"Not available," Kae replied with a shrug. "I didn't get to pick the team, Howard, I just know them. Besides, you know you're not the only tech and weapons expert."
"But I am the best," Howard pointed out. "Even the government thinks so."
"I know," Kae said. "Does it matter? I mean, you'll find out on your own, you know."
"I suppose not," Howard agreed after a moment. "That doesn't mean I'm not curious, though."
"Curiosity I know all about." Kae smiled sympathetically. "But I can't tell you. Sorry."
Howard grumbled under his breath about it, but turned his attention back to his maps.
Elaine looked at Kae, and then gestured to the door. They needed some time to freak out together, and they couldn't do it with Howard there. |
Kae nodded and headed back to Elaine's room with her, keeping calm up until they were both inside and the door was shut.
"Okay, seriously, universe, what the ever loving hell." |
"Jesus that was Phil," Elaine said. "That was Coulson. That shouldn't be possible, it doesn't match up."
"No it doesn't, we need to figure this out when we get home," Kae said, sitting down. "We are going to corner him and have a Talk."
"Him and Fury," Elaine said, nodding. "Fury is not exempt, there's no way he should still be around."
"I dunno about you but I feel better questioning Coulson than Fury. I say we talk to Phil first and see what we can get out of him."
"Good idea," Elaine said, nodding. She sat down with a sigh.
Kae sighed as well.
"This is just so crazy I can't even think anymore. I have a time travel headache." |
"I know how you feel," Elaine said. She was quiet for a moment. "I miss home. I miss Steve and the kids. I've never been away from Nessa and Bram this long before."
"I know. I miss Rose and Bruce." Kae bit her lower lip a bit. "I've never been away overnight before. This is not fun."
Elaine bit her lip, as well, and called up the illusion again. She rooted around in her memory until she hit on one time where she had seen Steve and Bruce both in the living room looking after the kids, and she displayed that for Kae.
Kae smiled a bit. "Too bad you can't check on what they're doing right now at home," she said. "Ow. Too much time phrasing there."
"I wish I could," Elaine said. "I want to check on them so much."
"I'm sure they'll be okay," Kae said. "Bruce and Steve are capable, and they've got lots of help too. It's not like they're alone in this."
Elaine nodded.
"Yeah," she said. "Doesn't mean we won't worry, though." She was quiet for a moment. "I'll figure this out as soon as I can." |
"I know. Just don't give yourself a migraine. Take your time." Kae settled in next to her to just relax for a bit.
"A migraine would be worth it to figure out what exactly I did," Elaine said. "I'm still not sure, I think there may have been some external factors in play. I mean, it's the same date, just the wrong year. Do you remember if there was anything special about yesterday that could have had an impact? Holiday or something?"
"Not that I'm aware of," Kae said with a shrug. "No anniversaries that I'm aware of, either, although that doesn't necessarily mean much." She shrugged again.
Elaine thought for a minute.
"What was Tony working on yesterday?" she asked. "Any idea?" |
"Upgrading his suit, your newest request for implants still, some kind of emergency one-time repulsor blast, and Natasha's bracelets. I think." Kae frowned. That sounded about right.
