Elaine reluctantly let herself be shooed out of the room, but went into the living room and opened her laptop nonetheless. She didn't doubt JARVIS in the least, but she wanted to do her own search, just in case.

"Hey, Tony," she said after a little while, "is this that paper you were talking about?" She turned her computer around so he could see the title on the screen: 'One Giant Leap For Mankind: Human Evolution Through Spontaneous Genetic Mutation.' The author listed was Charles Xavier, Professor of genetic studies.

"Yup, that's it," Tony agreed. "Been a few years since I read it, though." He shrugged. "It's an interesting read, though."

"I might give it a listen," Elaine mused. "Might be worth looking in to again, depending."

"Agreed." Tony was quiet for a few moments. Then he blinked when he had an incoming call. "This is Stark."

"Mr. Stark? This is Charles Xavier. I heard you have someone there who might need my help."

Tony blinked. "How did you...?"

Elaine perked up when she just barely caught the voice on the other end of the line.

"That's a little spooky," she commented softly to Steve.

Steve nodded, watching them.

"How doesn't matter at the moment, Mr. Stark. May I visit this young lady and offer her my help?" Xavier kept his voice soothing.

Tony's immediate reaction was to say no and hide Kae, but he swallowed that back. "Alright," he agreed carefully. He didn't like it, but Xavier was more of an expert than he was. He was just put off because this Xavier person knew about Kae before he'd been told.

"Very good. I'll be there in a few minutes. Until then, Mr. Stark." Xavier hung up.

"Well, I guess we're getting a visit from the professor." Tony huffed.

"I'll go let Kae know," Elaine volunteered, getting up. "You all... try to talk each other out of being ridiculously paranoid about getting a visitor." Sweeping her cane around a couple times, she made her way towards the shared suite. When she got there, she knocked on the door softly. "Kae?"

"I'm awake," Kae called, though she didn't get up from where she was laying on her bed. "What's going on?" Because she knew something had to be going on for Elaine to be back so soon.

"Tony just got a kinda funky phone call," Elaine said as she made her way over to the bed. She sat down. "Before that, though, how're you feeling?"

"Kind of shocked. Kind of..." Kae shrugged. "I don't know. I feel like somehow the glass exploding is my fault, but I don't know how it happened or how I did it or anything. It's... kind of terrifying, actually."

"Well, we managed to find someone who knows about such things," Elaine offered. "He kind of... tracked us down first. Tony's fuming a bit, he has no idea how it happened. But the expert offered to come down to see if he could help." She cracked a bit of a grin. "Figures Charles Xavier himself would do such a thing."

Kae frowned. "Why does that name sound familiar?" she asked, looking at Elaine.

"Bruce mentioned him, remember?" Elaine said. "Before you came in to lay down for a bit."

"Yeah, I know that, but more than that. The name rings a bell." Kae frowned before she shrugged. "Oh well. I'll figure it out eventually. So when do I have to be ready to interact with people again?"

"I'm not sure," Elaine said. "Just be presentable, I guess. I'll come get you when he gets here."

"Alright. Fair enough." Kae sighed and got up, going to go brush her hair and change into clean clothes.

Once Elaine was sure Kae was alright, she made her way out the door again and into the main room.

Kae emerged a little while later to go sit and wait for this professor to show up.

As it turned out, he showed up about two hours later, JARVIS announcing him before the elevator dinged open and he wheeled out.

"You're Charles Xavier?" Tony raised his eyebrows, looking down at him. "Huh. Okay."

"Yes, Mr. Stark. I'm Charles Xavier." He smiled faintly. "Now, which one of you is Kae King?"

Kae raised her hand tentatively, shuffling closer to both Bruce and Elaine.

Elaine nodded, mostly to herself, when she heard Xavier speak. Yeah, that was the voice she heard on the phone.

When Kae stepped closer to the other two, Charles couldn't help but give a small nod to Bruce.

"Doctor Banner," he greeted pleasantly. "Always a pleasure to see you."

"You always make me almost believe you, Professor," Bruce replied with a bit of a grin.

Kae snorted. "Bruce, you need a bigger fanclub."

"I've been telling him that for weeks!" Tony pouted a little.

"You always spout off bullshit, Tony."

"Do not!"

Xavier cleared his throat, looking between the two. Neither of them looked at all abashed.

"So," Tony said, looking at Xavier, "I can understand why people call me an expert in computer science and engineering and weapons manufacturing, but what makes you an expert in this field?"

I don't know, Mr. Stark, Xavier said just to Tony, mind-to-mind. You tell me.

Tony jumped and flailed, his eyes huge. "What the hell?! Don't do that!"

Xavier folded his hands politely.

"Now, Mr. Stark, may I continue?" he asked

Elaine twitched slightly at the sudden flurry of activity.

"What just happened?" she asked. "Really, someone narrate for me."

Tony grumbled. "Fine. What exactly is it you want to do?"

"I can't narrate when I don't know what just happened," Kae shot back, looking between Tony and Xavier. "I don't know what they did, but something freaked Tony out."

"First and foremost, I run a school, Mr. Stark, Miss King," Xavier said, looking between them. "A school for the gifted. Or, if you prefer, a place where mutants can live safely, without fear of persecution."

Bruce just nodded as he listened, he'd heard this spiel before when Xavier tried 'recruiting' him. Elaine, on the other hand, was fascinated.

"No." Tony's voice was flat, and it took Kae a moment to realize why.

"Wait. You're offering that I can go live there and train and whatnot?" She raised an eyebrow at Xavier. It didn't seem like a bad offer but she already knew she wouldn't be comfortable. "How about we just the SparkNotes version and I stay here and study?"

"If you wanted to," Xavier replied. "There will always be space at my school, should you want it. However, far be it from me to take you away from somewhere you are clearly comfortable. I would, however, like to help you control your mutation, Miss King, if you will let me."
