Kae woke up on the couch in the lab, and she groaned a bit as she rolled to her feet.
Steve was up the instant Jarvis alerted him that Elaine was back, and he half-ran up to the living room, grabbing her the instant he saw her and pulling her into a tight hug. |
Elaine squeaked when she was pulled into the hug, but returned it just as tight.
"Steve, I'm alright," she said. "I'm fine. I missed you." Bruce had gotten the alert that Kae was back, and immediately went into the lab. "Kae?" he asked. Going over, he pulled her into a hug. |
Steve didn't relent his hold for several long moments, and even then just enough to look her over.
"No one knew what had happened," he said quietly. "You and Kae just vanished." Kae hugged him back tightly, taking a few moments to relax against him. "Honey, I'm home," she joked quietly. |
"Magic," Elaine replied softly, snuggling close to him. "I was working, and something went wrong. Took me a little while to get it fixed."
"Don't scare me like that again," Bruce murmured, holding her close. |
Steve nodded a bit, pulling her close again. "Try not to let that happen again, please. It's been... hard."
"I didn't mean to," Kae said quietly. "Spell gone wrong. I just got dragged along for the ride." |
"I'm sorry you had to worry like that," Elaine said softly. She snuggled closer. "I'm fine. Just missed you and the kids." She grinned a bit and looked at him. "Though we will have to discuss where I ended up. Or rather, when I ended up."
"I was worried about you," Bruce said. "Everyone was." |
Steve's eyebrows shot up at that. When she'd ended up? He heard a story behind that.
"Later," he said when he heard Natasha moving. "After breakfast." "Sorry," Kae said again, snuggling closer to him and resting her head down against his shoulder. |
"Alright," Elaine said. She sighed and snuggled him. "I missed you. You, Nessa, and Bram."
Bruce held her for a few minutes and then gently steered her into another room. "Someone else missed you too," he said softly, taking her to Rose. |
"We all missed you too." Steve smiled a bit. "Come on, the kids are in here." He gently pulled her back towards the room that had been converted for their twins.
"Hey there baby girl," Kae said with a little grin, picking up Rose and making the girl squeal. "Were you good for Daddy while I was gone?" |
Elaine smiled when she saw the twins. Gently, she picked up Bram and snuggled him, and then did the same to Nessa.
"She behaved just fine," Bruce said. "Just missed her mom." |
Steve hovered over his family, feeling better already now that Elaine was back and he knew she was fine.
"Breakfast soon," he said quietly, though he didn't try to move her yet. "Poor sweetie." Kae smiled a bit and cuddled her daughter. "Hopefully that won't happen again." |
Elaine nodded.
"Alright," she said softly. She handed Nessa to him and picked up Bram again. "Let's go." "Breakfast in a little while," Bruce said softly to Kae. |
Steve nodded, carrying Nessa easily, and followed her back up to the kitchen. He figured most everyone else would be there by now.
"Yeah." Kae smiled a bit and shifted Rose, moving over to Bruce again and leaning against him a bit. "I missed you both while I was gone." |
Elaine stood on her toes briefly and gave him a kiss before they headed upstairs. Once they were in the kitchen, she settled Bram into his highchair, letting Steve take care of Nessa.
Bruce put his arms around her waist gently. "And we missed you," he said, holding her. |
