Kae nodded. "That sounds like a good plan," she admitted. "So now I have two questions. Why am I suddenly exploding glass, and what can you do?"
Tony shot her a withering glare. |
"Well," Xavier said, "to answer your second question, Miss King, I am a telepath. I can hear the thoughts of others and project my own, when I feel so inclined. And to answer your first question, I believe your mutation has manifested itself as telekinesis."
|
"Great." Kae's voice was dry. "So you're a telepath, I'm apparently now telekinetic, and you tried to recruit Brucey and the other guy. My confidence is just going through the roof with this."
Tony couldn't help but feel rather proud of the amount of sarcasm she packed into her voice. |
Indeed, Miss King, Xavier said to her privately.
"Kae, be nice," Elaine murmured, nudging her friend. |
Kae flailed almost as much as Tony did. "Okay, okay, I'm behaving!"
Tony snickered at her. |
Elaine jumped slightly when Kae flailed.
"What just happened?" she asked. "Just a minor demonstration," Xavier said pleasantly. |
"Minor demonstration," Kae grumbled. But she had relaxed a little bit. "Alright. So how do plan to help me?" She raised her eyebrows at Xavier.
|
"With your permission, I would like to take a look at your memories and see if I can find what triggered your outbursts," Xavier said. "If I can, then I can see about creating a sort of lesson plan for you. One of my students is also a telekinetic, so it is also plausible that she can tutor you instead."
|
"Okay." Kae glanced at Bruce and Tony for support. Tony nodded, just a little, and she bit her lower lip briefly. "Alright. Anything I need to do to let you poke around in my head? Any special Vulcan mind-meld thing?"
Tony snickered. |
Xavier gave her a bit of a flat look but rolled his wheelchair a bit closer.
"Just relax," he said. "Try not to fight." |
Kae tried to relax, but she did flinch back the first time. "Okay, still weird," she mumbled, though she did manage not to fight him anymore.
|
Xavier looked through the specific memory, making sure not to touch anything else, before he let her go again.
"I think I understand now," he said, settling back in his wheelchair. "And I do believe, Miss King, that you need to make an effort to control your temper from now on, to avoid any more episodes like that." |
"Great, we've got another rage-monster under my roof," Tony grumbled.
Kae flushed but nodded. "Alright. I understand." |
Bruce shifted from foot to foot, a bit uncomfortably, but didn't comment.
"Tony, be nice," Elaine said. It was becoming habit by now. "If you would like, I can set up a meeting with Jean," Xavier offered. "She is the telekinetic student I mentioned. I believe she would be the best one to teach you how to use your new gifts." |
Tony made a face at Elaine but didn't say anything.
"Thank you professor, that would be appreciated." Kae looked at Bruce for a moment. "Hey Bruce you want to share some trade secrets with me?" |
"We can see what will work for you," Bruce said, nodding. There had to be something in his arsenal of calming techniques that would help her.
"Well, then, I think that will be all for today," Xavier said. "Miss King, if you would be so kind as to give me your contact information, I will have Jean speak to you about setting up times to meet." |
"Sure." Kae gave him the necessary information, feeling just the littlest bit overwhelmed. But she made sure she put down all the information for the professor before seeing him out.
And then she went back into the living room area and collapsed on a couch. |
Elaine followed her, sitting down next to her.
"You alright?" she asked softly. |
"I think so," Kae said quietly. "Kind of overwhelmed right now. Should be fine once it all sinks in."
|
Elaine nodded and leaned her shoulder against Kae's for a moment. She grinned a bit.
"Just think," she teased, "you can smack Tony from across the room now." |
Kae laughed quietly. "Don't even need to be close enough to him to hit him," she agreed. "And of course every time I'm upset there'll be exploding glass." She grimaced.
|
Elaine grinned a bit more.
"We'll get you plastic," she promised teasingly. "And miles and miles of bubble wrap." |
Kae snorted, leaning against Elaine. "Bet you anything Tony's going to ban me from the lab," she grumbled. "And possibly bolt down the furniture in my room."
|
"I'm not taking that bet," Elaine said. "I'd end up owing you everything I own."
|
Kae snickered. "See, I knew I had to inherit some smarts." She grinned. "Okay, so, this may have potential for when I'm not exploding things."
