, I think." |
Kae nodded and yawned. "Wake me up for dinner?" she asked, managing to get an arm around him.
"I won't be able to cook if you keep me here," Bruce pointed out.
"Make Clint cook," Kae grumbled, worming over to octopus around him.
Bruce chuckled.
"That's a bad idea," he said. "Clint is good enough, but he'll let Thor try, too." Leaning over, he kissed Kae on the forehead and slipped from her grasp, ignoring the Hulk grumbling in the back of his mind about the loss of contact. "I should cook. You get some sleep." |
Kae grumbled but curled up, already half-asleep. She made one last half-hearted grab at him before curling around a pillow instead.
Once Bruce was sure she was asleep, he left the room and closed the door behind him. He nodded to Steve as they passed.
Steve nodded back before moving into the impromptu practice room to get Elaine.
"How're you feeing?" he asked as he sat down next to her. |
"My brain doesn't hurt as much as last time," Elaine offered, her implants turned off for the moment. "And I think I might have fewer bruises than Kae. I think I made out alright."
"What were you trying to do?" Steve blinked at her, looking at the landing pad. Clearly he didn't get it.
Elaine grinned a bit.
"Would you believe me if I said the lesson on today's curriculum was flying?" she asked. |
Steve blinked at that. "Really?" He'd gotten kind of used to people flying, since Tony, Thor, and Loki all could. "I hadn't known you could."
"Neither did I," Elaine admitted. "I figured Kae could, since telekinesis is all about moving physical matter through the mind, but I didn't think I'd be able to."
