"Either one is fine with me." Kae leaned forward and took one, taking a bite. "Turkey. Smoked turkey, I think. It's good."
"Cool, turkey and cheese then," Elaine said, taking a sandwich of her own. "Next time, I swear, cut up some really thin cucumber slices for me and we'll have cucumber sandwiches."
"Mmm. Sounds good. I'll have to find a way to label the bag for you, then." Kae wasn't worried. She'd figure something out.
"I might still have some special labels for my label-maker," Elaine offered. "I'm not sure if I used them all up. But you know I have that Braille label-maker." She paused. "Somewhere. I think."
Kae snickered. "I'll go look for it later," she said with a shrug. "I'm not worried about it. If all else fails, I can just tell you where I left it."
"That works, too," Elaine agreed as she felt her way to the couch and sat down.
Kae let out a sigh, munching on her sandwich. "And now I'm tired. I'm not used to hauling around an extra couple pounds, I guess."
"You'll get used to it," Elaine assured her. "Just need to build up strength in your good leg, that's all."
Kae nodded. "Yeah. But for now it's tiring. I guess it'll just take time and practice." She sighed.
"Yeah, but just imagine what everyone will say when you see your relatives again and you're walking," Elaine replied. "Didn't you say you had to visit them next summer or something? Or am I thinking of something else?"
"No, I have to see them next summer. It's the big family reunion thing." Kae shrugged. It was just kind of something she had to deal with. "Man, imagine if I brought Tony along..."
Elaine couldn't help it, she giggled.
"Yeah, him and his personal entourage of TV cameras," she pointed out. |
"Hey, he's managed to escape them every time he goes to the library," Kae pointed out.
"Or Fury keeps them away," Elaine pointed out. "Also possible."
"Very true. That man is scary." Kae shook her head. "Well, either way, I can just imagine the looks on the faces of my cousins."
"Too bad it wouldn't do me any good to have you take pictures," Elaine said. "I wish I could see them too, I'll be it'll be hysterical."
"I can always tell you," Kae said with a little shrug. "I know, not the same, but the best we can do right now."
"Make sure not to leave anything out," Elaine said. "Promise." Because she wanted to know, darn it.
"Oh trust me, I'll give you so many details you'll beg me to stop." Kae grinned.
"I'll hold you to it," Elaine replied, grinning. She stretched a bit. "Although I suppose I'll have to share first, since Thanksgiving this year is with the Clan."
Kae snickered. "Oh you'll definitely have to share," she said with a grin. "Your clan is always entertaining."
"Yes, yes they are," Elaine agreed, grinning. "Thanksgiving should be interesting."
"It should be." Kae grinned. "As usual, you'll have to give me all the details and what new rumors are going around and all that. Your family is just so amusing."
Elaine grinned.
"I promise," she replied. She made a bit of a face. "Though if they keep asking me when I'm going to settle down with someone..." |
Kae just snickered. "Oh, I get that too. I'm now the youngest female of marriageable age in the family, so everyone asks about if I have a boyfriend and what my plans are." She rolled her eyes.
