"You should try to get some rest," Bruce said as he sat at the kitchen counter and watched her. He was still too wound up to chance going into the labs, and he didn't want to leave Kae alone.
Kae shook her head with a wry little smile. "I'm still too upset to settle properly," she admitted quietly. "Besides, cooking will help settle my nerves, some at least."
"For a little while, then," Bruce said, nodding to the stove. "But then try to rest. Sleep is good for you."
"This coming from you?" Kae raised her eyebrows at him, getting a pot on the stove so she could start a soup that could sit all day. Or all night, as the case was.
"I have a dangerous gamma-charged id who doesn't like sleep," Bruce pointed out. "And I plan on keeping an eye on Tony until he's on his feet again."
"Yeah, and I tend to break things when I have nightmares, you know that," Kae said stubbornly. "So I think I'll stay up until he gets up."
Bruce sighed. He knew when he wasn't going to win. Kae was just as stubborn as Tony.
"Alright," he said. |
Kae grinned briefly at her victory and spent a while working on the soup before she made a few batches of chocolate comfort cookies. A single batch didn't last very long in the Tower, so she always made at least two.
Bruce just let her work. He knew better than to get in the way and besides, the calm-quiet and the good smells from the cooking were keeping the Hulk relatively happy.
Kae blinked when she heard movement, and Tony emerged from the staircase, yawning briefly and heading straight over towards the cookies.
Bruce glanced over and watched as Tony shuffled his way over from the cookies to the coffee machine. Well. At least that hadn't changed.
"The good blend is in the bottom cabinet," he said. |
Tony nodded silently and made himself coffee, sweetening it more than normal before taking a few long sips, just holding it.
"Well, looks like you didn't blow up the Tower," he said to Kae, his humor just a little flat. "'Course not, I have better control than that." Kae slid a few cookies over to him. |
Bruce watched for a moment to make sure Tony wasn't about to fall over, and then got up to go let everyone else know what he was on his feet and coherent.
Tony went through two more cups of coffee before he finally slowed down enough to make a cup last for more than a few minutes. He practically inhaled the cookies, too.
Clint was the first one into the kitchen.
"Good to see you up and about, Stark," he said. "Had us worried, there." |
Tony waved off his concern. "Nothing can keep me out of the game for long, you should know that by now." He went for another cookie.
"Not much puts you off your game to begin with," Clint pointed out. "Still. Good to see you back on your feet."
Tony nodded, acknowledging that, and held out a cookie to him.
"Still fresh," he tempted with a little grin. |
"Aww, you always know just how to get me," Clint joked as he took the cookie.
Tony grinned. "I'm thinking we should open a bakery," he said. "Backed by Stark Industries, run by Coulson and with Kae's cooking. Bet you we could make a fortune with her." He paused. "Well. A second fortune for me, really."
Kae just face-palmed. |
Clint snorted.
"Yeah, you're feeling better," he said. "'Sides, it would have to say 'King' on the sign." |
"So?" Tony grinned. "I'll admit I'm crappy at cooking, she can take all the credit she wants."
Clint just rolled his eyes and perched himself on the counter.
Tony grinned when Bruce came back, followed by Steve, Coulson, and Natasha.
"Bruce! I had a brilliant idea! Not that all of my ideas aren't brilliant but this one was even better than normal." |
Bruce raised an eyebrow, although inwardly he relaxed when Tony seemed mostly back to normal. He knew it was a front, for the most part, but if Tony had the energy to put into the facade, then he was a lot better than he had been before.
"Oh?" he asked. Elaine drifted in with Steve, glad to see Tony up and about. |
