"Only a few." Steve's lips twitched. "Not that he'll notice the difference, I'm sure. He's been too busy making Hulk fish."

Elaine bit her lip, trying not to laugh too hard.

"I shouldn't be surprised," she said. "It's like the classic mad scientist experiment."

Steve paused at that. "Well, I don't know about that, but it is kind of fun to watch. And Tony loves it. I think he's name all the fish, although I don't think he knows which one is which."

Elaine snickered.

"Should be interesting, then," she said. "Especially when he starts setting them off. And it's totally a mad-scientist experiment, genetic meddling is practically cliche at this point in science fiction."

Steve shook his head. "I'll take your word for it," he said quietly. "All I know is Tony is having a lot of fun and Bruce was taking refuge in the gym."

"I don't blame him," Elaine said. She grinned. "Although I'm sure Tony will be missing his sciencebro in the lab soon enough."

"Probably," Steve agreed easily. "But until then, he's quite happy to play with the fish."

Elaine made a vague sound of agreement and stayed close to him. She almost didn't notice when the dance ended.

Steve did, but he didn't let go of her, just waiting for the next song to start up. He made a mental note to go dancing with her again. This was much more fun than he'd expected.

After a few more songs, Elaine tugged Steve over to sit down for a minute. He might be an invincible supersoldier, but she was just normal.

"This is fun," she said as she found a pair of empty seats.

"This is fun," Steve agreed with a smile. "We'll have to do this again sometime." He sat across from her, grinning briefly. "You thirsty?"

"We definitely need to do this again," Elaine agreed, smiling. "I wouldn't mind something to drink."

Steve nodded and stood. "What would you like?"

Elaine had to think about that for a moment.

"Cream soda," she replied. "If not that, then water is just fine."

Steve grinned briefly and nodded, going to get her drink. He returned a few minutes later, placing a cream soda in front of her, and sipping his own root beer.

Elaine smiled and took a sip of the cream soda.

"And you know, we would never have this much fun at a party club," she commented.

"No. I've heard Tony talking about them, and I have no desire whatsoever to visit one." Steve shivered briefly.

Elaine grinned.

"Well, you're in luck," she said. "Because neither do I."

"Good." Steve smiled a little. "This place is nice, though." And polite. The people here were very polite. Steve appreciated that.

"I'm glad you like it," Elaine said. "It just means we need to do this more often." Leaning forward, she gave him a small kiss.

Steve smiled but didn't do anything more, since they were in public. But he did take hold of one of her hands, since that was acceptable.

The next day, Bruce was finally fed up with waiting. So, before Tony could try to drag him into the lab for some sort of Hulkfish experiment, he slipped out of the tower and headed towards where Kae lived.

It only took him a couple of moments to make himself knock on the door.

Kae headed downstairs to answer the door, keeping Bran from running outside by keeping one leg in front of him. She looked at Bruce for a moment silently before she moved aside.

"Can I get you anything to drink, Doc?" Kae shut the door once he was inside, heading into the kitchen. She had the feeling she might need a drink.

"No, thank you," Bruce replied as he pulled a chair over. He watched as she puttered around the kitchen.

Kae poured herself a drink and settled on the couch, helping Bran scramble up to put his head in her lap.

"So what brings you here?" She looked at him evenly over her glass.
